A word from Alchemy Speakeasy
In 1920, the Volstead Act was passed in an attempt to banish alcohol
from American life. The result was a vast movement of scofflaws who flouted the unpopular act, seeking out illegal means to acquire and sell the "sinful spirits" that were a major part of American culture. During this time, outlaw drinking establishments called speakeasies began to appear throughout America's major cities. The proprietors of these establishments relied on secrecy and guile to hide their operations. They often featured unmarked entrances, secret doors, or basement locations far from the prying eyes of the public. We offer artisan cocktails created by our master bartenders using fresh, local ingredients, tailor-made to your tastes.
Alchemy is available for private events Sunday - Wednesday. Please contact the restaurant for more information.

The atmosphere was great with a very interesting concept but it was just too expensive for what you get. The drinks are expensive and take a while to make. Out of the 9 drinks ordered by our table of 4 only about 2 were good enough for the price. We also did not fully understand the rationale behind kicking customers out because of their 2 hour time limit when over 3/4 of the bar was empty. Overall it was interesting and a great concept and if someone is interested in trying something different it is worth it just for the experience. However, I have no interest in going back.

Great drinks, a little pricey though. I was with a large group, so we all had to sit at the bar. I would recommend going on special occasions, calling ahead and having no more than 8 in a group.

We enjoyed the ambiance and had no problem adhereing with the dress code, however, the dress code was not enforced. We saw people wearing jeans and shorts. It defeats the purpose of a dress code.

Like a Disney ride for adults, this little gem of a bar is quite appealing to someone looking for an unusual experience in Tallahassee. It really is like a speakeasy from the 1920's. The drinks are pricey and they don't enforce the dress code, but that hasn't stopped us from going twice.

Alchemy is a quiet little Tallahassee secret. Modeled after a Prohibition Speakeasy, this little bar has top notch mixologists and a good selection of top shelf liquors. While not selling food, Alchemy is capable of providing a beverage to suit almost anyone's tastes. Take advantage of the knowledge of the bartender and have them surprise you with a concoction based on a description of what you have a flavor for. Highly recommended for first date, date, or drinks with friends. The environment lends itself well to quiet conversations.

I finally made it to Alchemy, it was very cool and the cocktails were amazing. I was slightly disappointed when we were sat across from a gentleman in jeans, a sports t-shirt and sneakers. It's not that I minded him there, it's that he stood out and when every time I looked up from my table to watch drinks being made, there was that bright t-shirt. My other disappointment was that I was told by friends who went previously that I would be served an aperitif, a sort of palate cleanser. No such thing came. I love that extra special detail and these make you and keep you unique and special. Overall, it was a great experience. I would love to come back with some live, chill music playing softly.

Loved the idea of a speakeasy and the mini tour of dress code and rules, but not every one was following them. There was a noisy group that made it difficult to hear across the table and then a group was allowed in wearing shorts and flip flops. If you're going to have a dress code then you need to enforce it. If you ask your customers to speak easy, then again, enforce it. The place will quickly turn into just another bar if you allow it to. It's a great gem and hope it stays that way. We plan on bringing our grown children when they are in town next week. Hope it's a better experience.

I have been to Alchemy several times and always really enjoyed it, but this last time was a let down. Not only was the music terrible (and not speakeasy themed at all), but the service (although friendly), was nothing like the devoted storytelling that I experienced there after they had just opened. I'm afraid this place has gotten too popular to retain the charm it once had. The prices were reasonable when the atmosphere was as divine as the drinks are, but since the atmosphere is gone, it feels really overpriced.i have always recommended it to friends, but I'm not sure i will anymore.

Two nights ago was my first visit to Alchemy, and it definitely won't be my last! I visited with my roommates, and we all ordered different drinks so we could sample each other's selections. My favorite by far was the Pimm's Ginger cocktail, a citrusy-sweet blend of ginger and orange flavors. The service was great-- attentive but not overbearing, and we got complimentary homemade potato chips to munch on. There was also a cello and violin duet that played upbeat but classy tunes, perfectly completing the atmosphere! In all, it was a fun change of pace from the typical bar scene. I look forward to returning soon!

The atmosphere is fantastic! It's tasteful and quiet, which is great for conversing with friends, as opposed to being in a loud bar/club where you have to shout at people. The drinks are awesome and kept to theme! Downside is that service is slow. It takes a while to get your drinks after ordering, but you are warned of this in advance. Wish they had options for food, just some light snacks or something. Overall, it's a fun place to go! Quite an experience!

This is a must visit place. The theme of a 20's era speakeasy is found throughout from the hidden entrance and exits to the house rules. The drinks are meticulously made and are very well balanced. The list of liquors is quite impressive with many super premium selections that are not found in the average bar. I will definitely return.

I am a vodka drinker and prefer drinks that don't taste like alcohol, so I was a little concerned about finding a drink I would like. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful in suggesting drinks I might like. The drinks were phenomenal and strong, but well worth the price. The whole speakeasy experience was so much fun and romantic. We were there for my boyfriend's birthday and it ended up being a perfect evening as we both enjoyed everything. I would definitely go back!

My husband and I wanted to do something fun for our 6 month anniversary, but as newlyweds we have a super tight budget. After much debate, we ended up deciding to visit Tallahassee, visit some friends and family and make a fun weekend out of it. Plus, I was dying for an opportunity to check out this new speakeasy we'd been hearing all about! We were thoroughly impressed with the quiet but energetic bar environment (such a contrast to the loud, often obnoxious environment of the Filling Station), superb drinks and friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. The service cannot be beat; the bartenders spend one-on-one time with you discussing flavors and drinks of preference to create a custom, delicious cocktail. Ask for Nate! Such a kind dude.
