Noise level varied a lot - music was at times way too loud (in addition to the background noise in the restaurant). Service was acceptable - a little indifferent. Hostess was personable. Food was quite good, but just a shade too expensive.

We have been to Al Vento 3-4 times in the past 9 mos. taking friends with us. But, we have become disappointed that it is almost impossible to carry on a conversation at the table due to the very loud noise in the restaurant. We thought that maybe it was the back room that was too loud so this time we got a table in the front. It was just as loud. It is interesting to observe other diners who have to talk very loud to each other, which then makes more diners talk even louder making the whole room into a roar. We like the food, the service, and the ambiance would be terrific if something could be done to reduce the sound level. Unfortunately, until that is taken care of, we probably won't go back.

  • John Hunt did a spectacular

    Dined on 4/15/2008
John Hunt did a spectacular job of pairing his food with the wines from Cat and Fiddle. The only (and it was minor) negative was the Poached Pear dessert. The pear was underdone and almost impossible to cut with a spoon (the only implement left on the table). The taste was quite nice, but my wife's pear made it onto the floor while objecting to being cut. Regardless, we find it to be a truly wonderful little neighborhood bistro, and the addition of a full liquor license makes it even easier to recommend to friends.

I really enjoyed dinner at Al Vento. We had a reservation and still had to wait to be seated for almost 15 minutes, which was a bit discouraging. But we were able to get a bottle of wine while we waited and just enjoyed good conversation. Once at our table we were pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and atmosphere. We really felt like we were back in Italy! The food was great! I highly recommend the goat cheese and fennel sausage pizza. Delicious!

we were told that they had been slow prior to our arrival, so they let a few people go home. was kinda surprised that they would let people go home at 6:00 PM on a Friday evening....the placed was jammed packed at 6:45 when we got there, and the service turned out horrible because of it. Took us an hour to get our 2 meals, and once we were done eating, another half hour for them to bring us our check. we saw our waiter twice...the owner ended up bringing us our check. have been there before and service has been acceptable those times, but Friday night it was horrible...the Alaskan halibut was phenomenal though.

I thought I was not bothered by an incident that occurred but I find myself still rankled. An otherwise fine evening was spoiled by a missed communication. The bread followed by the starter was so filling that my companion and I could barely face our main course. I picked at my excellent lamb shank for a bit but did not manage even half of it before giving up. A lady other than our waitress picked up the two meals and asked if we wanted them boxed. We both said yes. Curiously, she only came back with my friend's. We waited. Nothing showed up. When I approached our waitress she went to investigate and found the food had been dumped. Over half the meal. I was shocked at the waste, and cost to me. I was offered an apology. I left.

This was the first time I've been to Al Vento that I've been disappointed. The waiter was very snooty and seemed not to have the time for us. We were a table of three and it was busy but not that crazy busy to deserve the attitude. The food was also mediocre this visit, I had some mussels that didn't taste fresh at all, very fishy and not very good. I also had a pear salad which was adequate. I hardly ate any of my mussels and the server did not inquire about any problems, probably because he didn't come back for 20 minutes. I also had a chocolate tart for dessert that was tasteless and terrible, which this sub-par dessert I was served and ice cold cup of coffee (supposed to be hot coffee). We also split the semi fredo which was good.

Heard positive things about this restaurant for years. Out of the way for us so we haven't tried it. My son and I were going to a movie in the neighborhood so we gave it a try. We both had pizza before the movie and loved it. Neopolitan was just the way I like it--thin, crispy crust, great flavor--one of the best I've tasted in this country! We both enjoyed the waitress--personable and helpful. I plan to make the 20 mile drive with my wife and try it again. Definitely one of the top neighborhood spots in town, maybe even a destination restaurant.

I have dined at Al Vento several times - the dinners have always been wonderful, from food to service. We recently had a Sunday brunch - (rated above) the food was good, the service was not. It's brunch - we would like some coffee, and a refill, too. To be fair, it seemend understaffed for the number of clients they had, especially with a large group in the back room. Note - the brunch buffet style works well if you have either a large buffet or few customers, but when the place is full, the buffet is over-whelmed, and the one cook (who was running out from the kitchen every few minutes to re-load) and the two floor workers were over-whelmed as well. I will quite likely return for dinner, but probably not for brunch.
