Diner Reviews
  • "Arrived on time for reservations was seated with in 10 mins by a nice gentleman at the door, which is not bad at all. Was greeted at our table by a very friendly server who took good care of us. Food was served fast had special saute squid appetizer and ceasar salad for table a little heavy on dressing asked for anchovies didn't get them. Meals ordered were Frutti de Mare which contained a large amount of seafood wich was fresh, veal parm good, lobster ravioli very tasty, and cheese ravioli average. All in all good meal served fast I dined with my wife and my 10 yr old twins One hour at the table and gone. A little fast for my liking but worked this evening with the kids after Bruins game ."

  • "The food is amazing and the wait staff even more amazing and the price is right! We always say we are going to try some place new, but we love Al Dente, so we keep coming back. They take reservations, which is good, because if you have to wait, you wait outside. It fills up quickly. There is no coffee or dessert, but they will direct you to a wonderful bakery. Always a great time!"

  • "We have two kids in Boston Colleges and have celebrated their birthdays, special occasions and just go for dinner because the staff and owner are the best! So very accommodating, friendly, the food is the best! I am sure we have had everything on the menu and they never disappoint. This is a must for dinner in the North End!"

  • "We eat here every time we're visiting Boston. The food is always excellent. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. It is one of those places where you're never disappointed. My only criticism is as with most North End restaurants, it is too tight and crowded because they jam as many seats as possible in the space."

  • "You dont want to miss this dining experience ! Its Pasta like grandma makes ! The lasagna/eggplant was the best ! and if you order the ceasar salad - please share its huge !!! This is now #1 on my North End list !! Recommend making reservations if dining on the weekend - otherwise you may have to wait ! but so worth the wait !!!"

  • "Always, always spectacular food, with "regular" specials, don't forget to ask for the spinach crepes for an appetizer. Service with a local flair, very casual, but warm. Just a fun place to go."

  • "My daughter actually picked Al Dente to celebrate her 12th birthday. It was worth the hour drive! All of our dishes were fabulous. Wish it were closer because we'd definitely be regulars. Mmmm delicioso!!!"

  • "The food was great; large portions; reasonably priced; great service. Area for improvement would include spacing - packed in like sardines - barely enough room to move your chair without hitting the diners next to you."

  • "My wife and I had wonderful dinner. The food was amazing and the service was professional, yet very friendly. My wife and I are both foodies and know good food when we taste it. I highly recommend the homemade pasta ! One thing to keep in mind, there is no coffee or dessert served here. I am guessing that since seating is very limited, turnover for serving more dinners rather than coffee which endlessly occupies tables is preferred by management. Fine with us, the North End of Boston has plenty of excellent cafes for tasty treats and coffee. Enjoy Al Dente !"

  • "The best in the North End. Amazing Italian food and reasonably priced for HUGE portions."

  • "The food was AMAZING and there was something for everyone. One in our group wanted classic Italian, another seafood and our third needed gluten free...we ALL left happy! Our waitress was professional yet friendly. She stopped by the table to chat several times but not so long or often that it got uncomfortable. Food came out hot and there was not a long wait. The size of the restaurant is both a plus and a minus, the noise level is on the higher side but not so much that you felt like you were part of everyone's conversation. The prices are beyond responsible for the amount of food you get. I would HIGHLY recommend Al Dente. We will be visiting again!"

  • "Our favorite spot everytime we come to Boston. The food is all fantastic and you feel like you are being welcomed into the family when you dine there. Service is quick and banter is very Boston. Reservations recommended as it is popular."

  • "Had reservations on Monday night, it was quiet, immediately seated. After taking our food order, our server told us she would bring us bread, which never came. Our entrees (he had ravioli w/ chicken, I had eggplant parm) came out in less than 10 minutes. His meal was hot, mine was not. The cheese on top was hardened & only the ends of the meal was somewhat edible - the rest was cold. He had to flag our server down to get another drink as she NEVER came by to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else (it wasn't that busy). Clearly I was unhappy as I left nearly my entire meal on my plate. She just dropped the bill on our table and left -SO VERY RUDE!! I never left a North End place hungry & angry. This place was JUST AWFUL!"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Al Dente on a recent business trip to Boston. The food was very good. We ordered the chicken and eggplant parmesan and cleaned our plates. Only drawback it is very small and our table was literally in the entry so everytime the door opened we were cold. Just around the corner from Mikes Pastry!!"

  • "Authentic Italian in Boston's North End - not pretentious or pricey. Great service. Try the pumpkin ravioli if they have it, it's amazing!"

  • "The food was fantastic and the prices reasonable. The menu had so many great options that it was tough to decide. The only drawback was that it was cramped. You had to say excuse me to the table around you when getting in or out of your seat. Very minor in my opinion for the food quality and value. I already want to go back."

  • "Our waitress, Andrea, was outstanding and personable and out of our group of 4 we each tried a different pasta dish and they were all phenomenal. I had the gnocchi al dente and it was one of the best gnocchi dishes I have tried since moving to Boston."

  • "One of the only highly rated restaurants in North End where you can make a reservation, and don't have to wait in the line for hours. It was tight for our party of 5 guys, but that's was a party of the experience. Very friendly staff."

  • "Went there for our anniversary at the recommendation of friends. We had a reservation but made it into town way earlier than we thought. I called the restaurant and they fit us right in with no problems. We had Andrea for a waitress and she was awesome. Very knowledgable and had great recommendations on food choices. We had the spinach crepes for an app, probably the best dish I have ever had at a restaurant. I had the chicken al dente for my entree with home made fusilli. It was great and I took more than half home because the portions are so big. Wife got the chicken venesia. She liked it but was not crazy about it. Also was a huge portion. Wine menu was great. Good selection of beer. Atmosphere was great."

  • "Al Dente is not swank nor pricey nor pretentious. The ambiance there is upbeat and casual with a high tempo, and the food is FANTASTIC!!! Our eggplant parmigiana, chicken marsala, and sausage ravioli were superb and plentiful in portion. You won't leave hungry! Our server, Marge, was charming, funny, and attentive, and she made the meal memorable. If you're looking for down-home, authentic Italian food, book a table at Al Dente -- you'll be happy you did!"

  • "Tons of places in the North End. Hard to go wrong, but they do a great job at Al Dente. Service was the best--like you were family. Definitely a place to call on again."

  • "Ate at Al Dente on a Friday night. Our party was promptly seated for our 8:30 reservation even though we were missing 2 of our 5. We felt a bit ignored for about 15 min but managed to flag down a waitress and order a glass of wine. She was then very attentive and friendly and we ordered for our latecomers and waited. The appetizers came out very quickly and were delicious - Shrimp scampi, eggplant rollatini and salads. The pasta main courses were a bit slower to appear but all very good - the vodka sauce was very good - a bit different flavor with the taste of artichoke, the lobster ravioli had a red sauce and nice pieces of lobster and the gnocchi was good. Huge portions definitely good for sharing, homey, comfortable feel."
