A word from Al Di La
Al Di La is a neighborhood restaurant serving simple, authentic Northern Italian cuisine. At Al Di La we strive to create a seasonally-inspired menu comprised of fresh, mainly local ingredients. We are an owner-operated establishment serving both lunch and dinner.

Some features of Al Di La: handmade pasta selections, fresh daily-baked focaccia bread, delicate desserts prepared on-site, an extensive Italian wine list, a wine bar, and two outdoor patios. Guests also have the choice of enjoying wood-fired pizzette, Italian cheeses, meats, and vegetables to name a few. Join us anytime and prepare to get away, or as 'al di la' translates to mean, prepare to go 'beyond the beyond.'Continued

  • "We are huge fans of Al Di La. Once again, we had a wonderful experience. Great food, great company, great service."

  • "Really enjoyed dining at this establishment. When we arrived we were promptly seated. Everyone there was curtious and the food was great. Really enjoyed our dinner, wonderful food, wine and dessert"

  • "I took them up on a LivingSocial offer. Food was great. We enjoy tapas, so we ordered two apps and two primis. The beef carpaccio was lemony and bright. A stuffed fig was succulent and a nice change of pace. The tagliatelle and duck confit was not heavy with sauce, and the tonnarelli with housemade sausage and fava beans showed off some charcuterie prowess. If we had room, we would have gone for a wood-roasted chicken dish, which was more interesting than the obligatory offering. Wines by the glass paired nicely. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Valet parking was nice. The meal would have been worth it without the coupon. For tourists wondering if there's any reason to leave the peninsula, there is."

  • "Food was decent. Nothing impressive. The restaurant had a musty old smell. The server was friendly but confusing in his descriptions of the food. My husband ordered a dish recommended by the server and a different dish came out than was expected. Server did not offer to switch dish for the correct one or comp/discount the dish received."

  • "Al Di La is a great spot favored by locals. The food is delicious without being overpriced and portion sizes are perfect."

  • "I’ve wanted to go to Al Di La for years and was excited to see what all of the hype was about. Unfortunately, I wasn’t that impressed. The ambience was perfect for a romantic evening with my man and I was pleased with our table. However, our server took forever and wasn’t very knowledgeable about the menu. He was nice, but it was clear he didn’t want to be there. I got the gnocchi which was okay, but found it strange that they cut up my shrimp in small pieces. The large portion was enough food for 2 people. My boyfriend had the pork chop, which looked amazing. We had talked about getting dessert, but our server disappeared (yet again) and took so long I wondered if he thought we had already paid him. Needless to say, we didn’t get dessert."

  • "For as nice, tasty and special as the food is, you would think their waitstaff could be a bit more attentive and representative of the restaurant and cuisine."

  • "A standard of good food, non tourist place in W. ashley neighborhood. Try the "quartino" of white wines, excellent."

  • "Been several years since we've patronized Al-Di-La. Must still be popular because made reservations three weeks in advance and could still only get 8:00 pm which is a little too late for me. When we arrived, place was half empty. So it goes. Still it was fifteen minutes until we could glasses of wine. Seat me, drink me, give me bread, but don't wait 15 minutes. Wine flight was outstanding; 3 Italian reds were super. When we got it. Had a tuna tartare appetizer special which was tasty, but just too much. Give me a taste, not a small plate. The asparagus risotto with seared scallops was again delicious; just heavy. I remember lighter fare at this place. Look, it's still very good, just not memorable. Quicken up, lighten up."

  • "We were the only table on their adorable patio, the food was amazing, our waiter was outstanding, and the wine flights were so fun! Can't wait to go back and try their wood oven fired pizzas in the fall!"

  • "Our server was very patient & attentive. Ambience was great though my 60+ y.o. mother & aunt both had difficulty reading the menu b/c of the low lighting & menu font but to be honest, this is a common complaint anywhere we go. The appetizers were fantastic: seared yellowfin w/ watermelon & prosciutto (ok) & roasted figs w/ gorganzola wrapped in prosciutto (flavor explosion). Mom was very pleased with the fettuccine bolognese. Aunt got the roasted chicken & said it was most & tender. I got the ricotta gnocchi with shrimp, grape tomatoes & basil which was pretty good. Boyfriend got the duck confit with mushrooms which was moist, tender but a little too earthy for me."

  • "While the menu is limited, Al Di La never fails to please. This is one of our favorite girls-lunch-out spots, and it works for a romantic evening dinner as well."

  • "We went to Al Di La for the first time and were delighted. We read the Open Table reviews first and found out there was a elevated table with "love seat" seating. We requested that when we made the reservation and lo and behold they had that table set aside for us. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable service. Food was great. I had the pork chop and it was juicy, tender and tasty. My Wife had the scallops and they were excellent. With the feel of an in-town old Charleston bistro without the Charleston prices. This will definitely become one of our regular haunts."

  • "Nestled in thriving West Ashley, this was a a wonderful restaurant find! They had a great wine list, wonderful food and and terrific service. The only drawback was that the late dinner (8:15 PM) was a little noisier than I would have liked, but the food and the service made up for it. Best tomato basil soup my wife has ever had. We had a special fish offering with pan seared grouper, a corn, potato, and green bean blend followed by tiramisu that was perfectly prepared! The waitress was outstanding and anticipated every request before it was made!"

  • "always feel a bit rushed to leave at the end of the meal. I understand the need to turn over tables for other guests, but part of the allure is sitting streetside. Asking if I want the check once is sufficient. not every five minutes or so. I will continue to come, the food is second to none. If it weren't for the impatience of the staff to move us through, I would feel like I was in Naples."

  • "We had a fabulous dinner! The duck confit and Tagliatelli were wonderful. The new decor was lovely. We had a special table that was on a raised platform with couch like bench seat and curtains on either side that gave it a very romantic feel. We felt like royalty at our "thrown" table! I have been enjoying Al Di La for years and it just keeps delivering great food!"

  • "It's been a while since we dined at Al Di La, and it was as good a ever. I liked the funky fun renovations in the dining room and the food was delicious. I had the shrimp and tomato gnocchi, sooooo yummy!! And we finished with the riccota cheese cake, to die for!!"

  • "You just cannot beat the food. The service is great but the food is amazing. All pastas are homemade and seasonal dishes like stuffed figs wrapped in prosciutto are divine. Go when you are super hungry! It is worth it to over indulge here!"

  • "I love the menu stays mostly the same. The few times a year I go in I love knowing the dishes are still there and delightful. Happy b-day to me every time."

  • "My last visit here as over 3 years ago and was fondly remembered , this visit won't be . The menu is not inspired , the food was not hot and the restaurant was not busy at the time the food was delivered Overall , go to LANA in Charleston"

  • "A good Northern Italian restaurant in this area is a rare bird. Al Di La is a great example of good Northern Italian food pared with wonderful service. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgable, and efficient. The parking problem has been resolved with an available valet service."

  • "Our food was good. The asparagus risotto with sea scallops i had was delicious. My husband's gnocchi was a bit over cooked to my liking, but the flavor was good. The gelatto was not very good, I would give it a 3 star. Had frozen granules in it, not smooth and creamy. One of my favorite desserts and I have had many times so I know good gelatto."

  • "My wife and I had a great experience, the appetizers, main courses and desserts were wonderful. I had a pork chop that was a s good as any steak I have ever had. We would without hesitation refer others to check it out, you won't be disappointed."

  • "The food at Al DI La is normally good. But the last time I went 6/20/14. I was disappointed. I ordered the Lamb but was served what tasted like and had the texture of beef. The meal was good so I accepted it but I am certain it was not lamb. Lamb as a easy recognized flavor. When I called this to the servers attention he tried to convince me it was lamb. I have eaten enough lamb and beef to know the difference. He said he would tell the chef but I never heard back. I emailed Al Di La but never heard back. I can understand being out of a certain dish. But the customer should be told of the situation and be allowed to decide to accept the substitution or order something else. The lack of a response from AL DI La is very disheartening."

  • "We recently dined with friends and were treated to a fabulous dinner. I had the black sea bass special and it was just delicious!!! And the blueberry cheese cake was perfect followed by a good cup of coffee :) The waiter could have been a little more attentive and friendly, but I guess he was busy."

  • "My husband and I dined at Al Di La for our 5 year anniversary, as it is one of our favorite local spots. They did not disappoint! Our waiter, whom we had before, was friendly and knowledgeable. He even sent us over two house made limoncellos at the end of our meal. It will continue to be our top go-to date night restaurants."

  • "We have been going here for many years since they opened. The food and service have been consistently excellent. The wine list is varied Italian and quite reasonable. My only gripe has always been the lack of beer varieties. They only carry Italian beers, and Italy is not known for their brewing prowess and I have never found a good Italian beer at any restaurant anywhere."

  • "The ambiance was fun and trendy. The food was spectacular in every bite. We came in a little early for our 9:30 reservation and started with a bottle of wine at the bar. The bar tender was very knowledgeable and helped us select a great bottle. After we were seated we ordered a variety of appetizers followed my dinner and dessert. The server was also very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. The only critique I could offer is that I felt a bit rushed. I realize we had a later reservation but having been in the restaurant industry myself for 15 years I would have appreciated my courses being timed a little more smoothly. Again, it was still great service And I know what it's like to be ready to go home. "

  • "We had reservations but table was not ready or did they get us to our table for 30 minutes. Service was too slow. We waited for 15 minutes for wine after we ordered. Wine was not good. Food just OK, eatable. We took 4 guest and would not go again. "
