Diner Reviews
  • "Visited Alba for Brunch on Sunday and brought along my large dog. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating! They immediately brought him a big bowl of water and checked-in on him several times to see if he needed more since it was a hot day. Highly recommend for dog owners!"

  • "Alba Osteria is a new restaurant that opened up near my apartment--so I recently went to check it out. The overall experience was fine--but given the prices--there was much to be desired. The service was poor: it took 15 minutes for a server to attend to us after being seated and he never brought us bread. The food was fine, but nothing spectacular. I don't believe I'll return since the prices didn't match the quality of the food or the service. If I'm going to spend a reasonable amount on a restaurant, I expect a lot more."

  • "Stopped in on a Friday night; pizza was AWESOME and the wine selection is fabulous. Really liked that they had a chef's bar as well. Really enjoyed the experience"

  • "My experience was 5 star besides my interaction with the flustered hostess at the front of the house. Besides that, the food came out perfectly cooked in a timely manner, the server conversed with us and kept our mimosas filled. I was truly impressed by the decor and ambience of the place. It was busy for brunch so I'm glad I made a reservation. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "The food was great, but the only thing good about my brunch experience was the food. Our waitress could not have been more forgetful or unattentive. They could only find one menu for our table of two. 3/4 of our food did not come, and the waitress was nonchalant and unapologetic about this. We practically had to chase her down to get our food. Hoping for a regular top-off on bottomless drinks? No such luck here. My glass sat empty a lot. If I was seated in that waitress' section again, I would run for the hills. Shame, because the food is so good. I may give it another try, but if the service is bad again I won't be patronizing this business anymore. Live music was nice but we were by the band so it was loud and it was hard to talk over."

  • "The food was good but the very poor service completely detracted from it: 1) the host made guests wait while he took a personal call; 2) a waiter sat down with a table of 4 young women and proceeded to have a very loud flirtatious conversation with them; 3) one of our party ordered the additional foie gras. It was supposed to be added to the pasta dish but wasn't served until the very end of the meal on a separate plate on its own (we were still charged); 4) the servers clearly had no idea what the dishes on the menu were and had no idea of what they were serving and who they should serve it to; 5) no one offered to tell us the specials until I asked if there were any. And on and on. I would definitely not return. Complete amateur hour."

  • "Very good food and reasonable prices. Similar to Al Dente, with some defferences. One objection: only italian wines available."

  • "Alba Osteria has a unique and interesting menu. We loved the fritters (eggplant, potato, and cauliflower). Our pizzas were cooked perfectly and they were very tasty. Our waiter was very attentive and knew the menu well. The ingredients were fresh and high-quality. The bar was very loud on a Friday night. It looked like a great place to be, but trying to talk to a friend over dinner was a bit difficult at times. The food was very good. We'll be back."

  • "Excellent pizzas at an afordable price in a nice location. Great service."

  • "Eclectic menu. The half portions of pasta are great for sharing we sampled 4 between the 3 of our party and it was just enough. Pizzas are great. Exclusively Italian wine list. Service was very attentive without being pushy. Monday and Tuesday are half price bottle nights which is a great value."

  • "We really wanted our second experience at this neighborhood restaurant to be different, but sadly, it wasn't. The servers were friendly - absolutely. But upon ordering, they immediately told us 'no substitutions allowed' at brunch. For someone with Celiac disease, a request to hold off on the bread is hardly a substitution. The food was served cold, the portions were small (the side salad looked like it was garnish, the ketchup for fries - which we had to ask for twice - barely filled 1/4 of a shot glass,no joke) but most of all, nothing was particularly tasty. We had to ask for forks, knives and plates. Things were just off. And, even though the waitstaff was nice, their niceties couldn't make up for a bad meal, twice in a row."

  • "Loved the weekend brunch which lets you try unlimited food and drinks from the menu--lots of good choices, including great pizza!"

  • "Great cocktail recommendation from the bartender--rye and a ginger liqueur. It was new enough not to have a name. Great food, except dessert which was decidedly disappointing."

  • "We loved this place! We had wood fired Pizza. It was the best I've had. The staff was so friendly! Such attention to detail! The decor was electric ! The Bar was loud. We sat by the window. We would go back in minute! The brunch sounds good."

  • "The restaurant is very big, food is interesting (regional Italian cuisine from Piemonte), portions are small, but not outrageously small. As an Italian, I appreciated the selection of regional dishes, the menu is very distinct from the other Italian restaurants in DC. "Salumi & Formaggi" are of best quality. Great variety of nice and creative appetizers. "Mezzelune" are simply delicious, so is the "Filetto alla piemontese". "Cannelloni", are kind of boring. Go for the half portions of pastas, so that you can try more. Desserts: Polenta Bianca and Frittelle di Mele are the winners! "Torta Gianduia" also good. Don't bother about "Salame di cioccolato". The only down note is about the service: too speedy for me..."

  • "The food was very good. I had the rabbit, we shared a vegetarian pizza and my companion had the lasagna. This place is LOUD."

  • "I took a client to Alba Osteria for luch recently. The food was terrific and the staff was attentive, while still allowing us to talk freely without interruption. We lingered for about a half hour after finishing our meals and were not rushed out as some restaurants might do. There is a nice variety of food from pastas to salads."

  • "My family dined here on a recent snowy Sunday evening. The ambiance was fresh and modern, but warm and inviting, and service was attentive. The Mezzaluna pasta dish--hay infused, with burata cheese--was simply the best pasta I've had in recent memory. We love that there are half-portions of pasta, which allow sampling. The wood-fired pizza was great, as were all the other dishes we tried. (the gnocchi were light, and the creamy chicken soup had big chunks of chicken). The polenta we tried for dessert on a whim--essentially a white polenta "brulee"--was a delightful end to a great meal. My husband also noted the (unexpectedly) large selection of craft brews on tap. All in all, a true "local gem" for folks in Mount Vernon Triangle."

  • "This was our third time at Alba, and this time we brought guests. Excellent service from Ben, as always, and the food never disappoints. Whether you want a casual night of great pizzas or a fancy night with a bunch of small plates, Alba fits the bill. Great place."

  • "This is a great addition to the DC food scene! The food is terrific - kudos to Chef Amy Brandwein! The service is great and there's just a great feel to the place. I'll be back regularly!!"

  • "The food was excellent. The dishes are authentic Italian and many I have never seen on a menu before. Many are from the Piedmonte area of Italy. Finally our service was excellent. Everyone from the waiter to the manager was very attentive."

  • "The gelato and gnocchi were the menu standouts. The night I went they had scallops as the special and they were very flavorful and tasty. The service was very attentive and it was also nice to see the chef come out and talk to staff and guests. I will be back!"

  • "I must say that the food was good. Our server (Paul) was great. The only problem was that all the food was served almost at the same time. The kitchen should have better timing. Pizza, appetizers and main entree were at the table at the same time."

  • "We were seated next to the deafening live music at brunch, negating the possibility of conversation or even hearing our waiter. The very limited brunch menu seemed geared to followers of the Atkins Diet, heavy on eggs and meat and light on vegetarian-friendly options."

  • "After reading about this restaurant on Urban Daddy, our brunch group was excited to try it out. We were disappointed from the moment we say down. If the only thing you care about is mediocre unlimited food and booze, this might be the brunch for you. When our food came out, the looks of it alone were disappointing. We gave it the benefit of the doubt until we tasted it. I returned my dish, the egg white frittata and salad (which appeared yellow and out of a bag). The girls ate their pizzas and shared with me because no effort was made to correct my order or get me something else. The peach Bellini was nice."

  • "This place has real potential to be a shining star on the D.C. restaurant scene, but the sevice is disoprganized and unsophisticated. The good food deserves better."

  • "We went on Valentine's Day which might have contributed to our feeling that we were hustled in and out, and also the terrible location of our table. The drinks were excellent. The food was decent. Some parts I thoroughly enjoyed others missed the mark a little. Overall, for V-day a disappointment, but on a regular night could be very nice."

  • "Food itself was good. At first things were okay til I looked to my right and could see the difference in service they were getting from a different server and to my left was getting better service from the same server. We didn't get any free bread (which would've been great with my first course- soup). Everybody else got free bread and it was blatantly obvious that we didn't have any especially when we had our soup.I had already finished the soup when I realized it.I asked the waitress why we didnt get any and she brought me a bread basket (too late). The basket had about half the amount of bread everybody else got if not less. 2.Water wasn't free and we weren't told. 3.Didn't offer coffee, offered it to the couple nxt to us. and more."

  • "Went for Valentine's Day with my wife. Food was excellent. Wine selection seemed great (I don't know enough to really judge). Waitress was very nice. The chef was very friendly and wished us a Happy Valentine's Day. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "This was a really exceptional dinner. We were a group of 7 and ordered pretty much everything on the menu. It all came promptly and impeccably served. Everything we tried was excellent (and there was a lot of sharing, as the menu is meze-style), but cauliflower Cavour, gnocchi, cannelloni, scallops and crostini stood out. Also the cheese/salumi platter was spectacular. The service was fast and courteous, the area around the bar was hopping. We also liked the warm colors of the otherwise modern industrial décor and the open-fire oven. Great experience! We'll be back!"

  • "While our food was great (although not so many options for vegetarians) the service was kind of lousy. I was offered sparkling water upon being seated, but it took two more requests to receive it. In the meantime, the other diner with me received tap water AND her wine. Our waitress, while nice, paid more attention to what looked like a VIP table (judging from the chef from the kitchen checking in on them) than us. There aren't that many non-bar tables, and we were sandwiched into a section of two tops VERY close together. Overall, the food was good, place was noisy, and service was lousy."

  • "Though there are some kinks to work out given how new the restaurant is, the food and ambiance was great. The space is multi-functional; great for parties, dinner, lunch, or just for a drink at the expansive bar. I would highly recommend Alba Osteria."

  • "Bar staff was chaotic when we arrived , three of them, though the bar was less than half full. The guy that came over eventually was nice and helpful. We ate many items and most were quite good. The two pizzas had nice toppings but the dough was too thick and the pizzas were not crisp."

  • "The food was delicious, but my party's greatest criticism was that there were too many people waiting on us. Staff were constantly around our table clearing plates and silverware (we ordered several small plates and had our places cleared 3 times). Multiple people were taking our order, which became confusing. The food is worth it though. I would recommend it and am likely go back."
