Great dinner! The patio was
beautiful & the fire was lit as it got dark. Small menu but a bit of everything was offered. Our appetizer, dessert & both entrees were very good. Attentive, knowledgeable server. Large wine list. Will definitely be returning!"

Alex has become our favorite
Italian restaurant. La cucina novella combines flavors of Tuscany, Emiglia Romagna, and Liguria. the fish was fresh and carefully prepared. Artisan pastas wee elegant and scrumptoous. Alex is a gem and we are glad the owners settled in our valley. We'll be back again and again."

Another great experience at Alex.
We caught up with friends at Alex and they were totally awed by the style and food. The appetizers suggested by Victoria were outstanding and we ordered dessert at the same time since each is made fresh and requires some time to prepare. The NY steak was wonderful and tender; the seared tuna seemed to leave the group flat and we thought it was lacking flavor and was over done. The desserts did not disappoint and we all left refreshed and very happy."

We sat outside on the terrace,
which is like sitting in your best friend's really nice backyard in Tuscany. We started with prosecco, and then they brought an amuse bouche with burrrata and asparagus. It was creamy and perfect. We then had a tuna and salmon tartare with rough chunks of sea salt and avocado that was delicious, and a arugula salad that was light and refreshing. For our main courses we had the Italian steak, which was a preparation I had never had before. It was sliced thin over an arugula salad with sea salt and Italian cheese. I really enjoyed it. My date had the seared tuna, which was simple preparation and healthy. This is the antithesis of touristy Napa. It's small, intimate, relaxed, and very charming."

Alex the host is darling. The food
is fresh and delicious. The wine list interesting and well-priced. Always a pleasure!"
Dined on 7/18/2014
Overall the food was not great and
didn't live up to the reviews we had read."
Dined on 7/18/2014
Maybe we arrived on an off night.
Not much going on - food, service a bit sketchy. We do want to give them another chance."
Dined on 7/12/2014
Excellant creative dishes. Owner
came out several times and added extras. Wonderful experience."
Dined on 7/11/2014
Superb italian food prepared like
you were in italy. Very hard to find anywhere here. A special treat. Wonderful wine list."
Dined on 7/2/2014
It's authentic Italian food.
Fresh ingredients, outstanding wine list, great service. A hidden gem in the wine country"
Dined on 6/27/2014
Empty place. Limited menu. Chef
gone? Food OK once it was finally served."

Alessandro, Alessia (The Alex's)
and staff have created a little gem in a beautiful spot in The Valley. It's not for everyone, but if you appreciate thoughtful and beautifully prepared food from a couple of regions in Italy, and are willing to spend a bit (reasonable for the quality), it's a not to be missed."

Alex takes fine dining to a new
level. The dining room is absolutely lovely and very welcoming. The menu is brief and the wine list is massive. Our server Victoria was the most knowledgeable we have seen in a very long time. Her suggestions matched our wine perfectly and the food was outstanding. We will be back again and again."

Alex in Rutherford is a friendly,
special local restaurant with outstanding mostly Italian food. Service is excellent, fine full wine list, and satisfying in all ways. We ate the Chicken prepared under a brick, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy in the middle. Salmon in grape leaves was delicious. Our first courses were perfect. This restaurant deserves attention, lucky to have it in my neighborhood. It has a pleasant ambiance and Alex, the owner, could not be more attentive and caring."
Dined on 6/13/2014
A great restaurant that
specializes in northern Italian food, but it also features dishes from all over Italy. The wine list is spectacular and varied. The food is impeccably prepared with a focus on freshness and locally sourcing. Alex, the host, and Allesia, his wife that manages the kitchen, are easily the most hospitable owners in the Napa Valley. As you would expect, the service is perfect."
Dined on 6/3/2014
Hate to even review it because it
is flying below the radar. The locals told us about it. Best food in Napa by far. Shhhh"
Dined on 5/25/2014
The food was very creative and
superbly prepared. The wine list is vast and very expensive. It could use more affordable by-the-glass options. The service was extremely thorough, but so attentive that it was disruptive to an otherwise delicious and romantic dinner."
Dined on 5/24/2014
We dined in the lovely patio for
lunch. The crab ravioli was outstanding."
Dined on 5/22/2014
The chef and staff at Alex's are
phenomenonal. Pasta was perfect, service impeccable, the asparagus soup deliciously fresh. If you want Italian better than in Italy, this is the place."
Dined on 5/20/2014
Great restaurant but I did miss a
dining outdoors, with a view. I felt like I was in a dining room which was rather dark. At Auberge there is a sweeping view of the Napa Valley, at Meadowood there is the golf course. My only complaint was the setting. I did ask for the patio but it was unavailable until 5 mins after we were seated."
Dined on 5/11/2014
My friend, my children and I had a
lovely lunch on the patio at Alex on Friday. The day could not have been better....good food, good wine, good company, beautiful weather. I love this Italian restaurant in my neighborhood of Rutherford. Been there several times with friends and we all have had wonderful time!"

This was our best dining
experience while in Napa. Went on a quiet Wednesday and were impressed the moment we entered. Atmosphere is comfortably refined. Our server, Will, provided flawless, perfectly paced service and two wine choices that couldn't have been better. The menu is not deep with choices but I view that as a positive sign. Duck Pansotti was wonderful. Pork Cheeks with truffle puree equally so. Squid ink pasta with Dungeness crab and shrimp is highly recommended. We would be regulars here if it weren't the 2000 miles that separates us. Highly recommend."
Dined on 5/7/2014
Very nice decor. Clean colors,
wine country theme. Nice outdoor seating. The menue is not large, but a good selection. Every thing was very well prepared and the ingredients were top rate. The squid ink pasta was over the top great. Texture of the pasta was perfect, along with the crab and shrimp a dish I will remember. Duck and pork cheeks were a delight. "

Charming environment with
excellent and friendly service . Good wine list of Italian wines and nice food selection"

This restaurant is finally hitting
its stride. The octopus was done perfectly; crispy yet still tender. The burata salad is consistently good. The pastas are fresh and correctly prepared. Chestnut pasta is our current favorite. The tenderloin is one of the best steaks in the area. Petrale sole was substituted for halibut on our last visit and it was excellent. Ricotta cheese cake with whipped cream and berries was a great ending to a delicious meal. "

We had a very nice lunch here
after touring some local wineries. We shared several dishes. The staff was very accommodating in this busy restaurant. The home made pasta was delicious ! We shared a duck ragu and also a pork schnitzel. Our friends also shared the pasta and a steak dish. Both were perfectly prepared."
Dined on 4/26/2014
We checked out this resturant as
we were staying at the Inn next door. It was a wonderful find! I had the beef for my entree and started with the Potato Gnonish. Both were excellent and the kitchen even made something special for my teenage daughter who was a bit overwhelm by the foodie culture of Napa. The really worked hard to take good care of us! The large roaring fireplace was beautiful on a cool rainy evening"
Dined on 4/25/2014
Very small portions. The service
was good, the restaurant is very nicely appointed. We were suspicious that there weren't many customers (Friday Night) but after we ate there we weren't surprised. Food was fair. The menu is small and limited. Huge wine list...lots of imported."
Dined on 4/25/2014
Every course was prepared
perfectly, from start to finish. We requested our server recommend wine for each course and could not have been happier with her choices. The gnocchi was a stand out - the best we have ever tasted. Highly recommended."
Dined on 4/22/2014
The cuisine is outstanding. We had
the most tender octopus salad ever, followed by gnocchi that nearly levitated off the plate served with spring vegetables. It was as elegant as it was tasty. Portions are on the smallish side and prices are justifiably higher than most. The wine list is ambitious. It has become our favorite place for special events and celebrations."

Those were the words of our son
who worked w Alex's Chef Todd at Auberge. If you are looking for alluring flavors on plated works of culinary art you better go now before the world figures out about Alex. Red/yellow beet salad, citrus, arugula, goat cheese to start. Yum! Then chestnut pappardelle pasta w/tomato, burrata, & pesto. OMG!!! I had to stop myself from eating all of this fabulous pasta; brought it home! Next onion crusted salmon w/hearty vegis/faro. Brought that home too so I could have the unbelievable..shortbread cookie topped w/chocolate/caramelized bananas. Ate the whole thing! My husband loved his butter lettuce salad, gnocchi, beef tenderloin & Gelato. Thank you to very accomplished Chef Todd! We will definitely be back!"

Went to Alex's with local friends.
A little empty for a Thurs night, restaurant deserved better. I had Parpdelle and my wife the duck. Both were excellent. Everything was great, very good and friendly service. Will return."

Alex is a restaurant that deserves
more attention. It's just "off the main road" (Rt. 29) so many people may not even know it's there. But it's well worth the slight jog East on the Rutherford Cross Road. We had excellent starters - asparagus soup that was very fresh tasting and a delightful burata and carrot salad. That was followed by the most delightful chestnut pasta dish. My salmon and my husband's steak were both done exactly as we asked for them. We also enjoyed a lovely Barbaresco with our meal that we felt was fairly priced. All in all we enjoyed a lovely evening and will be going back soon."

We had a great time at the
restaurant. Good food, good friends. Can't wait to come back!"
Dined on 3/18/2014
We dined on a Sunday evening. The
restaurant had a quiet atmosphere and elegant decor. Though we brought our own wine, there was a long and interesting wine list. Lots of wines from Europe. The food was excellent. I had the squid ink pasta with dungeness crab and shrimp. Absolutely one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten. My husband had the beef tenderloin. He said the meat was very tender and tasty. The only con about the dinner was the portion size. Very small plates of food made us glad we started with a salad. I would recommend it as a great special occasion restaurant. The prices are a bit steep, though, for the portion size."
Dined on 3/16/2014
We stayed at the Rancho Caymus
which is connected to this restaurant. We weren't particularly hungry but it had been recommended and it was our last night so we chose to share a few dishes. It's a small place but it wasn't crowded while we were there. The food was wonderful, as was the service. I can imagine though that on a busy weekend night that this place would get very crowded, so I would recommend trying it early or on a night when it most likely wouldn't get too busy."
Dined on 3/11/2014
this is a pretty location in a
beautiful place that has unrealistic ideas about dining. Stike one, wine only. Strike two, to dark to read menu. Strike three, have to order every course or go home and have a snack. Tiny tiny tiny portions. Beet salad had two whole slices of beet. Baby vegetables with entree were so few and so tiny as to not even be worth messing with. Dessert was a teeny tiny cookie with a banana slice on top or a couple small pieces of chocolate and a teaspoon of gelato. Not even a bite or enough to fill a spoon. Would not go back, ever! The service was good, we were the only ones in there. Very expensive, So if you want to spend 250.00 for about five bites of food this is your place."
Dined on 3/6/2014
It must have been an off day for
the place. My main dish was a little on the salty side. My fiance enjoyed her halibut thou."
Dined on 3/1/2014
Alex had great ambiance. Portions
are small, but very good. Very Italian."
Dined on 2/15/2014
I like this place! After dinning
here once you are known when you come next time and that is what is happening when it is family owned and the waiters are the same. The food is true Italian with a variety of selections. The wine list is great and if you are into Italian wines it is a gem."
