Diner Reviews
  • "Fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared food. We had both the Wild Stripped Bass and Alaskan Halibut for main dishes, moist, wonderful preparation, & perfectly cooked. Starters of Cheese Lavoch (interesting presentation) and Cut Fries with Smoked Paprika Aioli, were both different and yummy. The Grilled Asparagus with Meyer Lemon Gremolata, was very good. There was only thing we did not like, it was Allium Green Salad.... found it bitter. We went to celebrate 2 birthdays with good friends and they were each served a piece of dark chocolate cake on chocolate decorated plates, soooo good! We'll be back."

  • "Service was great. Food is great. Try the Brussels sprouts even if you usually hate them. Mai butterscotch shake is also a standout."

  • "Disappointing ! What started as a new and original culinary endeavor is now a common nice ambience place with mediocre food that is WAY TOO SALTY"

  • "My boyfriend's kids wants to take him to "a fancy restaurant" for his birthday. I was nervous because most of the nice restaurants we generally go to are not kid friendly. One of my friends suggested Allium as a nice, kid-friendly choice. Our server (female, red short hair) was fantastic. She was great with the kids. There was a kids menu so everyone was happy. The main menu had tons of great options as well. We really enjoyed ourselves!"

  • "We recently discovered that Allium had replaced the more formal dining room at The Four Seasons, providing creative and high quality bar food, and we like it enough to revisit often. The Cheese Lavosh was fabulous, totally worth the $5 charge. My husband enjoyed the Heirloom Tomato salad and I the Brussels Sprouts (a huge portion) for starters, and the Wild Striped Bass and the Our Burger as mains. There were lots of other things that looked really good. We didn't need to order as much as we did, but enjoyed tasting it all."

  • "One of the best in Chicago. Creative, tasty, uniquely prepared good basic food."

  • "Beautiful setting with superb service and good food --- small amounts for brunch -- not worth the price."

  • "beautiful restaurant with a really nice, active, comfortable bar. would be great to meet someone here for a drink and small bite (the cheese lavosh is presented beautifully). the mixed drinks were hit-or-miss with the barrel aged manhattan being particularly disappointing while the corpse reviver scored well. the food was good, not outstanding, and for this reason it's just not worth the price for dinner. the service was good, though the dinner was very slowly paced. almost 3 hours for a party of 8."

  • "My husband and I have been to Allium several times for brunch, and it is always fabulous. It is our go to special occasion spot!"

  • "The elegance of the atmosphere made the fun food offering even more enjoyable. When we walked in we were expecting all show and go, it was just the opposite. The white asparagus gazpacho was amazing, don't go there without having the Lavosh, just plain fun."

  • "A surprisingly limited menu. Excellent service, convenient to Talbott Hotel. Food uninspiring. Frankly, because I HAD to pick one factor to recommend to others, I picked brunch, however I have no idea if they have one. Now the bar adjoining Allium? There's your AMBIANCE, your romance, and special memory maker!"

  • "This was my second visit to Allium and definitely won't be my last. The food and service combined with an ever-changing menu is stellar. When traveling I like to try new restaurants but Allium will become a regular stop for me."

  • "Had brunch with the family. Of course it is VERY expensive. But the meal was awesome. First was mimosa, then some pecan muffin for all of us. It was excellent. The tower of food that you share has crab legs, shrimp, oysters, peas, strawberries, salmon--really I can't remember it all, but it was awesome. Next was main course. I had eggs benedict with home made corned beef hash, so did my sons. Wife has eggs with assorted sausages and cheese. Finally, the dessert table. It was overwhelmingly good. We were stuffed and didn't really eat the rest of the day!"

  • "Great for lunch. Try their special "Chicago Hot Dog." The sausage hot dog is house made and utterly fantastic. Comes with homemade fries and three little tubes of catsup, mustard and relish. Other sides include red onions, sport peppers and grape tomatoes. A lovely uptown hot dog. View by the window is lovely and the table for two is huge. Plenty of room for all of your food and drinks."

  • "I went to dinner on a Friday night. Had made reservations and we were seated promptly. The food was great. Our issue came up when the bill arrived as I had received a gift card from my husband via email so it was an electronic gift card. Even though I had the gift card on my smart phone, complete with the card number, the amount and the scan given by Four Seasons, it took close to 25 minutes for them to figure out how to ring us out. To add to my displeasure, although the manager said we had a balance remaining on the card, it was no longer on it when I logged into my four seasons account where gift cards are "managed" -- the manager had taken the full amount of the gift card so I basically overpaid for the meal."

  • "What a shame as this place really has potential. The food was just ok, if that, two or our orders were wrong, my lemon drop martini tasted like someone didn't know how to make a lemon drop martini and our waiter seemed irritated from the start. Overall, very disappointing."

  • "Allium is a wonderful restaurant featuring highly attentive service, a lovely setting and beautifully prepared delicious food. The service is impeccable and unobtrusive. The available wines by the glass are thoughtfully selected and represents a wide range from around the world. The food is sensational. The unique menu features an interesting take on main courses. The shrimp risotto is rich and delicious. The hamburger is served with a fried egg and crispy onions and is fabulous. The brussels sprouts with bacon are amazing. But the cheese crisp is incredible. Skip the rolls and order this cheese crisp. Desserts are as delicious as they are stunning. Highly recommend Allium."

  • "The food, beer, service and ART were all incredible. We had no idea this restaurant even existed, but we will certainly be back. And it wasn't outrageously priced by any means."

  • "Visited Allium when in town for conference. Not easy to find as it is hiding in the back of the 6th floor lobby of the Four Seans Hotel (no walking by...). Our waitress was wonderful, knowledgable, curteous and fun. Food was delucious and for a Dallasite very reasonably priced and sized. The summer squash soup was silky, light and creamy, without cream. The strip steak with cheesy fries and Demi was cooked to point and wonderfully seasoned. I sopped up every last crumb. And talking about crumbs: the cheese lavosh is dangling from a hook and fun to share. Already pretty full but desiring just a small sweet bite to finish up? Just order a single scoop of their fantastic sorbets or ice cream. Well worth the search!"

  • "Despite having a table near a serving space, the ambience and setting were really nice for our dinner. We ordered multiple small courses and our second set was ultimately forgotten because they brought out the dessert menu before we received them. They refreshed our drink order without asking when this happened. Food was creative and very good. First time I've had unfurled fern fronds in a dish!"

  • "Put Allium on your list if you're the kind of person who orders from a CSA, hits farmers markets, and read "Omnivore's Dilemma", "Eating Animals", and saw films like "Food, Inc." and "Forks Over Knives". If you have, you know it's hard to find locally sourced foods served in creative ways. The menu shows where all the menu's ingredients are sourced and we found so many treats it took us extra long to order, because it all sounded so good. We particularly recommend the chorizo bites, sliders, and that evening's soup, a creamy asparagus soup that knocked our socks off!"

  • "I've had dinner at Allium but was too full for the "All In" dessert so we went back just for dessert. It was fabulous."

  • "Staff was perfect, came to attend to us at the perfect times, perfect balance between overwhelming and no attention. Food was great, had the chicken and polenta. All in for the cookies on dessert was also a good choice. Caramel pretzels were fantastic. Cocktails were great also. "

  • "We went for a lighter mean after a reception. Had the wild mushroom flatbread and risotto. Both were fantastic. For desert we had brownie bites and house made pistachio ice cream. Yummy. Great service and beautiful dining room. "

  • "I arranged a birthday lunch for a good friend -- there were 5 of us -- at Allium on the recommendation of a friend. We were delighted with all aspects of the restaurant with the exception of it being somewhat noisy due to the hard surfaces. The restaurant, without being asked, prepared a special dessert for the "birthday girl", and the food was elegantly presented and delicious."

  • "My husband and his friends are on the search for the best burger in Chicago, and Allium was a spot on their list to try. We all ordered the burgers (which will be surprising once you see this place; I mean, it IS in the Four Seasons...), and it was seriously incredible. It is not the hippest scene, but the ambiance is cozy and has some old school charm. Worth a visit."

  • "I'm not a fan of hotel brunches, and especially not brunch buffets. If I'm going to spend the money, I want to be served at the table. And hotel restaurants tend to be overpriced in any event. So I was skeptical when my wife insisted on taking our visiting in-laws here for brunch. It turned out to be a great idea - though pricey, the food was fantastic, the shared small plates were served at the table (no buffet!), and I didn't mind the one buffet trip for the desserts. Worth the high price."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation, and so we asked to be seated at the bar, where we each ordered the bacon hard-boiled egg appetizer, which was delicious. When our table was ready, we were seated in the ornate dining room. My husband thought the decor was a bit over the top, but we both loved the food. I had the sliders with horseradish sauce--they were amazing!"
