Alewife was only restaurant near the Hi[podrome theater (right across the street) with full bar and table service --an extensive menu and appetizers were also great. Bar was awesome with every libation imaginable; good selection of wines by glass or bottle and beers, too. Only downside was it was quite noisy and crowded, but adapted easily. Staff and patrons were friendly and it was a great prep for the high energy rock revue we were seeing. The salads and the duck fries were outstanding. The burger was too big for me, but it got rave reviews from the gentleman at our table who ate every last bite. We had a 5pm reservation and were seated within 1 min of walking through the door, I really can't say more about this place except that I can't wait to go back. The building is beautiful and nostalgic; it was quirky and fun. The menu was upscale down-home, very much like Baltimore city itself. Our reservation was pretty early so we finished early, but did not feel rushed to leave. Service, food, and food presentation were excellent. My seat was a little gross - cushion all ripped up - but the ambience and decor were artsy and enjoyable. We got there early to see if there was an open table. There wasn't, but the hostess was very friendly and went out of her way to apologize and try to make sure we made the play on time. Great service! We were late for our reservation because of traffic problem on 495 and called ahead. They were great at holding our reservation, seating us quickly and helping us to order from the menu to insure that we were not late to the play. The atmosphere was very upbeat, the food very good and the service terrific.
