  • "Dinner for 2 might set you back $100, but the diverse menu and expertly prepared dishes are worth it in my book. The staff is pleasant and courteous! The deserts are amazing! "

  • "I went there in April 2014 for a friends birthday. I'd seen the place a lot and always thought to go. i think a lot of people think Argentinian/Italian is a weird combo but Argentina has a large Italian immigrant population so it isn't that weird. My friend and I enjoyed the friendly service and the food. The butternut squash, gorgonzola soup was really nice. i had a steak which well cooked but i'd've preferred it to be hotter and my friend enjoyed the fish. The pastas and salads looked interesting well. The wine list is appropriate relative to the size of the menu. Even though we went on a Wednesday it was relatively full and some of the people seemed like regulars (a good sign) so it'd be a good idea to make a reservation."

  • "Food was fair not great. We had a lamb rissota and there was very little lamb and the lamb was chewy. My wifes dish was salty. Had to ask for bread and more butter. They ran out of salmon . Our main course took almost an hour to arrive. The place was not that busy . We seemed to have gotten lost. The floor manager came to apologize but it didn't weem to make our meal appear faster. When we were done the owner manager? came to apologize and gave us his card with a 10% off with our next visit and he wrote off my wife's meal. Great gestures but since the food was not the best, we won't be going back anyway. We wouldn't recommend the place to anyone. So sad if this great location goes the way of every other business in that location."

  • "Good menu. We started with empanadas which were delicious. All four of us had fish-- all beautifully prepared. We ordered wine by the glass. Good selections, and waitress recommended mine. I loved it. We went early (6:00) and asked for a table near back & by a wall for quiet conversation. It was great until it got very busy and louder around 8 PM when the restaurant became much busier. Alfio's is one of our favorite restaurants."

  • "We had salmon, mahi mahi, seafood risitto, and lobster tail between three of us and all finished our plates clean. Dessert was peanut butter cup cheesecake that was good. The waiter was a bit "off", just "off". Not enough to affect my experience but enough to mention it here and to roll my eyes when he chased me down to give him the credit card receipts that I must have assuredly accidentally walked off with. Turns out that the receipts were on the bar when I walked back to the restaurant with him. Again, just an annoyance. The food was great. The acoustics are strange. The domed ceiling causes noise to amplify."

  • "Enjoyed the empanadas, but the ravioli and risotto were stand outs. Will be back because there were salads/soups and other entrees that we were considering."

  • "Accommodated our large, ever evolving party- no problem. Wine list knowledge and gave great recommendation. Food, especially lamb entree and empanadas appetizer - out of this world."

  • "We had a great dining experience. Our service was excellent and the chef came out to great us and ensure we loved our meals. Quite possibly the best Italian i've had."

  • "Alfio's is a family favorite. Whenever I have guests from out of town, this is sure to please. Alfio and his staff are always eager to make our visit a pleasant one, even going so far as to prepare our favorite soup for the day if we ask in advance!"

  • "Love the mixture of foods from Argentina and Italy. The lamb is to die for as is the pastas. This place has had multiple owners over the years, but this one is a keeper!!"

  • "I felt that all of our dinners were made with a loving touch! Perfection! Alfio's was very busy that night and it did take longer to get our food, but, when it did arrive we were not disappointed. We had the shellfish risotto, short rib ravioli and the scallops with pasta. YUM!"

  • "Being regular customers at Bella Luna, we have been curious to try Alfio's for some time. We made a reservation through OpenTable after seeing many other positive reviews. We arrived on-time for an 8:45pm reservation; our table was not ready for about 10 minutes, so we had a drink at the bar. Our server was very attentive and friendly; the food was delicious. We ordered the Empanada Trio for an appetizer which was very tasty. The entrees we ordered included Chicken with Pancetta Risotto, Lamb Chops, and Skirt Steak... everyone had only positive reviews. Alfio's has a good wine list and bottled-beer selection. Their desserts are good, but not my favorite. Overall, a very nice evening out... we will definitely return..."

  • "The food was fantastic but the service was slow and not exeactly on top of things. While the rating for noise says "energetic", I call it noisy. There are no soft surfaces so the sound bounces around the room. We were at a table for two and we had a hard time hearing each other. If you are just going for the food, this is a great place to eat!"

  • "My second time here and just as satisfying as the first visit. Have tried fish, meat and pasta and all are excellent. Well plated and delicious. Also, I tried a martini which I think is a great test of the bartender-this was excellent by my criteria which is it must have ice crystals to show it is really really cold! Plus the staff is attentive and friendly but not cloying. It is a tad noisy so I suggest a table next to the wall to mute the sound."

  • "We were treating friends to this fabulous restaurant. Everything (lamb chops, salmon, brushetta, mussels, scallops, etc.) was perfect. Our waitress had attitude and was horrible from the minute she came by. It was truly a joke that lasted the entire meal as to how she could get things wrong or forget everything. She brought the bill without telling me that she didn't have milk for my coffee, which sent me to the manager. He couldn't have been nicer and took very good care of us. In the end, we were pleased with our meal and will try it again (we'd been before). Hopefully, your wait-staff will be more on top of things... The food is definitely worth it."

  • "This was my third visit to Alfio's and the food continues to WOW me. Absolutely delicious. Everything is incredibly flavorful. The empanada appetizer is phenomenal and I could eat the angus five-cheese ravioli every day! However, the service left much to be desired. We were not greeted for at least 5 minutes and we not asked if we would like anything to drink, our server went straight to appetizers. We were also never told the special. Overall, I did not feel like our server was interested in talking to us at all. Seemed annoyed by our presence actually. I know this is not typical of Alfio's. I was surprised and disappointed by this visit."

  • "This was our first dinner at this restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed and very pleasant. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. He made some very good suggestions, especially about the wine selection. The food was very good and a quick visit by the chef/owner made the evening seem special. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Two middle aged couples out for dinner and conversation. This was NOT the place to go. Food was decent but you could not hear each other across the table due to surrounding extremely loud conversation. This restaurant needs to seriously address this problem with appropriate noise suppression design and technology!!! Perhaps add carpeting, noise suppression ceiling tiles, padded panels and wall treatments to name a few. Seriously, this place was so loud, we couldn't hear each other talk without shouting, which, was what everyone else was doing and this, of course, put a damper on having an enjoyable dinning experience."

  • "Our first time to this resto, a Saturday night dinner for two; arrived at 6p and promptly seated. our waiter was not that great, spent little time with us, took our wine order w/o any assistance to help choose thru their list of Italian & Argentine wines. But, the food was fantastic, and either we got lucky on our wine choices or they're all good..By 6:30p, the place was full, but we were out the door by 7:15p in time to attend an 8p CSO concert... would definitely try again."

  • "My first Alfio's experience was last November and after, I raved about it to everyone. The risotto was absolutely amazing, and our server was high energy, overly accommodating, helpful, friendly, and made our entire experience that much better. This time was different in a not-so-good way. For one, the food was overly salty. Everyone's dish seemed to have been seasoned with a heavy hand that left us searching for water. But most disappointing was our service. Our waiter was not personable, did not introduce specials, describe any of the dishes, and even when we said we were ready to order, he walked away. We weren't checked on, and we left feeling like we were the forgotten table in the corner."

  • "This was our first time trying Alfio's. Our service was very good as well as the food. Had the empanada trio, chicken florentine cannelloni and the skirt steak and would recommend all three. Will go again and try other items. Chef Alfio was in the dining room checking in with guests. For once we were able to talk across the table without competing with the noise level."

  • "Went on a week night with friends. We were greeted warmly at the front and our server was equally sincere in her attention to us. The food was great- we tried the empanadas- a must have and perfect for sharing. We each tried a different entree-all fish but all three hit a home run. Cannot wait to return and try more items on the menu because we had a hard time narrowing our choices."

  • "There were three of us, three generations represented, at Alfio's for dinner Tuesday night. All of us enjoy fairly frequent meals out, but none of us had tried Alfio's despite it's having been open for a little over a year (per our waitress). We had no trouble getting reservations, the food was excellent, the service was friendly and very well timed, and all three of us said we would love to go back for another meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion!"

  • "My husband and I went there a few weeks ago for Vday and it was amazing. The food was delicious and the wine we paired is def going to be a wine I am going to buy again. Overall a great first experience. It was so good we went there for my brother birthday dinner! Everyone enjoyed it. Its not as romantic as the prices suggest it would be but still a great place for a couple dinner or even a special occasion. The servers are wonderful and knowledgeable about the menu and wine. Will def be going there frequently."

  • "Grilled romaine salad was superb as was the braided short rib ravioli. Very disappointed in the lamb chops...over cooked, dry, and very small. Good service, convenient location, but over priced based on my first experience, but I will be back to try the skirt steak and empenadas."

  • "We had a good time, and everyone enjoyed their meal. We came in early, and our table was not yet prepared. We had reservations for four, but as we were being seated we were informed that they removed two settings and had to replace them. Apart from that, our experience was very nice."

  • "This was our first time dining at Alfio's. We were most impressed by the warm welcome and gracious, attentive service. We had the empanada appetizer, lamb and short rib ravioli. All 3 dishes were excellent and reasonably priced, as were the wines. We definitely recommend this neighborhood gem."

  • "My fiancée and I came to Alfio's for a Saturday date night. Reservations a week in advance were a good move - by 6:30 patrons were queuing up around the bar and front door and every table was filled. We had a table near the back near mostly other couples but a few small groups too, and the atmosphere felt intimate even though the chatter was pretty lively. Our server was attentive and cheerful and brought two generous wine samples to help my fiancée decide what to have with dinner. We both ordered from the Italian section of the menu (Chicken Florentine Cannelloni and Pistachio Crusted Salmon). Both were absolutely excellent, flavorful and perfectly prepared. We will be happy to return soon."

  • "Had a wonderful experience here. Started with a couple salads, the poached pear salad was just okay. The pears though tasty were overly soft and squishy after poaching, ended up being reminiscent of tossing a few canned pears on a delicate arugula salad. My other half out ordered me with the fried goat cheese and beet salad—delicious. The star of the night was the seafood risotto—decadent and not overly fishy. My significant other had the ruby trout, another good dish, though a little heavy on the salt. Overall, we agreed my dish won. We finished with the tiramisu which was the perfect end to the meal, not overly sweet, delicately balanced by the miniature scoop of strawberry gelato. Overall, great experience, will definitely be back."

  • "Four of us had dinner at Alfio's after an art opening at Miller Gallery. We were given a decent table near the back. Our appetizers (empanadas and mussels) were terrific. Our entrees were excellent. Our server made several helpful suggestions about what to order. For example, I never would have ordered the ribeye steak with Argentine spices if he had not praised it so much. And it was superb. The wine list is small, but thoughtful and very fairly priced. We did not have dessert."

  • "Overall, an average restaurant. The pasta and empanadas dishes were great (clearly homemade), but the fried zucchini appetizer lacked flavor (the dipping sauce helped). The portions are very generous and large enough to share, and it was nice that the kitchen split plates when we told them we were sharing dishes. The layout of the restaurant makes it feel like you are dining with those around you and the door placement has you feeling the blast of cold air through the front half of the dining room. The service was average. We had to ask for water and were not told the specials, and she didn't check in with us much. I don't know if I'd make a special trip to return, unless we're looking for pasta or meeting friends in this area of town."

  • "This Hyde Park neighborhood restaurant has personality plus. We've been 3 times now and love the food. The owners spend a lot of time choosing appropriate wines and the staff knows it well. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Though it isn't large enough to describe it as a "vibrant bar scene," we dined at the bar twice and enjoyed meeting other patrons and chatting with the bartenders. The owner is very hands on. We've enjoyed speaking to him on each visit."
