  • "We chose Alligator Soul by reading reviews and were not disappointed. From the moment we were greeted by the hostess we knew this would be a great experience. The menu is very different, serving kangaroo, alligator and buffalo. I am not that adventurous so decided on fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits. Both were phenomenal and beautifully presented. Our server, Emily! Was attentive and superb. This restaurant is not to be missed."

  • "I've experienced a few fine dining restaurants and Alligator Soul is near the top. Noise was a bit high but can be forgiven due to a massive but well handled birthday party. Service was still great despite the amount of people they had to handle. Ambiance was nice but not what I expected. Still a comfortable and elegant atmosphere none the less. Food was spot on and felt well worth the price and the drinks were a well mixed addition. If I could afford it I'd definitely return more often."

  • "We enjoyed our experience at Alligator Soul with outstanding food and unbelievable service. At first, the waiter was unable to get to our table but the owner and or manager rushed over to our table and give us free drinks and made sure our night was special. The little things that you do for people do matter and bravo to this guy. We tried the chefs specials and every bite was memorable. The atmosphere was also warm with brick walls and jazzy theme. I would highly recommend this place to eat. Outstanding"

  • "It was a perfect evening dinning with my 2 daughters. It was our first visit and the staff was exceptional. They were so good at giving us suggestion and recommending new food that was so delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The menu had great choices with unique and delightfully prepared dishes. We enjoyed every minute of our dinning experience. I look forward to coming back next time we are in Savannah."

  • "Fairly meat-centric menu. The single vegetarian option came up short, basically broth with three tiny corn bread balls in it. The corn bread balls were sweet for my palate, so I requested more of the ciabatta from the bread basket, which I thought was brilliant, and in this way did not finish my broth feeling hungry. A dinner entree should constitute at least 400 calories, imo. My sense is that they would have bent over backwards to accommodate me, but I did not want the dinner to be all about my entree -- it simply was not the most important thing. Meanwhile, the salad and dessert were excellent, and we enjoyed the cocktails and beer, nice selection. My husband was very happy with his meat entree."

  • "We were visiting Savannah with friends and could not have had a better night - the food was spectacular and our server - Rachel was awesome! Special appetizer and all of our meals were done to perfection. Everyone must absolutely try their "croutons" they are the best we have ever had!"

  • "We had a 745 reservation and we were sat promptly but we only saw our server twice. We didn't get our food till 9:30 and the restaurant was not busy for that kind of turn around. The table next to us had equal problems and when they asked to speak to the manager and explain the time it took to receive the food and the quality of the food he responded to them with, How is this my problem and then took a meal off the couples check and sort of tossed the check back at them. We were very disappointed to say the least."

  • "Solid bar- had a very good cocktail, while waiting for our table. The apps were very good. We had the oysters- excellent, loved the hot sauce. We also had the house made alligator sausage, which was interesting and good. Our last app was scrimp and grits which was a good representation of the dish. The scrimp were very fresh and cooked perfectly. For the main course we had the fish of the day- Sword fish steak. This was also cooked perfectly. All in all a very good, solid dinner in Savannah. Oysters were the highlight here."

  • "The service was "meh". Our server was kind of mousy and just seemed terrified the whole time. Didn't make it a fun event. Also when we ordered a nice bottle of wine, she said "Are you sure you don't want to see the cocktail menu??" Nope. haha The food was pretty good."

  • "This was my favorite spot we ate at in Savannah. The drinks were amazing! I had a peach sangria and my friend had a mojito but instead of mint it had basil. Loved it! The food we got was spectacular! Would definitely go back if I'm ever in Savannah. Our server was so attentive and made the experience even better"

  • "Alligator Soul is a cozy little underground treasure. The ambiance and decor were great with exposed brick walls, neat little subterranean gardens and great music. Our server greeted us warmly and asked about food allergies or restrictions, which we very much appreciated, since my husband and I are both lactose intolerant, which is challenging in the low country. Additionally, I'm pescetarian. No problems at all here. Our server brought out a refreshing amuse-bouche (compliments of the chef) that not only met our dietary weirdness, but was delicious! Future guests must get the house salad; it's amazing."

  • "Great atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised at how well they had done a basement space. The menu is adventurous, and although it is a meat lover's paradise there are many great choices if that's not your thing. What really made the experience was the excellent service. Our server, Adam, was knowledgeable, helpful, patient with all of our questions and went out of his way to accommodate my wife's gluten issue. The bartender, Andrew, is an artist and makes a great mint julep. What made this a particularly enjoyable experience was that we had visited one of Savannah's better known and frequently recommended restaurants the night before - Alligator Soul made them look shabby and boring by comparison."

  • "Starting with Olivia calling to confirm our reservation, we had a wonderful experience. The menu was an adventure, with a number of exotic dinners and sides. We had Oysters a la Soul and a salad, both were excellent, loved the oysters. Didn't try anything exotic - got shrimp and grits and the Little Hilbo tenderloin. Shrimp and grits were very flavorful, a bit rich. The steak had a lot of seasoning; the natural flavor of the meat got somewhat lost, but I still enjoyed it (and it was huge). Key lime pie was simply delicious. The staff was great - friendly, attentive. By the time we finished, six different servers had stopped at our table with something. A classic historic Savannah space in a basement. Great feel to it."

  • "As visitors to Savannah, we were seeking local specialties. I was happy with an oyster appetizer and the shrimp and grits. The service was good but a little uneven; the pacing was somewhat off. Our apps came out very quickly -- even before the wine we had ordered to drink with the apps had arrived. We waited for about 15 mins after the meal was cleared for him to return to ask if we wanted dessert. When he finally came by, he said he assumed we were full and needed extra time before considering dessert (?). We found this odd."

  • "The menu is very interesting, allowing you to add oysters on the half shell, an alligator sausage, etc. to your entrée. I had their house salad - very fresh with amazing warm grit croutons. I had the fish special of striped sea bass w/ fava beans & parmesan polenta. My bf had the pork entrée, with potatoes and fava beans - all delicious! The cocktail menu is very fresh, organic. Extensive wine list as well. Did not have desert, but the table next to us did and it all looked very good. Only small complaint would be that our waiter disappeared toward the end, I think he had a large part come in. However, the hostess attended to us right away to get our bill. Very cool ambience! Underground, no view or outdoor seating."

  • "This was our third year visiting Savannah and each time we try a different fine dining restaurant. After researching we selected Alligator Soul and were not disappointed. From the oyster appetizer to the mojito sorbet....words cannot express! Also had a twist on the traditional mojito with pear and basil...to die for. My husband added the alligator sausage to his entree and it was out of this world."

  • "What can be said, exceeded expectations for a romantic dinner filled with wonderful food and spirit. Atmosphere, decor' all were amazing. Our Inn Keeper at the East Bay made a call and let them know we were coming for our anniversary, all of the service at the Alligator Sould made it wonderful by wishing a Happy Anniversary. Amazing is an understatement"

  • "We arrived 30 minutes late for our reservation which was totally our fault. However when we arrived we were told we were 30 minutes late and we could have a seat at the bar. I understand the difficulties this might cause but if felt like it could have been handled with a bit more tact than a scolding. Our food was great and our server (Emily?) and the others were wonderful and quickly made up for the initial experience. Then something odd happened. A fellow patron who was sitting on the other side of the restaurant approached our table to inform us that our language was inappropriate and hurt his dining experience. It was extremely rude. Again the wait staff asked if everything was okay and made up for a very weird moment."

The staff are all very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous...truly make you feel welcome as well."

  • "The waiter had lost his voice that afternoon, it was difficult to hear the specials and anything else he said. There was an exceptionally long time between ordering and receiving the appetizer and an even longer time before the mains showed up. They were busy but it wasn't that big a restaurant and they had plenty of staff working so perhaps the kitchen was short staffed. But with all the excellent options in Savannah, I doubt that I would ever return here."

My husband tried kangaroo and I had the lamb. The ambience was dark,cozy and quaint. Perfect for a special evening! We will definitely go back and highly recommend it!"

  • "Warm welcome, everything was prepared as requested per the reservation. Energetic staff, with proper grace matching the demeanor of the each guest. The menu was well described and elaborated upon well by the wait staff. The offerings were unique and well balanced with flavoring, presentation was good. The noise level continued to build during the evening but not unbearable. Even though there is limited seating, at no time did we feel rushed by the staff. A wonderful, memorable evening. We would return without question."

  • "We went here for our anniversary, everything was good but they knew it was a romantic night, our table was in the middle of the room, people going by on either side of our table, our table was wide so we were sitting very far away from each other, I told the hostess when she seated us that I did not like the location and she said it was the best table to be at, in the middle of everything. Other then That, the service was unreal, felt like the queen, food was spectacular and they had a sweet little gift on our table for us!"

  • "We had one meal in Savannah and decided to eat here. Boy, what a great decision. Rebecca, our server, was the best. We had the shrimp & grits, the salad with the killer croutons, the scallops with the lavender infused rice (who does that?) and stellar cocktails. Can't wait to go back. We tried to get Rebecca to just let us get a taste ofeach item on the menu, but that wasn't going to happen. It will be tough to decide whether to order the same thing or try something new."

  • "went to savannah for st pattys day with a couple other F&B guys, a chef where i work suggested we check out alligator soul. everything was amazing. I had a moscow mule with some of their ginger beer, but I normally don't write reviews but their Hilbo ribeye is next F'n level I've tried a lot of really good cuts of meat around town but the Hilbo will live forever in infamy . Wish I remembered our servers name he was perfect. We had a bunch off apps and their crutons are a nice personal touch. But the Hilbo ribeye is the headline here"

  • "We chose Alligator Soul to celebrate my birthday. I was really excited because I have heard some great things about the food and ambiance. After the meal I couldn't help but feel disappointed, maybe that is in part because I was expecting more. It's not that anything stood out as terrible but nothing blew me away either. It is hard to justify spending $30 per plate, plus $10 drinks, plus $15 apps for just good food and service. What did stand out on the menu were the Moscow Mules and oysters and what fell short for me was the duck."

  • "A Savannah "must"! Love the farm to table concept. Oysters on the half shell is also a must even if you are not normally a fan. These are like no other. Moonshine Flight is an awesome way to sample several without over kill and stumbling out. A great wine selection and choice of local beers. Our meals were fantastic... I had the St. Patty's Special with Elk Sheppard's Pie... A rare opportunity I was NOT going to pass and my dining partner chose the rib eye... Amazing! And of course, coffee and dessert was just as stellar. Alligator Sole made our trip to Savannah!"
