Alchemy Restaurant and BarBetter Living Through AlchemyMy friend and I made our first visit to Alchemy after sampling a couple of their appetizers at our local Taste of Ashland art/food festival. Short story - the best fine dining experience I've had in many years! We shared a moist, delicately-flavored crab cake first course, followed by salads. She had the Chef's Vegetarian Plate (tasty veggies artfully presented!), I had the Halibut accompanied by...umm....my sincere apologies to the chef and any readers - I was too busy savoring the flavors to take notes. Our server was knowledgeable about the food /wine choices, friendly and attentive. The setting (mint condition grand old hotel: high ceilings, plenty of room, large windows looking out on gardens) was perfect. Beef Wellington sliders ok, but 2 for $12 seems pricey. House charcuterie plate: We both liked the rabbit confit, the pork belly rillettes, so so, the shaved duck ham was very smoky flavored. I had the spinach and frisee salad with grilled pancetta which I thoroughly enjoyed. The soup of the day was a pea soup with truffle oil which was fabulous and I normally do not eat pea soup. The Duroc pork chop was cooked to perfection and the sauce was great. My wife had the stuffed quail and thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert I had the deconstructed lemon meringue pie, which was ok but a bit too sweet for my taste.
