  • "The only reason why I give this 4 stars is because of the service. The food was great! I loved every bite! The service was good all the way until waiting to pay for the bill. I waited at least 30-40 minutes from when they last checked on us, until the bill came. I think it was great to give us time to enjoy the restaurant...but could we at least pay, so that I could hang around leave when we are ready to? Rather than feel like someone forgot about us and left us waiting for the bill?"

  • "The food was so creative and delicious at the same time. It was refreshing to read a menu that was so innovative and did not contain the same ole items that so many restaurants (even those from celebrity chefs) are prone to have. The Kalua pork in Da Bag is memorable (the most flavorable Kalua that I have ever had). I was blown away by the entire dining experience. All the staff was super nice, friendly and knowledgeable (they walked us through the menu and knew the ingredients. They brought plates for us to share dishes (without our having to ask). I found this to be very accommodating. Wish all restaurants had this kind of customer pleasing attitude."

  • "We had the "Classics" Prix Fixe meal. Perfect for first timers. The course selections were great. Beautiful dessert presentation and very tasty."

  • "We have had the smaller tasting menue for USD 125.--/ person incl. wine pairing. Food excellent - lousy service! While having the second course, the waiter already set knife and fork for the third course on the table. I had not finished my 3rd course, when the waiter took away the plate of my wife. There is absolutely no, I mean no atmosphere in the restaurant - too many tables similar to a McDonalds restaurant. We are used to eat and drink in top restaurants worldwide - but such a service and an overcrouded atmosphere never happened to us. Due to this bad service and loud and noisy restaurant we cannot recommend this to our friends, despite the fact that the food was excellent. Alan Wong, reduce the seats by 25-30!"

  • "Res : 745pm. Hostess sat us down close to our res time n server apologized tt we had to wait. Svc was gd but we ordered d romaine salad but server did not put tt in. Ord seafd cakes and lobster agedashi for appetizers. D seafd cakes were gd n my hubby liked d salsa/fennel on top, but d agedashi was plain. Also, d flavor of d bonito flakes were overwhelming tt d tofu n lobster pcs were overshadowed by d sauce n condiments around it. There were also bits of cheese baked bread which were v hard in texture. Ord d ribs n seafd stew as d main. Our boy had d grilled fish (initially ordered d tempura fish but they were all out of batter) Kid's meal was v salty. Entrees were ok. Dessert, pineapple shave ice (sour n mushy) & d coconut (gd)"

  • "I, at first, thought that this was going to be another run of the mill Japanese eatery, offering generic sushi with a little added spice. I, however, was pleasantly surprised. It food is delicately prepared with enough tenderness and flavor to thrust you off your seat, fleeing into the kitchen to hug the chefs. Seriously, it was good. The ambiance could use a little spice, but the food is perfect. Decent wine list too."

  • "It has been a while since I have dined at Alan Wongs. It is always a special occasion. The food and wait staff were terrific as always. Best recommendation is to get the early seating and enjoy the really quiet and intimate environment."

  • "One of the very best dining experiences I have ever had! Every dish was perfect--beautifully presented, great taste, interesting combinations. If you are in Honolulu, do not miss out on the chance to dine here."

  • "Want to love this place but it needs a shake up . Service is professional and attentive. Nice ambience. Wine list is weak. 50 dollar wine ( meaning 15 at your wine store )or hundreds. All and I mean all our food arrived cold. The restaurant was half full . Go figure"

  • "After years of living on Oahu and dining at virtually all highly ranked gourmet restaurants there is simply no rival to the dining experience at Alan Wong's. The only issue, and it's minor, is the size of the dining room. During this last meal my chair was so close to the chair of the person that sat at the next table that everytime a server squeezed between us there was a not unexpected jostling of my chair. Yet the spectacular food trumped this slight inconvenience. When visiting Honolulu every serious foodie must put this restaurant on their 'must do' list."

  • "Food was wonderfully prepared and service was attentive but I wouldn't go back or recommend due to over the top pricing. $12 cup of coffee, really??? When I spend nearly $400 for dinner I want to be completely awed, which we weren't."

  • "We are newbies to Oahu & had no prior knowledge of the local food scene but Alan Wong's name kept coming up & also happened to see him on a PBS documentary on a fresh local food trip to Japan & were impressed. We chose the venue for a special night out & were impressed by every aspect of the divining experience but the food overall was a knockout in terms of fresh, tasty, interesting combinations, inventive use of local ingredients & great service without being intrusive. Highly recommended to those interested in the new Hawaiian food palate & will definitely return. Come to Australia Alan!"

  • "This was one of the best meals I've ever had....I had the pokie stack for a starter, beet salad and red snapper as my entree. The flavors in all of the dishes were terrific. It was a super busy the night we dined, yet there was no delay in being served."

  • "I spent time preparing for our visit to this much talked about restaurant near Waikiki. We planned to go all out and have the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. Unfortunately the restaurant was already out of that option half way through the evening. I let our very excellent waiter talk us into having the taste of the classics menu. Now, if you have never gone through a Hawaiian food phase in your life, that really would be the perfect choice for you and yours. But my husband and I have already immersed ourselves in the tastes of the islands and prefer cleaner, less sauced up, fish and beef options in restaurants. I wish we had backed up and chosen something from the main menu instead of going with the tastes of the classics menu."

  • "This is what you call AMAZING food! We had the tasting menu with wine pairings ($125/person). It was incredible!!! If you're a foodie, PLEASE dine here. It is totally worth it. The service was top notch. The location was kind of random but that made it all the better!"

  • "We had a dinner reservation here last week with some not big expectations. But left with bad taste. Woozy service, empty cocktailglasses on the table during the whole dinner, empty wineglasses as well, enormous portions and unsalted. Feels like their best before date has passed, long time ago!"

  • "During our trip to Waikiki, we ate at many highly rated restaurants in the area and this was one of the best. Great food, great service, great atmosphere! I recommend this to any couple looking for a nice dinner out!"

  • "After we dined here I heard that this is where President Obama & his family always dine when on O'ahu. It was an excellent dining experience from start to finish. The food was well prepared, the wait staff were helpful, efficient & well informed. We will definitely return again."

  • "Arrived 45 minutes early and were able to be seated. Even though we were disappointed that the Chef's tasting menu were sold out, the Taste of the Classics was extremely enjoyable and represented, in our mind, a good sampling of what AW cuisine is all about."

  • "We made online reservations a week before. The staff at Alan Wong's made our anniversary dinner truly special! I was pleasantly surprised that the menu had been printed especially for us with a congratulatory note at the top! And staff had autographed it! The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations. Overall, it was a great experience!"

  • "Excellent cuisines made with fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. Presentation, appeal, taste and portion were great. Service was outstanding and fast, as hostesses, waiters, servers and busboys greeted you courteously, met you needs, and made you feel at ease. Desserts were divinely and deliciously prepared."

  • "Absolutely loved this restaurant. I wondered if it could really live up to the reviews I'd read; it certainly did. The staff was exceptional: friendly, informative, and helpful without any snootiness. We were so very glad that we had booked this dinner months ago once when we were making our vacation arrangements. Even the cab driver on the way to the restaurant told us what a well-liked place this was. I was only sorry that I had not booked an extra day in Honolulu so we would have had time to try the Pineapple establishment."

  • "Wow! That is the best way to describe eating at Alan Wong's. The service was excellent and professional but it is the food that is the star of the show. Everything on the menu combines unique flavors that pack a punch. The Kalua Pig bruschetta was superb and had a wonderful spice. The tenderloin duo was perfectly cooked and the chili sauce served with it was masterfully executed. Dessert was a wonderful delight of texture and flavor. Overall you will leave FULL and despite the size the portions are not skimpy. For those looking for a nicer diner in Honolulu you cannot go wrong here."

  • "I went to Alan wong's with my family to celebrate Father's Day. I had a horrible experience! We had a long wait. The food was commensurate with the restaurant's reputation, but the signature appetizer was significantly underseasoned. I could forgive this. But I could not forgive the arrogant attitude of the management and staff. I had saved more than half of my snapper entree to eat on the plane. They did not box my food, rather they threw it away. When I called the manager, he said he would check and call me. Never did. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS RESTAURNT DOES NOT APPRECIATE YOUR PATRONAGE. There is a tag team approach to serving that leaves you waiting alot. There are restaurants of better quality that value and appreaciate your patronage."

  • "We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, they seated us at the bar while they got our table ready, we sat at the bar for 30 minutes, I asked the hostess why other couples who showed up after us got seated before us...she stated they had 830 reservations and ours were for 845.. i showed her my reservations on my phone and she apologized and seated nus immediately...horrible and she was snaighty when she talked to me! Then we sat down and they have a almost 3 servers for each table, but it took almost 40 minutes before we could order any food or drinks, this place is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will never go back, my girlfriend took me for Father's day and we hated it!! They do not care about customer service!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • "I've several times used here. Everytime, the food is just I've expected. Especially, in this time, the sauce of Tomato salada is very good. The "KALBI" style steak and pink snapper also impress my tongue."

  • "An unassuming building leads to a hidden gem. Beyond the entrance is some of the most tasty looking dishes. We were seated in the main dining area. Tables are pretty close so its a cozy room; they have a lanai area which we only saw from distance. Menu items are plentiful and range from beef to chicken to fish and shellfish. Our seating time was at 8pm so the tasting menu was no longer available. We found the food to be delicious, the service to be impeccable and dining experience to be a wonderful memory maker. Would go again if opportunity arose. Special mahalo's to our wait person, Aaron, for an awesome night."

  • "Unfortunately the dishes lacked the finesse usually associated with Alan Wong's. I have dined here several times and always been impressed, yet this time the food was disappointing. The tomato salad was in a bath of syrupy sweet pink dressing. Even more disappointing were the lamb chops ($65 dish); the quality of the meat was acceptable and cooked properly, yet it was drowning in a sea of sugary sweet sauce, which completely ruined the meal. The best dish between both of our meals was a frozen dessert fashioned in the shape of a coconut. Chocolate shell with a delicate sorbet innards, the grain of the frozen treat mimicked the meat of a real coconut. Overall it was sloppy execution from a longtime favorite restaurant."

  • "We have been dining at Alan Wong's since 1996 when we lived in Honolulu. Now we visit once or twice a year, and the restaurant is consistently outstanding. The food is some of the best I have ever enjoyed. Try the tomato salad with li hing mui dressing. It's heavenly."
