Only 10 tables, all food prepared fresh on the spot & outstanding. Service...outstanding. If I lived in Brooklyn,I'd be there a couple of times a week.

  • Even better the second time around!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 8/26/2012
This is my second time at Alcatraz and I'm just as impressed now as I was the first time I dined there. The seafood is fresh, the homemade juices are robust, the service is exceptional, and the food is wonderful. Was so disappointed to read negative reviews on that Other site! Perhaps they went to a different place? This restaurant is a cut above. If you love authentic Mexican cuisine you will love Alcatraz.

If you're in the hood, it's worth trying this place but it's nothing special. The tamales are good as are the chips and salsa/guacamole. The beans and rice were awful - no flavor, terrible texture. The restaurant is tiny, only 5 or 6 tables which you'd think would mean better service but the service was just adequate. Perfunctory but not great.

Very small and no air conditioning. Food was okay, but menu seemed aggressive for the one cook we could see through the window separating the restaurant from the kitchen.

Authentic Mexican food, excellent service. The owner of the restaurant is very friendly, came over and introduced himself to my boyfriend and I. This restaurant is a gem and if you love real Mexican cuisine like I do you will love this restaurant.

Food was great! Had the shrimp enchilada's...not to be missed. The restaurant is low key and relaxing. Will be back again. What a terrific local spot.

  • Very nice salad, queso fundido
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Very nice salad, queso fundido app, tacos, and juice beverages. Tamales were a bit bland and server's hovering over us (even taking plates out from under my elbow as I was reaching for other dishes, twice) detracted from the experience.but as California transplants always looking for decent fresh Mexican food around here, we will be back.
