Came here with two friends and while I had a group I could've use, I decided from our first experience that it would be worth going back again. The service was very efficient and the overall food itself was enjoyable. Perhaps the only minor criticism was the dessert platter, with the tiramisu being more creamy than sponge and coffee (though one of my friend's preferred this) and the creme Brulee runnier than solid. Aside from that, an overall enjoyable and random find for a Saturday night! Will be back again.

  • So disappointing...

I had been here in the past but have not been for the last yr and surprised to find the quality of their food has gone incredibly down hill. I had a chicken and mushroom pasta that had no taste at all... the texture was just awful and my bf had a spicy tomato sausage pasta and was just as disappointing (at least his had a slick kick to it.) We also had the meatball appy which was ok.. the meatball was decent but the polenta was tasteless and presentation was not pleasing. Overall I would not be coming back and would recommend others to get their Italian craving elsewhere.

We went for lunch. Perhaps dinner is better. This was the poorest lasagna I have ever eaten: nothing but pasta and drowning in bechemel sauce. No veal in sight.

We were a large group - even though I totally miscounted, the management was great about adding extra tables - mind you it was late October on a rainy weeknight. Service was exemplary - our head waiter was attentive, keeping wine glasses filled and removing unnecessary items from the table, no waiters asking 'who had the halibut' etc. Food varied from good to excellent which is hard to achieve when a group of 25 is ordering off the menu. All in all, a great evening.

We were in town for a conference and planned a night out with 20 or so people. We were treated fantastic by the staff. Very attentive, upbeat lady. The food was fantastic. Great tasting, and lots of it! We also had a young family with us that was concerned if it would be ok to bring their son to the restaurant- they were also treated fabulous! Next time we are in Vancouver, we will be visiting again!

I work in Gastown and noticed Al Porto a while ago and was always curious about it. Last Saturday my wife and I had a concert to attend nearby and we had the perfect excuse to try Al Porto. We were very pleased. The service was perfect. The food was outstanding; specifically, our scallops were perfectly prepared and we had the freshest tiramisu we'd ever experienced. Thank you for the lovely time. We've already recommended Al Porto to several family and friends.

We love coming to Al Porto for their wood fired baked pizzas ... they are consistently delicious. We have tried a few of their salads now and all have been very fresh and tasty. The service is wonderful and both the red and white sangria is very refreshing. Al Porto also has a wonderful wine list with many choices. It is one of our favourite restaurants in the city.

The food, ambience and service were fine; but we were looking for a fine dining experience and we were disappointed. We were in and out in 55 minutes and that included taking our time to order and having a cocktail, a starter each and a meal. The final tally was close to $100.00 but we did not have the pleasant, relaxed time which we expected. We left feeling like we had missed something. And we were there during the prime time dining hours, so it wasn't as if the restaurant was in a hurry to close, or expected to get busier. One shouldn't have to tell a restaurant how to time their serving. The prices for this restaurant set it in the fine dining category but the "service" definitely put it in the fast food style.

We were greeted pleasantly and taken to a lovely table in a quiet dining room, away from the groups. While the food was up to the usual high standards we expect at this restaurant and even though our preference is typically for service leaning towards unobtrusive, we both found a certain lack of interest from our server once the food had been brought to our table . We needed to chase someone down for missing silverware and additional seasoning for one of the dishes. Still, I expect we'll be back.

This was our second time eating here. The food is still delicious. We remembered the restaurant as it was down a flight of stair and it was located near the heart of Gastown. Service was challenged the night we were there but we were on vacation so it shouldn't have mattered. The cannelloni seafood and the pizza were terrific. The fresh seafood was was served beautifully and the red sauce had a special flavor. Would have enjoyed the early bird as we were with kids. Enjoyed the round tables.

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Al Porto. The service was impeccable and our waiter offered us very good suggestions for appetizers, salads and entrees. The pizzas are define and have a thin crust and are baked in a wood fired oven. The wine list is lovely and the restaurant offers 3 oz. taster sizes, so I tried a couple new wines that I was curious about. They also make a wonderful sangria. We are never disappointed when we visit Al Porto's and highly recommend it.

The beet risotto was slightly undercooked and nothing special. I enjoyed the linguine vongole. Tiramisu was heavy on the marscapone where it tasted like cream cheese and cake a tad dry. Good value with groupon but wouldn't go out of my way.

I ordered the veal saltimbocca. The veal was paperthin and vastly overcooked, resulting in a leather-like appearance. Terrible meal. The waiter was very attentive and friendly, and the view was nice far away (mountains), but not so good nearby (railroad tracks). We had high hopes, but low results.
