AlloroWhat a Gem!!This is a fantastic neighborhood gem. Very intimate and the owners/chef are warm and friendly and make you feel like family the moment you walk in. But the star of the restaurant is the food. Very inventive Italian food that takes the traditional recipes and put a surprising spin on them. But not such a spin that you don't recognize the meal. And the taste is outstanding.
Menu changes seasonally and they have a great list of seasonal cocktails as well.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMallora, Alloro was a big surprise! Here's an Italian chef who is creating different and delicious Italian food with a twist. The red sauce was delicious. I had an the 3.5" round of eggplant parmigiana with red sauce spread on top and over the sides; on the same place was a slight mousse of goat, maybe burrata (?) cheese , looking solid, but not, and next to that a small "cigarro" of eggplant puree dipped in nuts(?) and fried, which you dip in the mousse. Yum. Everyone else seemed to order that, too. I licked my plate.
I also had the black mushroom risotto...outstanding. My husband had the delicious and colorful tomato salad with fruits various, melons, et. al. and a simple spaghetti with spices and oil. We will definitely put Alloro on our NY list for our next visit!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time that we have eatenSecond time that we have eaten at Alloro. Both times very good food.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatGreat for those who aren't able to have gulten. They are knowledgeable and well trained in dinning and food. They go out of their way to accommodate your needs.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMUES Great ItalianOutstanding food and service. Server and chef were welcoming to adjusting items to meet dietary requirements. Food was delicious and service was top-notch.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AM4 1/2I wish I could rate Alloro at Excellent (or 4 1/2 ) stars as, while maybe not quite outstanding, it's better than very good. Had the traditional/revisited eggplant parmegian appetizer and veal ragu w/fettuccine entree--both excellent. Have been to Alloro 3 times in past year and it's very consistent. Service also was excellent.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMa gemInviting and unpretentious, Alloro is a culinary gem hidden in a seemingly ordinary guise. It was really lovely to gaze out at the street on a sunny day, with trees embanking the couple of outside tables.Food is beyond expectation. The chef mixes flavors together in magical ways. Presentation is precious as well. The salads were huge, the entrees small, but that's best anyway. Probably because it was Mothers' Day, it didn't rate 5 stars, since the service was inconsistent. However, speaking for each of us at the table, we will definitely come again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRefined flavorsAlloro has a unique take on Italian food. Often 'unique' can mean weird and disappointing but in this case it's a compliment. Very refined and thoughtful flavor combinations make it a special place that should be better known.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't dine here if you wantDon't dine here if you want the same old Italian cuisine. Love the chef creativity, Italian with panache!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA real gemWhat a find, has been around the corner but unaware of it.. Just superb5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood preparation, qualityFood preparation, quality and presentation are outstanding. Service is attentive and friendly. You feel at home when dining at Alloro.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful neighbourhood gemSuperb food in a quiet assuming neighbourhood setting. Wonderful service too, warm, knowledgeable and unpretentious. For those who can't stand the preening cacophony of so many UES Italians, you will cherish this find!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect in Every Way !The new Spring menu at Alloro is outstanding. Very inventive, intriguing (makes it hard to decide)and there is something for everyone. We had a picky eater in our group and he had difficulty deciding on his entree. The service team at Alloro is exceptional as well. They work seamlessly together, are very welcoming and client focused, and are very attentive. Alloro is one of those restaurants that works no matter what - celebration, quiet intimate meal, looking for a special food experience, etc. Our favorite reason to be on the UES (up from Chelsea) is Alloro. Excellent !!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, great service,Delicious food, great service, very small dining-room so it is a little bit loud. We were celebrating our daughter and her fiance's engagement. Our waiter brought us limoncello after the meal, which was a lovely gesture.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery creative food, but notVery creative food, but not weird. Staff could not be nicer. A terrific UES find. Highly recommended.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood findAmazing, thoughtful, inventive take on Italian cuisine.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent spot!Great Italian food with excellent, friendly service. A great little restaurant with authentic Italian food.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a surprise! We had neverWhat a surprise! We had never been to this neighborhood restaurant but had heard great things about it and were they ever right! Amazing food and attentive service. We will definitely go back.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEveryone loved the food -Everyone loved the food - seafood is exceptional, pastas heavenly, and everything fresh and creative.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the ingredients are greatAll the ingredients are great quality - from the olives, which were not in oil and were the best-tasting I have had, to the home-made pastas, and the monk fish which sounded very simple was outstanding. The owner is a huge presence and really cares that you're everything is to your liking. He is really sweet and genuine - we have not had this kind of personal service often. A great intimate neighborhood restaurant even when you're coming from out of the neighborhood as we did! We will be back.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHadn't been back in quiteHadn't been back in quite a while and very glad to have returned. The four of us took advantage of their 4 for $40 menu and nobody left anything on any plate. Just delicious. Of course 2 bottles of $75 wine threw off the "reasonable dinner" but the wine was also great. Will certainly return but will have to be more judicious in choosing wine when ordering off the regular menu (which looked a tad steep). Gina and Salvatore are great hosts and the glass of Lemoncello at the end was a welcome treat.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only reason the food didn'tThe only reason the food didn't get 5 stars was dessert, whose menu was disappointing enough to prevent me from ordering (something truly rare). Otherwise, the food was superb and the service was even better (if at all possible).3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThree for three--all 3 coursesThree for three--all 3 courses were excellent. Imaginativee cauliflower soup, scrumptiious chicken, and marvelous sorbet.1/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
