  • "Salad had real dressing from scratch. You can taste anchovies. The grilled salmon on top was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. I give 4 stars because I love steak and there was only 2 choices. But, this is a seafood Italian restaurant and very good. You can dress up or go casual jeans. Classy enough to not wear shorts. Reserve in advance to get a harborside view window."

  • "Restaurants food is definitely good, but you go back for the location. We had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge from our window table. Overall the menu is very extensive (making it difficult to decide) but considerably higher priced than a similar restaurant off the wharf....so you're paying for the location and the name. I would recommend site seeing in the area and picking a restaurant off the wharf."

  • "Grey Goose Martinis: rough finish Triple Seafood Louis: crab and shrimp tasteless Fish and Chips: super greasy, attempted to send back, but waiter said they would come out the same. Grilled Cod: OK Lobster Bisque: average Chocolate Cake: average Crème Broulee: good A better choice would have been to buy the street seafood on the grotto and take it back to the hotel room."

  • "After living in the Bay Area for 28 years & hearing about Alioto's-I finally made it there with our best friends, visiting from out of town. Making a reservation does not indicate that you will be treated well. We actually felt treated with distain. At the least, with a loss of grace and courtesy. Our meal was ok, until I took the third or fourth bite, whereupon I suddenly had a hair laced bite of my Combo Louis Salad. I took it from my mouth in some horror, and laid it on the table. When pointed out to our server he said, "No one in the kitchen has hair that long, & they all wear hair nets." When dessert arrived, he placed a small plate of cookies on the table and said, "for your trouble-the hair" Return? Never."

  • "I'm a Bay Area native, yet had never been to Alioto's. I highly recommend it; we had a great table with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. Pretty hard to beat. Both the food and the service were firve-star. I highly recommend Alioto's; one trip and you will understand why it's a San Francisco legend."

  • "We had dinner at Alioto's Tuesday evening. The food is not quite what I remembered but not bad. Window tables have great views of fishing boats and water and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Crab bisque was good with lots of crab added. Poached halibut with hollandaise was very good. My friends sole would have been tasty but wasn't boned well so hard to eat. Strange vegetable combo - asparagus egg sort of souffle/frittata with tomato sauce was just odd and not very tasty. Desert of a yellow cake with Sabayon sauce was excellent and very light. Dinner for 2 with appetizers, 2 drinks and 1 desert came to approximately $100 before tip. Not bad for a nice sit down meal in a tourist area but not really much above average."

  • "Alioto's seemed to have the best reviews overall, so we chose it for our only night in the city. Wish we could have gone earlier, before dark, for more of a view. All we got to see from our raised booth was the lights from other restaurants. The Wharf is pretty seedy at night and reminded us of Bourbon Street, which we also avoid at night. Alioto's service was efficient, but the food -- we ordered raw oysters and various seafood dishes including the signature cioppino -- was just average. Cioppino had a couple of shrimp, very little fish, and chunks of crab in the shell, which was messy, hard work for little payoff. The cioppino sauce (or "gravy"), however, is outstanding. They should serve it -- minus the crab -- over pasta."

  • "The first adjective that might come to mind would be "touristy" and that would be fair enough - but there's a surprise in store: the food is very good, the service is excellent, the noise level allows civilized conversation, and the view is breathtaking. We all had sole (from the Bering Straits): superb. Salads, desserts and sides were quite good, and the house bread was bliss for those who crave the perfect crust. Back to the fish - obviously one entree is not representative, but ours were grilled expertly - flavor and presentation were flawless. Pricey but considering the real estate, with its spectacular views, and given the pampering, it was a fair. There's a hint of bygone San Francisco, adding to its charm. Enjoyable and memorable."

I had fond memories of going there years ago and to my surprise it was even better than I remembered. I had the Risotto Alioto and it was delicious!!!   • "First off, the ambience is very good to include the view from the window. The food (seafood) does NOT live up to the price on the menu. Dr. Savage has recommended this place which is why I went. I felt the same way the first time I went but decided to give it one more shot. The bread was cold, the food was fair, and the quality was fair. I have ate at many fine establishments where the bread is served with pride. I will most likely not return to Alioto's as there is no value offered based on price and quality. I can find a small inexpensive cafe in the area where I will not feel the buyers remorse I do at Alioto's."

  • "Whenever we visit San Francisco, Alioto's is always our destination for great food and ambiance. But this visit has convinced us to move on. Despite making Open Table reservations a month in advance, we were given a table with very little view. The waiter paid no attention to our needs and pressed us to order our food the moment we sat down. The "prawn" cocktail turned out to be five small shrimp. The salad was just a Costco mix thrown on the plate with canned dressing. The entrees (both seafood) were something one would get at a coffee shop -- tasteless, no seasoning. Dessert was equally unappetizing. How can one ruin a cannoli? Adding insult to injury, they marked our reservation as "no show" -- but luckily, Open Table fixed our account."

  • "Definitely caters to tourists. In other places in the country, the food a service would be considered excellent, but here in San Francisco, it was simply OK. Despite our 7:00 PM reservation, we did not get seated until 7:30. When served my cioppino dinner, the server forgot to bring a spoon, bib, bowl for shells, etc. The crab bisque was good, but the server spilled it onto the dish while carrying it and did not bother to wipe up the mess."

  • "As a San Franciscan, the thought of going to Fisherman's Warf for dinner seemed always foreign. I brought my parents there to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary and I left thinking I wish we had gone there sooner. The food was delicious and the view of the fishing boats and Golden Gate Bridge were stunning. I highly recommend the Bouillabaisse, which was very flavorful. My dad had the Cioppinno and he loved every bite. My mom, who rarely cleans a plate, really enjoyed the Salmon Sicilian. We would go back, without a doubt."

  • "San Fran is full of great new restaurants, but Alioto's is a gem from my childhood that still has the best seafood, a perfect view of the Golden Gate and the fishing boats (every table seems to have a view), and a interesting wine list. Our service was exceptional, the shrimp, scallops and petrale sole were fresh off the boat, and our skeptical friends were convinced we were right to invite them. We come back every year to San Francisco from Montana, and Alioto's is one of the reasons."

  • "Food is just ok- tried to get plain grilled salmon and declined the item as waiter informed us that they soak everything in salt. Got dun dungeoness crab instead only to taste some odd spice in what was supposed to be a plain steamed crab. Waiter forgot us on water and a few other items You are better off to buy one in the street where the vendors boil right in front of you. Used to always come here- this will be my last visit"
