I look forward to returning next year.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDiverse clientele....People right off the golf course, couples, larger groups of several couples, businesspeople, and surprisingly, accommodations for families with several babies and small kids (in what seemed like a glassed in porch with a view of the lagoon). They were able to enjoy their meals as a family and the more 'mature' diners were able to enjoy a relaxed and quiet dinner.
Our server, Andrea, was efficient, knowledgeable, and genial.
My scallops were delicious. My husband's steak was cooked to order. My only negative comment (which I seem to have at every restaurant I've tried in the South) is too much salt. The presentation and taste is always outstanding. The only damper was the service because they were very busy. My wife drinks coffee with cream and sugar and we never got sugar and she drank the coffee unsweetened because the waitress did not return in a reasonable time an she did not want it to get cold. One of my guests wanted a take home box and she brought a bottom and top that did not fit together.
I will give them another chance for sure. Tony was our waiter...professional,amiable,knew the specials (may be part of his job, but so many don't know it's refreshing), his timing was perfect he and made perfect recomendations for both drink and food. Food...what to say, portions were perfect (almost too much) perfectly prepared and presented, chef obviously knows exactly what he is doing. As a frequent visitor to der Vaterland, I opted for the filet, which was excellent. THe wine list was extensive, with two price ranges. We enjoyed two bottles of Anne Amarie Pinot Noir which was also excellent (compliment to the schnitzel and beef). As compared with some much pricier Pinots, the Anne Amarie is a real find. Pricing was a bit on the high side, but the convenience, service, and overall dining experience are well worth it.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
