  • "All natural, organic, farm fresh from local growers, fresh fish, wonderful meat...& surprises for those who want to experience the exotic. We were blown away by the appetizers... Oysters & shrimp & grits, salads, entrees of fresh fish. & a huge mouth-watering ribeye with a special rub. The seasonings, sauces, etc are so flavorful, you'll find yourself humming with pleasure. Meghan was an exceptional waitress & enhanced our dining experience. We were gratified to be able to meet the chef & compliment him & his staff. We'll look forward to dining here again on a return visit to Savannah!"

  • "My girlfriend and I took a recent vacation to Savannah for four days. We like to experience a city by visiting as many local bars and restaurants as we can. We had read about Alligator Soul, but did not actually plan on eating at the restaurant until we had a glowing review from a town local. We tried The Old Pink House and Local 11ten both of the previous nights. While both of those restaurants were very good, Alligator Soul won hands down. The food was excellent, by far the best we had in Savannah. Ambience was quiet and cozy. We both love the basement level restaurant feel, there's just something about it that makes you feel comfortable. The service was great and friendly. For locals and visitors alike, this restaurant is a must."

  • "We spent the evening here for our 12th wedding anniversary! Before even arriving we felt welcome. We received emails and phone calls before our visit from the restaurant staff. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive! We will definitely spread the word about our amazing experience!"

  • "We were seated promptly and greeted by our server. The food was good, not great but good. Well prepared and as described. However the restaurant had a bit of a "factory" feel to it as both out appetizers and main course were delivered to our table within minutes of ordering. (we also never order our entree until after eating our appetizer to avoid the too fast problem). Hoping for a leisurely and romantic evening over a bottle of wine we never got past a first drink, had no chance to digest our appetizer before the main course appeared, could not finish our main course and were finished within 1 hour of arriving. Overall a bad experience"

  • "The food was great, service was excellent but conversation was difficult due to the high noise level. We had a difficult time hearing our waiter and each other. Overall a 4 star but would be a 5 with less noise."

  • "Food is excellent, but our particular server made it seem like we were beneath him. Other staff was quite good. Table next to ours had some foul mouthed patrons"

  • "Anniversary celebration! Received congrats from all the staff . We like exotic meat....alligator sausauge special, elk tenderloin exceptionally flavorful. Scallop entree tasty, but small portion. A dessert gift box was an extra treat. Will definitely return on our next trip to Savannah."

  • "The best shrimp and grits in America and an outstanding charcuterie plate. Treat yourself to some Soul!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Alligator Soul Saturday night. Our waiter was attentive and gave us several helpful suggestions. There are three sizes of the shrimp and grits which I would advise anyone going to try. They were the best we had all week. The ribeye with the duck fat fries were also a big hit at our table. I would highly suggest giving Alligator Soul a try next time you're in Savannah."

  • " What a great experience! Not only was the food terrific, the service and atmosphere were outstanding. The steak was superb. The menu was very interesting and would meet any palette. Alligator Soul will be on my "to do" list when I return to Savannah."

  • "Went here for a meal with friends while visiting Savannah on a quick weekend trip. The food was wonderful. The waitstaff was superb. They went above and beyond to make any accommodations as well as assist us during our meal. The elk was amazing, the oyster appetizer was one of the best we have ever had, all of our meals were delicious. We went to the Olde Pink House the next night and all in our group voted that Alligator Soul was by far our favorite."

  • "Service and food were both excellent. The menu offers different twists on what you would expect when ordering. The charcuterie was an assemblage of bratwurst, pork belly and a liver mousse, not your typical sliced cured meats. Each menu item was well executed and perfectly seasoned. We also enjoyed a very nice Caymus, select cab, 40th anniversary edition that was a very pleasant surprise."

  • "Not what I expected from a restaurant like this. I was shocked to find a roach in my drink and spent the rest of the evening wondering where it came from: the glass, the ice or the booze. That was a little off-putting. The beer menu was not very good. My husband likes an amber beer and they had 2 to choose from, neither of which he especially liked. The food was delicious, however. We tried the alligator boudin, the bison and the elk. To finish the meal, we shared The Millionaire. I am not a coffee drinker, but that drink was fabulous. Our waitress was nice. I was a little irritated that literally every few minutes someone was at the table, so it was difficult for us to have a conversation. Overall, I would not revisit this restaurant."

  • "SAlligator Soul was FABULOUS! The food was amazing!! My husband and I enjoyed the Oyster A LA Soul. So, so good! From the soup to the Soul Creole to my husband 16oz Ribeye....YUMMY is all I can say. This place was a find for us. We loved the ambience, the service and the food. We will definitely go again on our next visit. We will also make sure we try some of the exotic fare on our next visit to Savannah. We absolutely loved the entire experience."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary here. The staff was very attentive and professional. We ordered the boidan sausage and oysters. Very good! We had the creole and kangaroo entres. Creole wasn't anything exceptional but still very good. The kangaroo was well prepared and tasty. I would recommend this place. I would like to go back because I want to try more items on the menu!"

  • "We made reservation for our 40th anniversary. I had the rib eye and it was perfect. My wife even enjoyed my steak. The fries cooked duck fat were almost as good as the steak. I had to almost fight my wife for them. She had the kangaroo too much spice. Her comment it taste like Chinese five spice. She said she still has not tasted kangaroo. The special gift of a bottle wine for our anniversary was the special. I am diabetic the special order of a bowl of slice fruit was nice and pleasant. My wife had the chocolate cake parfait, it was 8 out of 10."

  • "The oyster appetizer was really good, but dinner was just okay. Dessert was a real let down. The food is good, but not great and the prices are pretty steep for what you get. I will try other places around town before I go back to Alligator Soul."

  • "This basement restaurant was a very mixed experience. Arriving late for our reservation, the hostesses seemed annoyed. The restaurant was about half-full... so it didn't seem like that big a deal. They seated us at a table that was at the intersection of a hallway and a door to the main dining room. It became clear that the table was in a very high traffic area with many servers trying to squeeze past each other. They frequently hit our table while doing this and had a hard time navigating the area. When I asked to be re-seated, the (different) person at the host stand responded negatively and mentioned they had "worse tables" that I might have been seated at. They did re-seat us and the food and remaining service were excellent."

  • "Service- Great! The restaurant called to confirm my reservation the day before. A table was ready immediately upon our arrival. The timing/pace of the meal was perfect. Main course did not come out while sitting eating the appetizer. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the meal. Food- Amazing! The best meal we had in Savannah. I wanted to go back the next night, and the next... The beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon was perfecting cooked (medium), juicy, and fully of flavor. The shrimp and grits were rich and buttery. Overall- When I return to Savannah reservations at Alligator Soul will be made."

  • "This is one of our favorite dining spots when traveling through Savannah. Every time has been as memorable as the first. The food is unusual, interesting, and delicious. The service is attentitive to the right degree. We keep going back every time we are in the area and it is always something to look forward to."

  • "Several locals told us to give it a try and we were not disappointed. Upon entering the greeting was very welcoming. The menu offers a wonderful variety. My shrimp & grits was a spicy take on a southern classic and my husbands duck cassoulet was superb. Dave room for dessert the banana beignets are too good to miss. I just wish it was closer to home."

  • "Ate here on a Saturday night w/ my wife & had an excellent mea!. The atmosphere is great, w/ arched bricked walls & soulful murals throughout. The place was rocking this night but we were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our waiter, Adam was excellent, friendly, funny and attentive. We had the fried green tomato appetizer along w/ an alligator sausage link. The tomatoes were great & come in 3 large slices. The sausage was a tab bland for our liking. The entrees of Shrimp & Grits & an etoufee style dish were amazing, as was the warm, soft french bread & great butter. I told them it was our anniversary ahead of time & they had a small box waiting for us w/ a happy Anniv. message & small dessert inside! We loved this place!!"

  • "Everything our table had was wonderful. Although pricy, the portions were generous. Our table had the shrimp and grits, cheese board, gator sausage, Oysters, and Elk exotic special. Everything was divine. One of the best shrimp and grits I've had, the Elk was tender and melts in your mouth and the gator sausage wasn't overly salty like a lot of house-made sausages. Our service was impeccable and our waiter was very personal telling us the history of the building and giving some Savannah suggestions."

  • "The food was unbearably salty and we waited over an hour for the entree after the appetizer. The waitress was very professional but the long wait really ruined the whole experience."

  • "We went here for our anniversary dinner while taking a trip to Savannah. It was a great experience. Fabulous food, locally sourced and ethical foods, ambiance, and service. Wish it wasn't so far from New York or we would go often! Don't hesitate. GO!"

  • "My wife and I recently dined at Alligator Soul with a friend who is a Savannah local. We were celebrating my birthday. We were treated like royalty. Our waiter, Jacob I believe, was fantastic. He was spot on when we needed something and the wine he recommended was a great value. I later realized I did not leave a gratuity worthy of his service. Each in our party raved about their meal. From the bar service to the appetizer, to the wine and dessert, it was all a 10. I highly recommend this charming restaurant if you are visiting Savannah."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, wonderful and knowledgeable service. We started with the oysters (AMAZING) and cheese plate - very good. For our entrees the DH had the Little Hilbo (ribeye with hilbo spice, served with green beans and he subbed the fries for smashed pots) and I asked what the specialty was and got the Creole and it was ok. I would highly recommend the oysters and the hilbo, but next time I will try something else - maybe the exotic dish! All things aside, the service is impeccable - you can tell they trained their staff well, and the staff cares. You will never want for anything as there is at least 2 people in addition to your waiter coming around to check your water, clear, etc."

  • "Everything was beautiful and wonderful. There were no true negatives. Meal was well presented as well as the wine. The only changes I would make would be to lessen the water refills that were constant and lower the tones of the staff when interacting with others. This in no way interfered with our dinner, please understand that. Just mere suggestions. Thank you for the wonderful night"

  • "We come here once a year. The menu is seasonal. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. At a place like this you are there for the experience so an hour and a half is probably expected. They were a little slower than normal this time but I'll give them a break based on past experience. They have steaks on the menu which are very good. Note, this is not a "steak house" so don't compare their steaks with say Ruth Chris. Decent steaks, great seafood, and lots of excellent entrees and appetizers. You can't go wrong. Last Advice - Upscale but you don't need a suit. - Parking is street or parking garage - Be sure your credit card has plenty of room :-)"
