Diner Reviews
  • "Beautiful place, great ambiance, outstanding service and the food was just amazing!! Best food in San Diego!!! Highly recommend to everyone."

  • "A new downtown gem. Excellent service, friendly and informative, and the decor matched the attention to detail in this family owned restaurant. Chef created a well balanced menu with several signature dishes. Our meal was excellent. Highly recommend."

  • "We dined here on suggestion of Open Table's review as we were visiting San Diego. The restaurant was not busy as there was only one other couple dining at that time. The server was very personable and friendly, as was the general manager. We appreciated that the chef cam out from the kitchen to visit with us. Although the cuisine was called American, each dish was unique, with different and exotic ingredients, displayed in such a manner that you might want to photograph your dish before partaking. Food was delicious."

  • "Unfortunately, our experience was not as good as other OpenTable diners. The chef has a fine pedigree, and the food was tasty. However, service was lacking. They had a large party and the kitchen had trouble getting other diners' food out in a timely fashion. At first they promised food was coming "soon" but eventually they just stopped talking to us until each course came. Inside is loud with pulsating music. Patio is more pleasant, and good for peoplewatching. While the food was good (the hostess is nice, and the bathrooms are lovely), that was not enough to make us want to return, given all the great places in SD with great food and service. I hope it was an off-night, but no apologies or compensation were offered."

  • "Allure was recommended to us by Josh, the barman at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown, who sang high praises of the chef there. After making a reso, we finished out drinks and walked the few blocks to Allure where we were greeted warmly by the hostess, who gave us the option of sitting either inside our outside. Being from Michigan, we were eager to soak up the beautiful SoCal weather, so we sat outside and had the whole patio to ourselves. Our server, Jinju (sp.?) was knowledgeable, professional, attentive, and friendly, and she even went above and beyond and gave a list of ideas for places to go in San Diego. The food was all good, and the rosemary lamb shank was one of the best dishes I've ever had, no hyperbole. Thanks Allure staff!"

  • "First time was so good, just had to go back, and it did not dissapoint!! It was fantastic! I am hooked and going back Saturday for dinner with friends. Cannot recommend it enough! Chef Melissa has some serious talent. What a gem!"

  • "A great experience for myself and 7 friends. Allure did everything they could to make our evening just right. Cocktails were creative, food was delicious, service was attentive and accommodating to the special dietary needs of our group."

  • "This restaurant offers a very good atmosphere, pretty intimate if you want. The food we ordered was delicious, like everybody stated the tuna tartar is a delight. I went then for the white fish in entrée, and also amazing, perfectly cooked and tasty sauce. The quinoa entrée was also full of flavors, but the best was the chocolate cake at the end..greatly recommend it!"

  • "Wow! The food here hits a home run. Can't wait to come back. The Chef's ability to wake up your taste buds is extraordinary in the way it hits every spectrum in the palate. "

  • "We were in town from Orange County and read the great reviews in Open Table (and Yelp) and decided to give this place a try. Very creative cuisine. We started with the Pork Belly. Amazing. I made a pretty good one myself recently, but theirs was exceptional. My wife and I both had fish dishes and they were both exceptional. "

  • "We went to this restaurant based on it's menu and proximity to the Balboa Theatre. It is a nice, small restaurant that has excellent food. They were able to accomodate me as a vegan, and the other 3 people ordered from the regular menu. The chef came out to say hello which was very nice. I recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. "

  • "We were looking for something new in the Gas Lamp. I believe Allure is only a month old. I knew we were taking a risk, but it was well worth it. The service and food were awesome. Our server, Aaron, was also a foodie and seemed to enjoy our appreciation of the food. We ordered a little bit of everything and it was all excellent. In particular, the lamb shank (fell off the bone), the steelhead, the pork belly (OMG), creamy polenta and the creamed corn (delectable), etc. Also, two drinks that were outstanding: The Allure and San Diego Sun. Will definitely go back again."

  • "My wife and I found Allure through Open Table. We started with an amuse bouche of pork belly on hoisin sauce with a bit of sriracha. Very nice. I had the beef short rib and mixed vegetables. My wife had the lamb shank with polenta. We started with the Kale salad. All of the food was excellent, and wine list is great too."

  • "My new favorite restaurant in San Diego. The menu was novel and well executed. The entire staff was friendly and knowledgable. This is the first place I am going on my next trip to San Diego."

  • "They were very accommodating when we called to say we were running late for our reservation, and from start to finish service was outstanding. Our server was knowledgeable about the dishes and made great recommendations. We shared several small plates--the tuna tartare was a favorite, and we loved the grilled carrot cake dessert. Price point was pretty much right what we expected. I was told there is a cool lounge area upstairs, which I'll have to check out next time. Highly recommended!"

  • "This place is amazing. The food is absoluteley delicious, the fried oysters and pork belly are to die for, the filet melts in you mouth and the chicken with chorizo gravy is my new obsession. Nothing anywhere compares to this place. My compliments to the Chef. Will go back again and again to try the rest of the menu. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was impeccable. This place is the best find ever and a true gem."

  • "Took an out of town visitor to dinner and every aspect was great. Service was personable and engaged (thanks Bree). She made excellent recommendations. Hot and cold appetizers were delicious (I particularly enjoyed the fried oysters), and my wife particularly recommended the kale salad. The white fish is flown in fresh from Michigan / Lake Superior and was prepared simply and deliciously (though is served without accompaniments, so do order either the asparagus or fingerling potatoes)."

  • "After going to the Padres game for Mother's Day we headed over for our dinner reso and the restaurant was very quiet. We were the only table for quite awhile. We started with the oysters that did not have a clean flavor but the condiments with the oysters was excellent. My salmon was cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were too runny. Overall, we had a good dinner."

  • "We went to check out a new place downtown SD vs going to our usual places, and we were so glad we did! We noted the chef worked at some other reputable SD restaurants so our expectations were set high! And the food DELIVERED!! We ordered the tuna tartar...amazing! It had a Mexican twist to it with a little bit of heat and lime juice to bright the dish, very refreshing. For our entrees we had the short ribs and lamb shank. I make both at home and I have prob the most amazing recipe for both...both of these were just as good as mine!! The portions are HUGE, you will not leave hungry! I ended up taking 1/2 of the short ribs home. And also...order the truffle fries..WOW! Can't wait to go back and enjoy some more fantastic food! "

  • "Food was great. Five of us in the party and all of us happy with our appetizers and entrees. As good as any restaurant in the Gaslamp, and a better option than the tired steakhouses that seem to dominate fine dining in the area. It's a good alternative to driving to La Jolla or del Mar where most of the interesting restaurants seem to be in the area. Friendly and attentive service - Chef Michelle came by and asked how everything was! Will definitely return for the short rib entree and the pork belly appetizer."

  • "Allure restaurant is a new restaurant in Downtown but the food is delicious. I have dined there twice and the good both times has been nothing short of phenomenal. Try the tuna tartare and the beef carpaccio as a starter and the Allure cocktail. "

  • "I always read the menu before deciding whether I want to go to a restaurant. On seeing good reviews + pork belly on the menu, I decided I must go. Unfortunately when we went, the restaurant was newly-opened, so the pork belly was not available. Disappointed, but the rest of the food was very good. The oysters, the carpaccio was heavenly. They at first told us they did not have carpaccio as well, but the chef felt really bad that couple items we asked for were unavailable. So she opened up a new tenderloin and made the carpaccio for us, that was really good, I love carpaccio, we ordered another one. Also ordered the chocolate bar as dessert, I was not too fond on that, but it was still good. Will return when they have pork belly."
