Diner Reviews
  • "We've eaten at Allium for years, but the current menu is the best yet. The cocktails too."

  • "When we first looked at the menu, we (being food conservatives) were a little puzzled by a few of the food combinations, some of which included foods unfamiliar to us. But we plunged in and were absolutely delighted. Everything was beautifully fresh and flavorful, and served in generous portions. The star of the meal, though, was the wickedly rich chocolate hazelnut budino with olive oil and sea salt. Now we can die happy."

  • "After booking here we found out from Max, the restaurant manager at The Old Inn on the Green (fantastic B&B and restaurant) that he had eaten at Allium the night before. He recommended their small plates of Roasted Hen-of-the-Woods Mushrooms and also their bone marrow. Both were wonderful and my husband and I raved about the mushrooms. The bone marrow had to be scooped out with a spoon and spread on freshly grilled homemade bread. We had the clams and mussels which had a nice kick to it, and Korean short ribs. Total of 6 small plates between the two of us and we were hungry so polished off everything. Interesting cocktails, attentive service and restaurant was modern with clean lines. A wonderful surprise and we will definitely be back!"

  • "Wonderful place! Great varied menu selections for a vegetarian. Plan on returning often."

  • "The sprawling menu gave us pause, as often unfocused cuisine tends to be subpar. Somehow they pull it off. Our dinner by way of France, Mexico, Thailand, and Texas was outstanding. Don't skip dessert. The chocolate Budino hits all notes of what a chocolate dessert should be."

  • "The chef is obviously creative, the server, Huck, is wonderful. The bartender is slower than s---"

  • "We love Allium! We've tried several of the small plates and entrees and love the variety and the combination of textures and flavors. The salads are particularly creative. We are never disappointed."

  • "Delicious food, great wine, lovely service, those tacos are the best!!!"

  • "Great Barrington gem... Tomato fennel soup not to be missed with their homemade curry paste. If you love vegetables there is no shortage and their farro salad with pears slices is tremendous."

  • "Really delicious and friendly. I want to stress 'friendly' because we boycotted this place for years because of some serious attitude at the door one night. We don't know if there is a new owner but everyone working here is now warm, knowledgable and welcoming. And the food is inventive and oh so good. We'll be back."

  • "From the moment we walked in to confirm our later reservation, until the very end of our evening. ..The service was absolutely horrendous! I even tried mentioning that we were OpenTable participants but that did absolutely nothing at all. We ended up having to have one of the managers take over and even with her apologies unfortunately she failed as well. The food was fine. However it was certainly overpriced. I don't really understand all the fuss about the ambience.... It's very pub-like. We went for our anniversary celebration, and again there was absolutely no care about that from them. If I were you, I would avoid this place, unless you're going for drinks and have all the time in the world."

  • "My husband and I ate at Allium for the first time in December and our only regret was that we had not tried it before. We enjoyed having a variety of small plates to share, getting an opportunity to taste different things on the menu . The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The waitress was so helpful, describing each dish and giving us guidance on a wine that would go with the various dishes we ordered. The restaurant was a little noisy but that won't stop us from coming back."

  • "The best burger ever! Chocolate budino for dessert was delicious."

  • "A real gem in The Berkshires. We split the fish tacos and the Daire burger and both were fantastic. And our reference point is Manhattan restaurants."

  • "We ate at Allium for the first time last saturday to celebrate a birthday and it was wonderful! There were lots of choices of small plates and with so many things sounding interesting, that allowed us to try several different dishes. By the time we got to the entrees, we were getting pretty full, so we've been enjoying the leftovers. We did not have to prompt our waitress to box it up, she offered before we had a chance to ask. They have taken local food to heart and had a wonderful variety of farms supplying product listed on the menu. We don't eat out very much but we are looking forward to coming up with a reason to return!"

  • "The menu names the local farms where the food has come from and the chef creates interesting choices from seasonal produce. I had a tasty kale salad with pecorino and apples, my husband's chicken came with a carrot risotto that was creamy and warm on a cold night. We shared a salted caramel and chocolate sundae that was delicious. The restaurant is on the noisy side with bare wood floors and wooden chairs. The night we were there it was full and very loud."

  • "The staff was wonderful and the food delicious. I tried for a few weeks to get a later table but couldn't get one. We settled on 6 pm. Plan ahead."

  • "Allium has a new chef since some point around 2012. She had been a private chef and, though we dont care, there's a reason for it we learned. The food is insanely good. It was fresh and some organic. Just tremendous. It's a few steps up from burgers, but the burger we shared was one of the best ever-- tremendous. A pasta was just as good. Dessert was inventive and great as well."

  • "salted caramel popcorn sundae? Yes,I'm beginning with the ending! After a crispy fish taco for a quick bite, before an artist's reception,I had to try the most unusual choice from the dessert menu.It was a delightful surprise in your mouth!A small scoop of chocolate&coffee ice cream with a handful of lightly salted popcorn for crunch&drizzled sauce.Fun!!!!"

  • "Where to start? We chose Allium for an early pre-theater dinner based on other OpenTable reviews, and have determined that either the reviewers have low expectations, or the restaurant turned upside down in a few short days. It started to go south when the hostess seated us, their first dinner customers that night, near the kitchen in a large, empty room, rather than at any of the tables up front near the open windows, where we could enjoy the ambiance of beautiful weather and pedestrian activity. Then we were treated to slow, indifferent service and bland, tepid food. No wonder the burger joint across the street was full!"
