They printed a menu that said "Happy Birthday Pearl" for my mom's birthday, gave her a free birthday dessert with a candle after our main courses, and also gave her a free box of chocolate truffles. Amazing!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!This is my second visit to Alan Wong's and it delivered again! This time I brought friends and we all agreed that it was a culinary experience! The whole tomato salad is extraordinary and the fish was cook perfectly. My friend had the spare ribs and mashed potatoes and we all share bites.....so good! Our waiter Mr Yamaguchi was so knowledgeable about each dish and was extremely attentive. You cannot go wrong here. The views towards the mountains are wonderful as well. The sauces were good to wonderful as each dish presented a different flavor. The short ribs was outstanding! This place was absolutely fantastic. We ordered the "tasting of the classics" six-course menu with wine pairings, and every dish was great, as were the pairings.
We had eaten at Morimoto the previous night and there truly was no comparison. At Morimoto the best dish was the sushi, with the other dishes executed competently. At Alan Wong's every dish was truly exceptional; I don't think I've had a lobster dish that good in years. While Morimoto would be a middle-of-the-road restaurant at best in my home city (Toronto), Alan Wong's would easily be up in the top tier.

First of all, we were treated to the best table in the house, a two-top right in front of the window overlooking Honolulu and the distant green mountains. We enjoyed everything we ordered and it was all served in a most colorful and pleasing presentation. Standouts were the ginger onaga fish entree and the shrimp and mango salad appetzier served atop a tomato granite which really painted a colorful dish. The coconut sorbet with tropical fruits served in an edible chocolate coconut is also one of Alan Wong's signature desserts and it was a winner also. Service was attentive, food was delicious, great menu selections. Sauces paired well with the entrees. Great wine selection although would prefer some more reasonably priced wines, especially sauvignon blanc. Seafood entrees fresh, tender, nicely prepared. Short ribs tender, excellent. Good size portions. Enjoyed dessert. Water glasses refilled promptly. Special attention given to the birthday guests along with small gift box of chocolate macadamia nuts. Highly recommend. We try to visit each time we visit Oahu (from the East Coast.).5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstanding!i seriously love this place. we started with the opihi shooters which is a different variation of oysters shooters and they were amazing, a bit tiny but good. the spicy ahi lumpia was alright, but the entrees made up for it. i had the five-spice pork chop and it was delicious, it was savory with a hint of sweetness to it while my date had the ginger crusted onaga. we finished dinner with the pineapple shave ice which has a panna cotta and dehydrated pineapple topped with a shaved ginger, vanilla, and pineapple concoction. the lilikoi creme brulee was amazing, layered with tapioca on the bottom it was truly magnificent. service was outstanding and we were checked up on multiple times. this is a restaurant you need to visit at least once.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulously fullOur experience at Alan Wongs was fabulous! Not only was the food impeccable, the service was stellar and most of all very kind and respectful. I dined with an out-of-town friend I had not seen for 6 years. We sat and ate from 5:30p - 9:00p. We didn't realize we were there that long. The place was obviously busy and there had been 3 sets of diners that sat next to us. However, the waiter never rushed us, never bothered us, but was always available if we wanted or needed anything else. I was disappointed not to find a time before 9:15 during our entire week's stay! I thought I'd call the restaurant once we arrived in Oahu. The restaurant beat me to it. They called my cell to confirm our visit and they were able to offer a few earlier times on several other days. So nice! He used very unusual ingredients and the staff was very familiar with them. We had a problem with a dish and they removed it from the bill.
