Diner Reviews
  • "It was the worst restaurant ever, and the food almost inedible and expensive, Even the wine was bad!"

  • "My husband and I dined here for lunch because they had outdoor seating. The service was SO slow that it took over an hour to get the Roman Rain salad of proscuitto and melon and the signature fettuccine alfredo. Drinks took forever, with our server offered them "on him" because of the extreme delay. The fettuccine alfredo was excellent, but the "3 Melon" salad, left a lot to be desired. While the proscuitto was excellent, the "melons" consisted on a nice chunk of watermelon with two thinly shaved strips of cantaloupe and what I assumed to be honeydew. When I say "thin", I mean thin enough to see through. Ridiculous. We won't be going back."

  • "I work two buildings over and have really wanted to try this place as it just recently went through a makeover and change in name, and just recently re-opened. The two things that I ended up having, the minestrone soup and chilean sea bass, were both very good, but in my opinion were both very overpriced, even for NYC. There are a million restaurants in NYC, and in my opinion if a newly opened place like this wants to be successful, they are going to have to lower their prices a bit to get a consistent crowd into their establishment."

  • "I always try to stop at Bice when I am midtown, especially when shopping. It is an unexpected oasis from the craziness of 5th avenue. Beautifully prepared food and a wine list to accompany it; I have never had a disappointing lunch or dinner there."

  • "We took our family of 5 for Christmas lunch and the Christmas set menu for the day was disappointing and not very imaginative. The food was well cooked but did not feel special, The meals did not meet the expectations shown on the regular menu which was not available for Christmas lunch. Service was good ."

  • "After almost 20 yrs going to Bice have yet to be dissapointed for lunch or dinner...a true gem...food is the best and service is always wonderful!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Bice. Nice atmosphere and good food. Very lively spot and we would go back."

  • "Bice is ALWAYS good. the wait staff make you feel like family. I have eaten here 20-25 times and it is always excellent. Phenomenal pasta and THE best calamari in the city. - actually anywhere. Will always be one of my favorite NYC restaurants."

  • "We recently visited Bice, as we have done in the past. We had a reservation, but upon arriving late, our table was still not ready. We were then ignored for some time. Finally flagged someone down for bread and water. Still no waiter, but a gentlemen took our order. Prixe Fixe menu @ $75 per person. The only problem was most of the choices were unavailable due to the fact they ran out of food. Still no drinks, no waiter. We were forced to eat things we did not want. Finally got the drinks for my boys. After 90 minutes, dessert was delivered. No coffee was offered. Over 2 hours of aggravation. The first time in my life I did not leave a tip, as I never met the waiter! Avoid this place until they get their act together."

  • "Terrible, appalling service. Having to ask for bread and being charged twice for a bottle of wine don't begin to describe the incompetence. They had none of the desserts on their menu and allowed multiple tables to sit and languish as people went ignored."

  • "For Christmas eve, there were less lunch crowd but yet the service is very slow . Food continues to be excellent"

  • "We went to see Christmas themed sights in Manhattan and had a nice dinner at Bice with our niece, after a visit to Rockefeller Center. It is located just a few shorts blocks away from Rockefeller Center, Radio City and St. Patrick's Cathedral The food was excellent as well as the service. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you plan to be in the area."

  • "To celebrate a family event I took my wife and Daughter for lunch. I work in the area and have had many business lunches and always have had a good experience. However...When dressed more casually and with my family I guess the waiter thought I was a tourist and would never see me again. The bus boy was more helpful then he was. Everything else was very good. I will go back but If I get that waiter again I'm asking for a different one."

  • "The food was good but the service was the slowest I've seen ...possibly ever. We sat down at 7.30 on a Friday night and didn't get up until 11.15 ! And that was the case for most of the tables around us .... very slow service !"

  • "The evening was part of a weekend away to celebrate my wife's birthday. NYC, Highly rated Italian restaurant, Snowy night, walking distance to the hotel who could ask for a better framework for a great night. Arrived and seated on time, table was on top of the group next to us, service a little slow but not good nor bad, drinks were good, food was excellent we had veal scallopine, and cavatelli both were excellent, dessert was very good. So what went wrong! Well when you give a coat check person your belongings you expect to get them back! Two coats two scarfs and ear muffs. All came back but the ear muffs, 20 degrees outside and no ear muffs no apology no let me get the manager take your name and number just next!"

  • "One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had at a supposedly fine restaurant in Manhattan. The service was abominable, the food mediocre. And they had the nerve to include the gratuity for a party of 4. Just a horrible experience all the way around."
    Dined on 12/13/2013
  • "We had a 5:45 dinner reservation, pre-theater. Service was so slow, we barely made it out by 7:45. And no dessert! As we're getting our coats on, they asked us to hurry up because they had another party to seat! Never again."

  • "had a great time here with my BF. He really enjoyed the food as well. the tuna tartare is amazing.... We had the veil chops and the shrimp for main course. I have no complaints. We will return."

  • "Took 15 mins to be seated with no line. Once seated, tools 10 mins to get water. 15 for a menu and 20 for a drink order to be taken. Ok with kids there with regard to food... Although I really don't believe they wanted kids there to begin with. Loved the food once delivered. So good. Sauce was excellent."

  • "Group of 7 took dinner at Bice in NYC, a thursday night dinner. Seated at our reservation time, would recommend reservations. Wine list centered on Italian wines, although a few other options available. Apps: mussels, calamari and roasted asparagus=all were fresh and hot and delicious. 7 different dinners ordered and ALL were great- i took a taste of everyones: seafood risotto, mushroom ravioli in garlic/white wine sauce, penne, salmon etc. all served hot and delicious. Too full for dessert, but had about 6 options: tiramisu, gelato. I would definitely go back, again, recommend reservations, i don't know if you'd get in too quickly if you just walked in."

  • "We always look forward to dining at Bice when we come to New York. The food was excellent as usual but was overbooked. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated and others were also complaining about the wait. Service was good but could have been better if thet had not been over crowded. We will be back and hope they can honor reservations on a more timely basis. This was the 1st time we have had this to happen with us."

  • "It took 15min for someone to acknowledge us at the table. Never was asked if we wanted drinks. Description of food didn't match the plated dish. Try somewhere else.. Water boy filled the water glass, knowing he was spilling on the table and didn't care and didn't stop until the glass was full and our table cloth was saturated. There was something in my water glass, so a waiter took my glass and just dumped it and put the same glass just wet and empty back in front of me. (gross)"

  • "As always, food was great, however, the service was slow and waiter unattentive. I've always liked the restaurant, but this time service was bad."

  • "Although my veal dish was excellent and so was my friends other dishes, the pumpkin ravioli was under cooked and raw. The service was terrible we had to ask a manager to get our drinks and bring us menus to order. Felt as though we were a bother. We were a large party and although the rest of our food was superb not sure of it is worth it with the terrible service we received."

  • "this was our splurge when we were in NYC with our 9 year old for Thanksgiving.....we took our niece and a friend. I have never liked Ossobuco / my husband ordered it...I tried it and LOVED it....the pasta dishes were amazing. My daughter even cleared her plate of Penne Pasta with cheese... the waiter did not bug us and let us DINE....I would recommend this to you!"

  • "My friends and I were visiting NYC. We wanted to eat out, but not necessarily have a thanksgiving dinner. Bice had a pre established thanksgiving menu, and we found it a bit much; 3 girls with small appetite, the food would have gone to waste. The chef was nice enough to do an exeption, and let us order just one course. My friends both had the carrot fettucini and i had the lobster ravioli. Both meals were outstanding, very tasty, nice presentation. We also had a complimentary glass of champagne, which was very appreciated. The thing i liked the most is the outstanding service. Our waiter was very attentive and very professional. I would definitely go back if i ever come back to NYC !!"

  • "I have been known to enjoy pricy meals dining out. Bice, however, will not be getting a return trip. The food was adequate, and the wine list acceptable, but both would have been more appropriate at half the price. For $100 a head "adequate" really isn't. I noticed that they're on Seamless, though - maybe their takeout menu is better priced? My pasta was tasty, although I suspect that may be the result of the small lake of butter that passed for sauce (rather than any special talent of the chef's). My date's beet and pear salad would have been quite nice at eight or even twelve dollars. At twenty it seemed... underwhelming. There are dozens of restaurants in this price range that provide truly excellent meals - go there instead."

  • "Had looked forward to as we had went to the Milan location before. Indifferent service, not a single smile or thank you from The mgr or any waiter. Seems to have team service with no One taking the lead or caring. bland food as well. Ordered 2010 vintage wine, got 2012, mgr says that's what you get as the wine co Brought. Charged same price, no apology. Would never go back.?"

  • "High-quality, consistent service from waiters, not actor kids, in a beautiful, warm room. Every detail from the uniforms to the way they interact with you is top notch. If you have a date they will make her feel like a queen and make you look like a prince. The food is likewise top notch: creative and excellent. Fresh pasta. Wonderful risottos. Delicious fish and veal. I have dined here maybe 30 times over several years and it is amazingly consistent. Always a fantastic time."

  • "So whenever you go to a restaurant, you have to trust the food you order. The menu is filled with meats and fish that are wild caught, grass fed, free range, etc. The quality and freshness of the food allows you to know that the menu speaks the truth. It is a bit pricey though but definitely worth it."

  • "The paperdelle was so yummy! The veal scallopini and risotto were both excellent as well. Would definitely recommend and will probably be back!"

  • "It's a nice spot but I did not feel warmly welcomed or appreciate that the waiter frowned when we, dreseed in our business suits, said that we wanted tap water. The food is good but not exceptional and it's hard to justify their price points."

  • "Found this gem in Milan over 30 years ago. Haven't been in NYC for some years, we revisited twice last week and thrilled that we did. The food was outstanding and love that we now have a restaurant we can count on for business and social again!"

    Dined on 11/3/2013
  • "Went to Bice years ago and loved the food. This time felt more like an industrial experience where the food is part of a production line. Had the tuna tartare appetizer and it tasted like rubber that had been pre-prepared and left in a refrigerator for several days. The veal scallopini was tough and rubbery. All in all a bad experience. Will take Bice off my list."

  • "On short notice, I returned to an old favorite to find it was better than ever. Food and especially the service was exceptional. Our waiter was kind, humorous and attentive. Sitting outside on a comfortable evening was an added plus. I am still unsure as to why this restaurant could not make it in Beverly Hills or Pasadena. Overall, an excellent restaurant in a busy neighborhood, but close to Fifth Avenue shopping and midtown activities."

  • "The service at Bice was just awful. The gentleman taking the drink order was confused about the drink order and finally just ignored us. The appetizers came in timely fashion, but the dinner took 45 minutes or more from the time the appetizers were served. Finally, we had to ask a few people what happened to our dinners as other customers who came in after us were already leaving the restaurant. Food was average. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and will not recommend Bice to our friends."
