We loved this place. Everything on the menu is share-only, the wonderfull waitress explained that we needed 2-3 items per person. We tried the fried bok-choy: WoW!!!! Citrus salad: fresh, nice combination with caramelized fennel. Rabbit stew: best ever. Burger: ok but don't understand all the fuzz about the burger. It's actually a bit salty, meat is fine though, but there are so many nice things on the menu that Į would skip the burger. Everything is perfect here if you're looking for a comfy night out!

Shareable small plates is the way to go here. The sugar pumpkin salad was a hit, pasta-like in appearance, very refreshing. We tried the chicken fried rabbit and each loved our bite, the skate and vluefish were both delicious. Get there early to ensure availability of the burger of the day- well worth it.

I took my husband to Alden & Harlow for his birthday and noted that in my reservation. We had a nice drink at the bar and then moved to a table, where we had really good food. As the restaurant filled up, the noise became unbearable--hard to even have a decent conversation or focus on the food. I had to remind the server to put a candle on my husband's dessert--it didn't look like she even knew we were celebrating his birthday. The bread pudding dessert came with a candle but tasted awful. They took both the dessert and our drinks off our bill. When I mentioned the noise, they said it was quieter in the front part of the restaurant. This was our first time in the restaurant, not at the bar. Why didn't they tell us that before, especially since they knew we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I love the food, but the noise makes it impossible to enjoy and the service is impersonal.

Alden and Harlow is relatively new to Harvard Square. I came as part of three couples who regularly eat meals together and this was my suggestion. As a die-hard Henrietta's Table aficianado I had some trepidation about A&H, having only eaten rather spicy dinner food there. But in a word it was wonderful. Eggs, pancakes, wonderful pastry, great drinks - everything was top notch. We are definitely coming back here.

We have been wanting to get to Alden and Harlow for a long time, and finally made it on Sat, 11/15. Our group of four was seated immediately, and our server soon followed with his query re bottled/tap water. One member of our party ordered a special drink and really enjoyed it; the rest of us enjoyed our wine choices. With a little assistance, we ordered a good variety of dishes. As usual with tapas, the dishes arrived in random order—but each was well-prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious. Each of our final dishes was served in tandem with the others. The food is innovative and delicious. Our server was attentive without being too present. Our only complaint is the noise. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, and for some reason, the noise level is at a constant high in this section. Each of us was hoarse from trying to speak loud enough for the others to hear.As we left the restaurant, we realized that it was a bit quieter in the bar area. If we return, I will definitely ask for a table in this section.

I was so excited to get a reservation that I didn't mind going at 5:15 on a Saturday. At this time I would've expected higher quality service. Also towards the end of our meal it was apparent they wanted to turn our table over because the server staff was like vultures hovering over us. The food was amazing - especially the lamb ribs. I would give this place a 2nd chance based on the food alone, however I will try the bar area next time.

Kale salad and broccoli with squash hummus was delicious. Portions were surprisingly large. Lamb belly was tasty and well cooked but too much fat. Wine and cocktails were great and the bartenders were terrific. Only disappointment was that they ran out of the burger. We sat in the bar because it was quieter than the other half of the I look forward to returning to try other dishes. . Food was interesting and well prepared.

The menu is full of delicious and interesting options... very hard to decide. They were out of a few things so that helped narrow down the choices. We ordered 4 plates between the two people (plus a yummy dessert) and we were both quite full by the end. Stand outs for me were the honey-glazed burrata and heirloom eggs with bocquerones. The chicken fried rabbit was delicate and delicious too. Next time, I'll skip the lamb ribs and try the snails. On the downside, the room was very smoky and I carried the smell with me for the rest of the night.

This was truly an unexpected pleasure. With an array of small plates, I am often disappointed in one or two. That was not the case at Alden and Harlow. Each plate was more creative and delicious than the last. Can't wait to return. My only criticism is that the desserts do not stand up to the rest of the menu. Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives for sweets in Harvard Square.

A&H has become quite popular -- don't even think of coming without a reservation, which you'll need to make well in advance. The menu is inventive and the food is expertly prepared. Thanks to the tapas format (they recommend ordering 2-3 items per person which is about right), things can get very expensive very quickly, but what you get is generally worth the price.

I went to Alden & Harlow for the first time with 2 friends. It was a comfortable atmosphere to relax and enjoy in. Service was quite good. The food was interesting and tasty, but many of the dishes were oversalted. So much so that I came away with salt as the overwhelming after taste on my palate.

Service and food was great and one of a kind. Cozy but lively ambiance to the restaurant. They definitely have a creative and eclectic menu that would satisfy any foodie's needs. The only issues were that it was a bit smokey in the restaurant and more dimly lit than I would like.

We wanted to try the restaurant since it opened. We used to come here when it was Casablanca. We went for brunch so I can only comment on that. We ordered a croque Monsieur and it was not tasty. It said it comes with brioche bread but it came with a toasted bread. The wild mushroom frittata was shaped round rather than triangle which was interesting but it was overly salted. The vegetables that came with were crunchy but again super salty. They forgot to bring few items at the end but when they brought, they took them out of the bill which was a nice gesture. Everything also had a pork flavor even the dessert. I will try the dinner. I love the space and the decoration!

The food was definitely unique here. The chef is clearly a fan of salty sweet combinations - which is great but was overwhelming when it was super strong in almost all the dishes. The rabbit stew was great although both very sweet and very salty (which was phenomenal, loved this dish!). The broccoli was overly sweet as well. The ribs weren't but I think that because they were incredibly charred and fatty, which ruined any other flavors. The bread pudding was smokey, which was interesting and went well with the fantastic salted vanilla ice cream. The cocktails in the menu were good but ordering off menu resulted in drinks being made incorrectly, even after I checked if they could make it. Overall, interesting but overrated

The appetizers are great, especially the broccoli - enough to share easily. The mains are less exciting - the lamb was OK, nothing special; ditto for the bluefish. The tables are too small. Why are so many stuffed into the space? $$? This is the major issue. But still a gem of a new restaurant - just make it better. We'll keep coming back.

Consistently delivers on great food, amazing cocktails, and solid to wonderful service. It is becoming a regular spot in our rotation which we really look forward to coming to again soon - can't miss with the burger, onion dip, kale salad, and smoked chocolate bread pudding here - they are all perfect and wonderful. The sauces are so awesome I would appreciate it if they either offered bread (charge or no charge) along with the plates - if you ask and pay for it, you eventually get some kind of dry grilled bread, but it's way too late by then - the sauces are cold or gone! I bet they can make some killer bread here if they focus on it.

While the menu features a lot of meat entrees and no vegan ones, I was impressed at how knowledgeable and accommodating this restaurant is to vegans. I called ahead of time and the person who spoke to me understood my question fully and told me exactly what could be made vegan. When we got there, I found they had even made a note of it with our rsvp. The waiter again went through the menu with me and helped me with several options, including ensuring that the dishes were prepared with EVOO instead of butter, etc. Most impressive of all was dessert--while nothing on the dessert menu was vegan, the waiter consulted with the chef and they prepared a special dessert for me that included dark chocolate and fruit. Great job, Alden and Harlow!

After two visits to Alden and Harlow my wife and I agree that this restaurant is a new favorite of ours. The food that we've tried has been uniformly delicious, inventive and interesting and great fun for sharing. On the first visit we shared four of the small plates offerings. Everything is in proper size for sharing or snacking with one exception. If you wanted to order the A&H hamburger for a meal you'd be rewarded and well satisfied afterward. The burger is an 8oz patty with pickles and slaw and a collar of crispy-griddled cheese and a mound of homemade potato chips. We've also gone with a friend and enjoyed trying six different plates. Recommendations: burger; clams with smoked pig tails; roasted beets; fried rabbit.

First time here, really delicious food, can't wait to go back and try more! All plates are not quite small plates, not quite full meals. For 2 people we had a "snack" and 3 plates. Highly recommend the pistachio crusted cheese snack, the Clams and the pork belly. Something was wrong with the skate wing, really mushy and fishy, might have just been a bad piece, not too worried about it. Drinks were really inventive and tasty, would love to try coming here just to work through their cocktail list! They serve food until 2 on the weekends which is pretty awesome.

Had my birthday dinner at A&H 3 nights ago. I love tapas style eating. We ordered 6 tapas + the burger of the day to share. The burrata was out of this world (I grew up in Italy + go back a lot so I know what great burrata tastes like!). The burger and rabbit were also really, really great, true to prior reviews. The bluefish was good but not at the level of the prior items mentioned, and the bok choy was sooo salty several us wouldn't eat it. Cocktails were all great. The atmosphere is fun, vibrant but loud. I enjoyed it even though there were moments it was hard to hear the person across from me due to a particularly loud table next to us; not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. I will definitely go back for great food + fun!

Went here for a late dinner, ambience is dark but comfortable. Noise levels can be on the loud side, but I wasn't bothered by it. Unfortunately our server was unattentive and a bit brisk, made no attempt at conversation and couldn't provide any information on the food or wine list other than what was already on the menu. Stick to the specials, other plates were not as good. We tried the chicken-fried rabbit and I was disappointed that it's a square shaped chunk of tough meat over-breaded in panko. I was confused if they were actually trying for a tempura. However I was impressed with the pumpkin salad, the squash is in strings almost like pasta, very creative. Overall a decent restaurant but for the price I would probably skip it.

I had a fantastic experience at Alden and Harlow. First off, the ambiance was perfect. I was a little skeptical because it was in a basement, but it was a nice large space with a great relaxed but polished feel. The noise level was low enough that you could have a conversation without yelling but not silent as is the case in some restaurants. The service was friendly and informative, not pretentious at all. I had an amazing cocktail that had beet juice and vodka! Right up my alley. We also tried the "secret burger," the honey glazed burrata and the farm corn cakes, all above par. I immediately recommended it to several people and will certainly be returning. Well done Alden and Harlow, well done.

We tried six dishes and every one of of them was good. Stand outs: 1) bok choy with 60 degree egg, crispy veggies and salty to perfection, 2) Burgers, calorie bomb but not so bad if shared, 3) the fig dish, because I love anything with figs. The only downsides were that when we got there, the restaurant was kind of smoky.
