Diner Reviews
  • "If you come from somewhere that has "real" and excellent Mexican restaurants, you can go here without shame. THis is htgge real deal, with many outstanding and unusual dishes you won't find at a glorified taco stand."

  • "I came here with a work colleague for dinner. It was nice. Guacamole and chips, margarita were all excellent, if pricey. My tacos were over salted, and I like a lot of salt. Not sure if the problem was in the meat (I had pork carnitas) or in the salsa they topped it with, but the salt level overwhelmed the other flavors, which was really too bad. I also found the black beans served on the side to be a tiny bit undercooked. In some ways, I wish the kitchen had concentrated more on the basics and worried less about fancy flavor combos and presentation."

  • "I work in the building where the restaurant is located, so I eat there quite a bit. I love the avocado taquitos and the churros with dark chocolate and salted caramel. Could eat that every day!"

  • "Great adult restaurant!! Amazing desserts!! Especially the coconut tres leches!! I like that they were able to accommodate me and remove the spicey sauce from my dish!! The pineapple guacamole was awesome!! Scott treated is very well, he made sure everything turned out great!! Definitely going back when we come back into town!!"

  • "It was our first time at Alma after a referral from a friend who told us they had amazing Mexican and Latin food that would remind us of the Tex-Mex we lode so much when we lived in Austin. Alma did not disappoint! Chef Chad has created some incredibly unique and tasty dishes. Go check them out for sure!"

  • "Went for lunch. Server forgot half of the order, guacamole had tomato stem in it and tamale was very dry with bland flavor in spite of rave server recommendation."

  • "Excellent for downtown Atlanta business lunch. Service and food are very good. Inside is a bit loud for business conversation. Outside lobby/courtyard is great if available - should request when making reservations."

  • "Dinner was fantastic, the drinks were perfect, ah, the food, so good, a taste everyone should try. Our appetizer was the Goat cheese, roasted cauliflower and butternut squash w/ chips, so good... Then my main dish was the Roasted Chicken w/ Mole sauce and grilled green beans and mashed plantains. My husband and I shared a Black bean dish that was delis and spicy. Loved it! Wait staff wonderful and helpful on menu questions."

  • "Took my boss and 4 visitors from Portland, OR to dinner on Friday night. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommend the guacamole and salsa tasting appetizer and the carnitas tacos were delicious. A great downtown restaurant."

  • "we were very tired after long flight so wanted something near our hotel (Ellis). Food was good, but very elaborate... this is not Mexican comfort food. My friend and I shared two different taco dishes. Mine were shrimp with some sort of blueberry and corn salsa. The flavors didn't really work for me. Her were lobster, which were in a lime butter sauce with jicama slaw of some sort, and were very good. Service was fine."

  • "For all the great reviews this place got I thought it was average at best. The service was not really great, our waitress wouldn't recommend anything to me since my husband wasn't at the table at that moment. By the time she returned which was a while, we had chosen our food. The food was ok not great. I had chicken corn tacos. I didn't finish two of the three. My husband had a steak and he didn't finish his either. The atmosphere was the best thing about this place."

  • "This restaurant very well located as it is close to several Atlanta event locations. The environment and quality of food makes it easy to categorize the place as a great choice for Mexican food. What is well done is maintaining the taste in traditional Mexican plates, while injecting a modern touch. Not only does the food do Mexican cuisine great justice, but it also brings a wide variety of good tequilas for those of age. Some plates that are very recommendable are: the Guacamole (fresh and mildly spicy), the Huitlacoche Flautas (table favorite), and the Elotes as a side. We will definitely come back to try some plates we haven't ordered."

  • "Alma Cocina has an indoor patio within a beautiful atrium (it's connected to the Ritz Carlton in downtown Atlanta). Margaritas were great - we tried the Naranjarita, Just Wear Black and the House. Definitely order the Steak and Blue Cheese tacos! This would be a great place for a work cocktail party - especially if they would allow you to reserve the atrium patio area. Sterile decor, but in a good way, if that makes sense. Service was good - our waitress kept an eye on drinks but didn't check back on us relentlessly."

  • "Extensive GF menu which is always nice to find. I'm not talking about just salads either. They cannot guarantee their corn chips b/c they are fried in a multi-use fryer, but otherwise they go out of their way to accomodate. They also have one of the best GF desserts I have had in a long time. . . unfortunately, I can remember the name! Sorry. It was a layered mousse corn cake (in a cup) with Hibiscus sauce and just fantastic. We didn't really have room for it thanks to the guacamole and salsa tasting sampler, but it was definitely worth being extra full. We might go back just for that."

  • "Nestled in a busy downtown area. Alma Cocina is a great change of pace for upscale Mexican food. While our waiter was a little slow on the uptake, he made up for it later in the evening. Try the fried avocado tacos for a different and tasty vegetarian option. Corn tortillas with toasty cotilla cheese and tasily flash-fried avocados topped with cilantro and roasted tomatoes. We also enjoyed the butternut squash guacamole. Margaritas were perfectly done in true top shelf fashion."

  • "While visiting Atlanta on business, I was very impressed with Alma Cocina. The margaritas and food was amazing! Had the spicy shrimp tacos and the guacamole was delicious and spicy too. Will definitely return if I'm back I the area."

  • "My husband and I were in town for an overnight layover and we chose this place due to the great reviews. The service was excellent and the food was so flavorful. Everything was prepared very well and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The drink selection was impressive."

  • "A little more upscale Mexican food. Sea bass ceviche was excellent- good serving size. My friend had the chicken mole-- she loved it and thought the chicken was really tender and juicy even without the mole!"

  • "This restaurant comes up as one of the top Mexican restaurants in Atlanta and we enjoyed everything we ate. Right downtown for event goers - we had the Salsa/Guacamole combo (6 different types) and Pork, Steak and yes Lobster Tacos. Great place for entertaining clients or for a nice date before a game. I would recommend!"

  • "Good food, nicely spiced - had to wait awhile for main courses (though not as long as have at some other places), and waiter and manager both came to apologize for the delay, and then comped the main courses."

  • "Randomly picked the restaurant for lunch and loved it! Food, service, and ambiance were awesome! Price was also very reasonable. I will definitely be back."

  • "We were looking for a last minute reservation for Valentine's Day and didn't want to travel far to get there. I used my OpenTable app on my phone and did a search for restaurants in the area and this one popped up. The food and service was great and we enjoyed the variety of food items to choose from. They even validated my parking which is important in downtown Atlanta where parking is at a premium. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys Latin cuisine."

  • "Food ok, what I call Ameri-mex, not spicy. Couldn't taste the alcohol in the drinks--not sure if there was any in there! Chocolate flan tho was EXCELLENT. Definitely felt like a hotel restaurant. Would only go if staying in the area. Service pleasant, but a bit slow."

  • "We sat for over 10 minutes without any approaching us. Once the waitress did arrive she rushed us out through our meal. The food was good but nothing special."

  • "First time at restaurant. Excellent food - fresh and delicious. Service was exceptional with very attentive waiter helping us through out the evening. Good selection of cocktails and tequilas. Only complaint is that the establishment emptied out rather early. It was Sunday, however, so that might have been the reason. Would highly recommend."

  • "As has come to be expected of Fifth Group Restaurant company, Alma Cocina takes a great space off the double-towered 191 Peachtree lobby in the heart of downtown Atlanta and revs up the expectation of Mexican food for a special evening of complementary liquids and cleverly presented authentic south of the border flavors. It's food that's fun to experience, eat and enjoy. Our booth, tucked into the heart of the "soul kitchen" (Spanish translation of Alma Cocina) restaurant over one enormous metal pot turned light fixture made our birthday celebration, party of four, memorable for all the right reasons."
