This was our second time eating here. The food is still delicious. We remembered the restaurant as it was down a flight of stair and it was located near the heart of Gastown. Service was challenged the night we were there but we were on vacation so it shouldn't have mattered. The cannelloni seafood and the pizza were terrific. The fresh seafood was was served beautifully and the red sauce had a special flavor. Would have enjoyed the early bird as we were with kids. Enjoyed the round tables.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Al Porto. The service was impeccable and our waiter offered us very good suggestions for appetizers, salads and entrees. The pizzas are define and have a thin crust and are baked in a wood fired oven. The wine list is lovely and the restaurant offers 3 oz. taster sizes, so I tried a couple new wines that I was curious about. They also make a wonderful sangria. We are never disappointed when we visit Al Porto's and highly recommend it.

The beet risotto was slightly undercooked and nothing special. I enjoyed the linguine vongole. Tiramisu was heavy on the marscapone where it tasted like cream cheese and cake a tad dry. Good value with groupon but wouldn't go out of my way.

I ordered the veal saltimbocca. The veal was paperthin and vastly overcooked, resulting in a leather-like appearance. Terrible meal. The waiter was very attentive and friendly, and the view was nice far away (mountains), but not so good nearby (railroad tracks). We had high hopes, but low results.

Al Porto continues to charm and give good value for money to a host of clients that keep coming back for well cooked, simple but good Italian food. The restaurant has a warm environment and pleasant decor. Service is always cordial, and service is never rushed. A great place for dinner; from groups to families.

We took a group from work there for dinner and truly enjoyed our drinks, the food and the service. The wines were excellent. We enjoyed a few of the appetizers, including the bruschetta, the meatballs on polenta, the calamari and the antipasto. It all tasted wonderful. The main courses were delicious and I would definitely go there again with a group or for a dinner for two.

Great Italian and local seafood! Waiters and staff strove to be their best. My three hungry kids (2, 4 and 5 year old) were treated excellent. Try the local fish with a local brew, and the Italian food is just how La Nonna would cook it!

We were on a stop over and the hotel recommended Al Porto. Good recommendation. The Osso Buco, recommended by Nate, was excellent. Spaghetti as one might expect was excellent. It was a "rainy" night so opinions are shaded by the weather. But this was a good choice.

I rarely write a bad review, but the food I had was really not good at all. I am allergic to gluten and follow a vegan diet where possible so when I made the reservation, I did so because it said they had gluten free options. Turns out they actually only have 1 gluten free option - fusilli pasta - but I could choose any sauce/topping combo I wanted. When the meals were all brought out, they gave me spaghetti with sauce and veggies. I asked if this was a gluten free pasta too; the server said "Oops. Glad you caught that" and took it away. Then he came back 3 minutes later with the gluten free option, but it was rushed and sloppy - the veggies were pretty much raw. If you don't do gluten free, that's fine, just please don't pretend you do.

The food was adequate enough for a high volume tourist place. Our waiter was frankly obnoxious. If I hadn't been in a large group and not wanted to make a scene I would have told him so-- he got the 20% because it was auto added for a large party but was rude and uninformative

We went to Al Porto with pizza in mind but when our server pointed out the early dinner special my husband zeroed in on the beef tenderloin. Our salads (goat cheese for him, spinach for me) were good though rather small, and my mussels were okay, but he was quite disappointed with the beef and doubts that it actually was tenderloin. He also has no recollection of the sauces mentioned in the online version of the menu, and I know he was not offered a choice. So, the next time we will stick to the plan and hope for better luck with the pizza.

The service was great except that we found out via another server that our server gone home. Having experienced thin-crusted pizza in Italy, I was disappointed that my house pizza's crust was thick and hard to chew. It did not help when my knife was not the sharp pointy ones. My hands were too tired cutting up the pizza then to really enjoy the pizza. I was hoping for an authentic pizza, especially that Al Porto is proud of its Italian culture. Plus, it is a casual fine dining restaurant, I was not enthusiatic to dig in with my hands on the juicy pizza. My husband had the Osso Buco and mentioned that the flavour had not got into the meat. We expected better for the price.
