A word from Alamo Square Seafood Grill
We specialize in fresh seafood in generous portions. Come and visit us on Wednesday evening when you can "Bring Your Own Wine" and corkage fees are waived. In the last eight years, we have become a neighborhood favorite for a delicious meal at a great price. When Michael Bauer reviewed us he said, "Good seafood value at Alamo Square." and "The owners of Alamo are veterans at offering good food at great value." as well as "Snapper, salmon, tuna, swordfish, and petrale sole are all priced at $13.50 for a generous half-pound portion. Even with nothing else on the plate, it would be a good deal, but when you add the myriad side dishes, it's astounding."Continued

  • "We ate at the Alamo Seafood Bar and Grill with a couple of friends. While none of the food was bad, I also wouldn't say anything was outstanding. The ambiance and service were both fine but I think you can find better restaurants in the city"

  • "Advertised as before/after opera/show events, it is a long 5-6 blocks from that district and the parking lot. For a restaurant specializing in seafood, the calamari fritti was more batter than calamari and we had to ask for more dipping sauce; the fish was overcooked, and mine was served with a béarnaise that was obviously reheated in the microwave and had the consistency of a pudding rather than a sauce; the owner/chef is very skimpy on all the sauces including the floating islands we had for dessert that should have been floating on English custard that was completely absent. When we asked for some, the waiter brought us the smallest container you have ever seen... Sorry to say that I have nothing to recommend about this place."

  • "Only one waitress for entire restaurant. Wine ordered from list was not the wine brought and opened yet the waitress did not bother to announce the substitution of a different vineyard and year."

  • "I have been to this restaurant many, many times and always enjoy coming back. I have introduced friends to it who have enjoyed it as much as I. This is a restaurant that does not break the wallet, because it has a great pre fix and well priced good specials. The food is always good and enjoyable."

  • "We dined here before the ballet mid-week. We were late for our reservation (bad traffic), but were happily accommodated. Service was friendly, and although there is no children's menu, they had a family friendly attitude. The salmon was perfect, seared tuna was cooked nicely. The risotto that came with the tuna was outstanding. Appetizer of calamari was light and tender. The owner and server were very friendly; the owner is charming. We could have used some more refills on the water, but that was the only negative. We will be back if we are in the neighborhood again."

  • "They are short-staffed, as evidenced by the "Help Wanted" sign in their window! So,if you ARE short staffed DO NO accept so many diners! We were in for 75 mins It took nearly an hour to get our main course, 15 minutes after seated for H2O and ordering. The head came over and I let him know that we had been there for an hour and were hungry! It would've been NICE to have been given a glass of wine on the house at that point. Many small things were forgotten- water re-filled, extra napkin etcFish was a bit overcooked- we heard the bells from the kitchen indicating ready plates but they were not picked up for at least 5 minutes- they were ours.I love this place when it early and staff is not so busy, so I hate to give a negative review..."

  • "The food was good, very cute place in a neighborhood. They were short staffed a server but the server did a great job getting us out in time for our other plans. I would go back."

  • "On a Saturday night in SF even with a reservation I expect a short wait, that was not the case. We were seated right when we got there at a comfortable table. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was great. They had a large wine selection with some very reasonably priced wine. Overall the experience was a good one and didn't put too big of a dent in my bank account. If you like French food, I would definetly recommend trying this place out."

  • "Portions were a good size for my husband and I, Salad was good and the trout with peppercorn sauce lovely. Floating island dessert was a nice finish. Coffee was good, wine selection reasonable. Very good dinner for the price."

  • "So glad we found this restaurant. The food was cooked perfect for everyone. Had friends from out of town and they all raved about Alamo Square. Will definitely go back. Great price on prixe fixe dinner!"

  • "I live in the neighborhood and have eaten there dozens of times over 15 years. The food is well prepared and the restaurant has a cozy nice atmosphere. Parking a block away makes it more convenient than most. If you're looking for a good meal at reasonable prices, check it out."

  • "Got there late because of SF traffic. They held my table! Helpful staff pointed out the seafood they could get out quickly. Which they did and it was VERY good. A little ways from the Opera house or Symphony, but Uber can have you back to either in 5 minutes for 7 bucks going right down Taylor. Not the most glamorous decor but VERY REASONABLE prices, especially when you consider the quality of the food."

  • "This cozy place was recommended by friends staying the weekend in Alamo Square. Our group of four made the trip up from Union Square and were rewarded with friendly, welcoming service. Excellent red snapper and veggies done to perfection and very nice wine list. Worth the trip!"

  • "The Valentine menu was Prix Fixe. It was overall very good. The soup and salad were fine, not outstanding, but the main course, rabbit, was perfectly cooked. Dessert was also very good. The owner/ maitre'd was very enthusiastic and that translates into genuine care for the customers."

  • "This is a cute and quaint little restaurant off the beaten path on a quiet street. We ate here for valentines day, so there were only two choices on the menu. We both chose the swordfish, and it was very good. All in all, I would definitely come here again. I liked that it was a quiet restaurant off from the touristy spots. The owner was very friendly."

  • "What can I say: neighborhood gem, good food, good service, good ambience, and quiet. It was fantastic, as always."

  • "This is a great neighborhood restaurant that offers a nice selection of seafood along with other standards. The prix fixe dinner is a remarkable value. Portions are moderate, neither skimpy nor excessive. However the specials seemed a little more generous. The swordfish was excellent, fish cooked perfectly, good size on a flavorful bed of risotto. Rib eye perfectly cooked, not the most tender cut, but a large portion for the price. Crab cakes were dry according to my friends, needed the accompanying lobster sauce, but I noticed no one left any on their plates. Service a little slow due to the small size of the restaurant and minimal staff, but we did get 8 people served between 5:30 and 7 for a 7:30 concert. Very friendly,if rushed, staff."

  • "We enjoyed the whole dining experience from start to finish. We went for my husbands birthday. Ordered the grilled shrimp ceviche for appetizer and it was delicious. And he menu has a fresh fish of the day and 4 different options of how it is cooked and the sauce on top. I ordered blackened snapper with beaurre blanc and loved every bite. Romantic atmosphere, weren't rushed at all. It had a European feeling of dining."

  • "Our overall experience was good. The food was great, the ambience was great, and the staff was great. Where Alamo failed was the timing. My family and I went to Alamo prior to watching Gisellle. We had a reservation. We were greeted/seated promptly. Our drinks and appetizers came out timely. It was our main course that took over 75 mins to be served to us. We had our 4 year old son who became a bit antsy waiting for his meal. We also ended up rushing to eat our meal so we could make it to the War Memorial on time. I strongly believe that service is the key to any meal, and although the the staff was great, having to wait for our meal and then rushing to eat it brought the experience down from great to good. BTW - I still tipped other 20%."

  • "SF offers an overwhelming number of options for dining, but this one may be my absolute favorite. Classy/romantic ambiance, delicious seafood, great service, and in a cute and (sort of!) historic neighborhood. I've brought friends here for special occasions, along with visiting family members from out of town. My boyfriend and I will go when we're in the mood for a nice dinner. I highly recommend the seafood soup."

  • "Nice service and people . The creme brulee was indeed a real one, not that kind of oversweet cream that distroys the taste of the original cream brulee. The soup was cery good and tasty. But the red snapper was average. Ambiance was non existing, we were the only clients on a friday evening, they told us it was due to the basket ball match.... Well other places could not take our reservation"

  • "Lovely Seafood, mostly French style. The chorizo mussels were unbelievable, make sure you ask for extra bread to soak up the leftover sauce. Service was very Laid Back (read: slow) so if that's the type of thing that bothers you or you have somewhere to be, save this for another night. Personally, we enjoy a more french style unhurried meal so it wasn't a problem. We took our kids (10 and 4) and they did great. There's no kids' menu so you'll have to either find something they like on the regular menu (ours split the seafood pasta) or they offered to make something off menu such as buttered noodles. It is definitely not a kid oriented restaurant, but it wasn't hostile either. Probably not a good choice for excitable toddlers."

  • "This is the third weekend in a row we have gone to the Alamo Square Seafood Grill. It was still a totally satisfying experience. We have entertained three other couples and they all want to return with us to eat there again. .Andre the owner, greets you at the door and makes you feel like you are a guest in his home. I can't recommend it enough."

  • "The food was very good. We tried the prix fixe deal, $14.50 for a 3-course dinner offered between the hours of 5:30-7.00 pm. It is such an incredibly good deal. We had mahi-mahi for the 'chef' choice' for the entree. The fish was well prepared and very fresh. Other offerings are also at a very reasonable prices. We will definitely go back to try the regular menu next time."

  • "We had a late dinner at this restaurant. We have hard time to find it and it was far from our hotel near Union sq., but it was worth the effort. Good, fresh seafood, very good service, excellent ambience, local people as clients. Will be back."

  • "We've been here twice. Both times had really good food, but patience is a prerequisite. At our first visit (1+ years ago) the sous chef quit that day. This time, a server didn't show up, and despite some hustle it was almost an hour until we got our entrees. But kudos to the guy who filled in as a server - he had never worked there before. Enough kvetching. We really enjoyed the food and were pleased with the final bill. I had trout and got a cajun treatment as chef's choice. My wife had the snapper on the prix fixe menu which is a really good deal if you like what they offer. Sides were simple (rice pilaf, winter veggies) but satisfying. Desserts were tasty and some are big enough to share."

  • "In such a modest looking space was surprised at the special care taken with the food. Had a stellar salad of butter lettuce with thinly sliced grannysmith apples and orange section, drizzled with a delicate dressing of olive oil and maybe lemon and vinegar. My son and I ordered meat dishes, probably unwisely as I'm sure the fish would have been a healthier and lighter choice. But the food and portions were very appreciated. ML"
