I love the craftmanship of the decor, and the unique experience.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat atmosphere, terrible foodthis will be the most expensive terrible meal you'll ever have and yet it's worth it. the cocktails are watered down, but the wines are decent. the fried chicken is dry and tastes of old oil. the salmon was super overcooked. you'd think for $30+ a meal that they could get some good chefs, but this place isn't about quality food. the restaurants is kitchy and sparkly and pink and that's why i keep going back. always disappointed with the food and yet i always have a great time and love this place.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming dinner locationWell, have to admit we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. My husband had the pork ribs. I enjoyed the sirloin. The sirloin was a bit too rare for me, but, I still ate it. We were staying at the hotel for a wedding that was local and decided to eat at the Alex Steakhouse pre welcome drinks. They actually prepared my steak rare, (it's almost as if people don't believe you when you tell them that you want a rare steak), and the wine selection was local and varied. Many people come here for a special occasion or celebration, as can be noted by the different balloons floating from nearby tables. The decor is one of the primary items of interest here, and is worth a trip to at least sit at the bar and take in the scenery.
What they do here is steak, and they do it pretty well. Expect to get a cut of meat that is tender, juicy, and cooked to order. The rest of the meal seems pretty average, including your baked potato and garden salad. The meal is slightly overpriced for what you get, but you are paying for the ambiance more than anything.
Wine list is a little sparse, but was all local options.

We are from the bay area, but
typically have spent our Anniversary, Birthday's, and Valentines day's for most of the last ten years in the Pismo Beach area. We always make dinner reservations for our dinner celebration at the Gold Rush steak house, and have never been disappointed by the service or food, this time was no exception. The menu has changed since out last visit and the selection is much larger and more variety then in the past, but the taste is great as ever. The ambiance, decor, service, music, was perfect. The menu is a bit dated, but nonetheless very good. It is an old school dining adventure with lots of fun flare. My boyfriend and I will be back for sure and will recommend to all friends. You must room at Madonna Inn, eat a huge piece of cake at Copper Kettle, lay by the heated pool, dance in the ballroom, hike and to top it off you must eat at Alex Madonna's Gold Rush Steakhouse or else your not getting the full experience.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a terrific dining experienceWe had a terrific dining experience this time, our meals were cooked to perfection, and the service was excellent, the desserts were fantastic and the band was very entertaining. I wish for everyone to know that this hotel is the most enchanting hotel, bar, and restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The staff is warm and friendly, the grounds are something out of a storybook, and the food is something to crave until next you visit. The only thing I would change...where I live! I'd love to live around the corner so I could visit more! The restaurant is fantastic, with pink banquettes and golden statuary all over. The staff is always super friendly.
