  • "This is probably a great place if you are staying in the hotel (Hilton) on business during the week. As frequent weekend (this time fourth of July weekend) visitors to the area, we are always looking for new places to try. Servers were as helpful as they could be, but seemed short staffed plus there were two wedding functions that probably took some personnel away. Nonetheless, the food was OK, tasty, good selection and hot on arrival. Took awhile to get the check and get out, but that was related to what might have been the special service situation of that particular weekend. Attractive décor and great views if you walk around and look out the windows. Window seating would have been great, but was not an option for us."

  • "My husband and I were there for our anniversary. We were each treated royally from the moment we came in. Our steak dinners were great, as were the salad bars and dessert bar. The atmosphere was perfect and, might I add, it wasn't freezing cold as many restaurants are in the summer. I also loved that it was quiet and calming after a very hectic day. We sat by the large windows and enjoyed the greenery. I like this restaurant. It's elegant and classy but not stuffy. We have been here before and will return."

It's on the side of the building not even seeing the river and we couldn't sit outside on Father's Day because they said the mosquito's were really bad. If you are looking for a place to sit outside, this is not it."

They not only had to take care of their customers, but they also had to clean tables off which took away from servicing the customers in a timely manner. Had to wait a long time not only to get served, but to also get the check."

  • "We stayed at hotel attached to Allgauer's. We went on a Sunday night and ordered the special Sunday menu. We we disappointed with salad bar that came with this menu. It was not the tradition options. It was mostly mixed salads with few greens options. Could have been kept up better. The dressing were almost empty and the salads looked like they were left overs from the brunch they served earlier in the day. Other then that the entrees we were very good. It was a nice quiet romantic place to go for dinner."

  • "Getting there just as dinner hour started was great. Waitstaff was very attentive and Maitre Di sat us at a window table overlooking the Des Plaines River. Very calming and nice. Menu had a great number of food to choose from and waiter very helpful explaining a few dishes. Lobster Bisque and Onion soup was hot and very tasty. Homemade dressings for salads was very enjoyable,tho Hubby would have preferred iceberg lettuce only. Prime Rib was cooked just right and not too fatty. Lots of meat to eat. Veal with spinach/blue cheese topper was outstanding. Potatoes were cooked appropriately,and zucchini/green bean vegetable medley was good. Overall we had a great time with no rushing and waitstaff made sure glasses were always full. Great dinner"

  • "Very fresh and juicy oysters and crab legs. **Note that they only had orange juice from Florida Fresh (cartons displayed everywhere) and no other fruit juices. *The ad on the website stated various freshly squeezed juices but that is not accurate*. I was looking forward to the fruit juices (not much of a drinker), so was sorely disappointed. The cakes are so, so but the desert arts are to die for,especially pecan tart. Lunch offerings of beef and fish are mediocre, but breakfast foods, including lox is very good. Very good salads with shrimp. A bit wary to recommend to others based on inaccurate advertising..."

  • "I read the reviews before we went. Remembered how it was 20 years ago and hoped for the best. Every presentation was spot on, and the array of choices was delightful. But execution on flavor and quality was definitely lacking. The lobster was tough and flavorless, as was the prime rib. The snow crab legs tasted great but were ice cold and would have been better steamed. Salads were very good, as was the desert table. The Oysters Rockefeller weren't anything special, but the raw oysters tasted fresh and firm. The service was nice. If the food tasted better, it would be worth the price. Sadly, the buffet did not deliver. Much less than expected for dining in a Hilton. Food presentation=great Food quality=not so great Service=good"

The crab claws and shrimp are outstanding, as are all of the fresh salads they make. From 3 glasses of ice tea one was clear nice color of tea two other ones strange color and foggy. Ribs was dried not BBQ, well they have some BBQ souse on it, but meat was dried out on half of the slab. Would not recommend to go there..."

Hair in orange juice, Syrup machine clogged up, a number of COLD entrees, etc. Disappointing as it is an expensive brunch with a LARGE tip automatically added to the bill.   • "Went for my birthday this past Friday. So sadly disappointed because it used to be great. We were there for the 1st seating so the food was freshly put out. Oysters Rockafeller were cold. Seems they were precooked and the oysters were actually very hard - overcooked. The lobster halfs were okay, but the snow crab, although good size, the meat was mushy and not firm. Had to scrape the meat out with my finger! Prime beef was fine. Did not have enough appetite to try anything else although it looked good. Great dessert table. I ordered a frozen margarita which was served in a common water glass?? At least the water was served in a goblet. The only thing that saved my night was the friendly, chatty people I met at the dessert bar."

The ribs portion was so large that those who had that entree each took what remained home in a meal box.   • "Tucked into the Hilton on Milwaukee Avenue, Allgauer's has a pretty view of the waterfront including a lovely ice sculpture which the staff creates every weekend. People tend to overlook the restaurant which has been there many years. Setting is lovely, servers are efficient and friendly and the food well prepared. The steak was the same quality as the steak my husband had a week earlier at almost exactly twice the price. Though the menu isn't extensive, there's a nice selection so everyone should be able to find something appealing. They offer special on Friday and Sunday nights as well as a fabulous brunch on Sundays."
