"We were a party of six local men, all of whom have lived in the Napa Valley for more than 25 years. We have tried all the restaurants. The food at Alex was outstanding. Every meal was a delight and it was true Italian dining. Portions were small and pricey however. Pricey is the name of the game in the Napa Valley so that was not unexpected. We were all still hungry when we left and vowed to come back and order more next time--and pay the price. If you are looking for a bargain this is not the place. If you are looking for a memorable meal i'd recommend it. Service was a little bit slow, particularly for a lunch when we all had to get back to work afterward. But the wait staff was friendly and knowledgable. Will try it for dinner next time"

"My second visit, this time for lunch with my husband, was as good as my first. We sat on the lovely patio. The starter, octopus, is grilled properly with just the right amount of char taste. The game hen has a unique presentation -- boned, rolled, stuffed, and cut into lovely medallions. Roasted vegetables with the game hen are spectacular. Fettuccini with rabbit was light and delicate. With each course we noted that sugar and salt were NOT among the first several flavors noted -- rather herbs, spices and the foods, themselves -- a welcome change from the heavy handedness of other kitchens. Superior wines. Coffee was hot and dark without a hint of bitter. Desserts were good and not too big. Service is warm yet professional."

"This restaurant is - in my opinion - close to perfect. It is unpretentious, warm, inviting, the food is delicious, the wine list impressive, the service was gracious without being overbearing. It was like eating at a good friend's. It is small enough to feel intimate, yet the menu is marvelously varied. The broccoli (yes broccoli!) soup was superb. The waitress was extremely knowlegeble and helpful in selecting a wine that I would gladly buy a case of. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Many of the restarants in the Napa Valley get a little carried away with themselves, Alex does not. It is all about the food and making you feel welcome."

"Absolutely outstanidng in every regard: food, service, ambiance. This place is a huge hit and I will return next time I am in Napa. Fantasic menu, great wine list and not over the top prices. The service was spot on as well."

"The standout of the meal was the beet salad - it was perfectly balanced, beautiful and delicious. I think it's the best salad I've ever eaten (aside from bacon caesar). The rest of the meal was good but single flavored with too much sauce. The service was nice. Looking forward to trying more pasta!"

"Quiet on a rainy night in Rutherford, but wouldn't seat us by fireplace at table that stayed open all night.
High concept food, that lacked any distinctive qualities. Liked the Foie Gras, and I had the pork cheeks,
which were good, but underwhelming. Roast chicken nice, but
vegetables overcooked and unflavorable.
Pasta was underwhelming, followed by a Panna Cotta, the
least appealing I've ever had. Service was no issue, and the
staff was quite friendly."

"After dining in the Napa Valley for over thirty years, Alex was a real find!! Put it up against any of the local restaurant in the area.
The menu was more interesting at the restaurant than on line. Give it a go, you will not be sorry!!"
