Christian Simionato Executive Chef
Chef Christian Simionato was raised on his family farm in Villanova, a small town on the border of Venice. Here he was given generations of knowledge, growing food, making wine, and curing meats. He was instilled with the Italian mindset of respect and tradition. At the age of 15, Simionato began working for prestigious Italian cuisine ambassadors and travelling across the globe from London to Los Angeles to share the doctrine of authentic Italian tradition.

  • "From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, it was perfection. Our server Maria was immediately warm and friendly and most welcoming. The food, started by a complimentary treat from the chef of artichoke heart and cheese, was superb. The carpaccio was excellent, and the spaghetti cacio e pepe was simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The bistecca was cooked perfectly, the roasted carrots were unbelievably good, and the bone marrow divine. Ending with a perfectly brewed espresso and home-made limoncello gelato was the best. Mille grazie, Al Bacio, we weill return!"

  • "The food is excellent. The chef is there daily so it is consistently good - I can't say that for many restaurants anyone. The service is amazing and they try hard to accommodate your every wish/need - they made us a pizza which is only served at lunch, for dinner. Fakeeh was our server and he is delightful and eager to please - top notch service. Christian the chef came out and talked to us and made sure everything was to our liking. We will definitely be frequenting this place. The octopus appetizer and the pistachio ice cream are fantabulous!!!!!"

  • "Friends took me to lunch here a few weeks ago and I loved it. So when it was time for a group of us to find a place for good food and conversation, I made a reservation to go back to Al Bacio. Dinner was terrific, everyone loved whatever they ordered. The service was great and the room wasn't too full so tables were nicely spaced to give you some privacy. We sat inside, but the covered patio would be a nice place to eat too. Everything is fresh and made there, including the deserts. I'd definitely go back again."

  • "Looking for something new Saturday night so tried Al Bacio. Split the beef carpaccio appetizer which was outstanding and very nicely presented. We both ordered the halibut with entrees cooked differently and they got it right . Basic preparation with a split-pea puree was fine although could have been more flavorful overall. A small-but-decent wine list, mostly Italian, was fun to explore and the recommendation from our experienced waiter was excellent. Home-made scoops of pistacio and lemonata gelato rounded out the meal nicely. The attractive street-side porch on Sunset looked inviting but seemed too noisy for us. Valet parking right in front was very convenient. Look forward to going back!"

  • "We don't live nearby, but that never stops us from making the trip. I'm always full and happy on the way home! I'm always trying to bring friends and family in to share the experience with us. Impressively fresh and unique dishes are their specialty, and the staff is so awesome and knowledgeable. I highly suggest the tiramisu to finish off any meal!"

  • "This former il Sole location on Sunset has been transferred into a very warm, friendly local restaurant with outstanding food and service. Chef Christian creates some of the most memorable dishes we have had enjoyed in a long time. Having had lunch there recently, I took my wife the next week to celebrate our anniversary. It was a great evening and experience... made all the better by the delicious cuisine. Worth a try. I suspect that you'll be back."

  • "Stepping into Al Bacios light and elegant heated patio we were welcomed by the friendly smiling faces of the staff. from the eager to please Server, the incredibly hospitable Manager and even Chef made an appearance to check on every table personally. I've never experienced such a personal, intimate level of service in LA. EVER. As for the food? WOW!! Such simple, classic italian dishes but so perfect in composition and in the blend of flavours. The shaved Veg Salad was colourful, beautiful, fresh and delicious. We had sides of perfectly tender broccolini and crisp roasted potatoes with soft fleshy centres. The star of the meal however was the double scoop of dairy free, gluten free, guilt free decadent, rich Cocao sorbet. BLEW. MY. MIND."

  • "This is a really lovely restaurant that serves exquisite Northern Italian cuisine (Chef Christian hails from outside Venice). The crispy octopus appetizer is one of the best I've ever had -- butter-tender inside and crispy and nicely charred on the exterior. A marvelous raviolo (extra large ravioli) made from whole wheat semolina with a creamy egg inside and sprinkled with Parmesan and crispy prosciutto (a tad over-salty). Dessert was a divine dark chocolate truffle with chocolate and hazelnut gelatto inside. It was a slow night (due to the Farmers Market and food trucks next door), so Chef Christian served us himself. The bartender/waiter tended to our wines, knowing which pairs perfectly with each dish. Prices are very affordable."

  • "it's exciting to watch such a great restaurant finally starting to get recognized. I've been living in the LA area for about 5 years now and it seemed the 'best' restaurants had fallen into the trends of loud horrible music, bad food, and pompous service.Luckily I happened upon this gem while looking for a new spot to dine and hang out with friends. I found that not only was the food exceptional and beautiful but the waitstaff was soooo friendly, i really felt like they actually gave a s***. I went with a few friends and we all agreed, best pasta and gelato everrr, try the tagliatelle and the tiramisu gelato if you can, they said their gelato flavors change often!"

Both times I've been here for dinner, there was only one other group there, I think they do a lot more lunch service than dinner but don't let they deter you from coming here for an intimate experience that combines attentive but not overbearing service with fantastic italian food. The chef comes out multiple times to greet you and offer his special "tastes" from the kitchen, on the house. Overall a wonderful experience, I cannot say more about this place. "

  • "I'd never heard of this restaurant, even though i live up the street in the hills right behind, so when i walked by on friday morning i thought i'd give it a try. Needless to say my lunch that day was beyond good! i usually walk my dog every morning which means i generally stop for a coffee and a small bite anywhere that's dog friendly but i don't think i'd ever experienced the same service anywhere else. i ordered their express lunch that was a green lasagna with pesto, mozz and spinach. it is always 12$ and supposedly comes out in 12 minutes, it was a very generous portion and came with a small salad. The meal was on time and delicious, they even brought my dog some water when i asked and they did it with a smile, unlike most places! "

  • "Now one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. Al Bacio is food and service absolutely done the Italian way, including a visit from the chef to make sure your dinner was great. Every dish was perfect. Had the buffalo mozzarella starter, followed by a course of risotto, followed by the halibut and the arctic char, followed by the tiramisu. Every dish was fantastic. I will be dining there regularly. So glad my foodie friends recommended it to me!!!!"

  • "We dined as a group later on Saturday evening. Very quiet. Exceptional service. Chef came to table spoke with us after meal. Everyone in the group tried a different pasta dish. All wonderful. The plain spaghetti with just percorino and pepper was delicious The buffalo mozzerella on the caprese salad was equal to that on the amalfi coast. Outside or inside seating right on sunset blvd Wine menu was varied and fairly priced. Excited to go again and try desert. Gelato and sorbets to name a few."

  • "I've come to Al Bacio a few times for dinner and have never been disappointed, so i decided to come in for lunch with a friend. We shared a salad to start, octopus grilled to perfection with a tangy delicious shaved salad on the side. As entrees I had the rigatoni with tomato sauce and eggplant and my friend, their special express lunch that was a pasta (I think i heard the waiter call it trofie) with basil pesto. I must say that the quality of the food still surprises me because of the stark difference between some of the other restaurants on the same block. The dishes are so simple and have only a few components but they completely showcase the ingredients that are there and are so well balanced that it made for a perfect lunch!"

  • "This West Hollywood gem has begun to be recognized for their superb food, wrapped in a casual, welcoming atmosphere. With delicate surprises served by Chef Christian, and an attitude that opens the menu to guests desires, Al Bachio has become a favored spot for quiet superb dinners, as well as a go-to for power lunches in a discreet atmosphere. Housed in the old Il Sole location, Al Bachio is making its own reputation for quality. Where servers see an empty bottle of wine, and a meal almost at end, my host saw that I needed one more sip, and rather than being at the ready to sell me a glass, was there with that extra bit from their by the glass menu poured without hesitation. One cannot purchase that kind of treatment."

  • "We sat on the patio and had a great time with friends from the amuse-bouche (zucchini flower with cheese) to the appetizers and main course to the sweets after the meal. Chef Christian met us before the meal to tell us about the specials (try the white asparagus soup!) and sent us a beautiful and tasty amuse-bouche before the appetizers and salads arrived. The manager Kevin suggested a delightful red that paired well with the meal. The courses were simple yet elegantly presented and very tasty. The patio was comfortable even in cool weather because of the overhead heating elements. We're definitely going to make a return visit soon!"

  • "It was my third time at Al Bacio this last Saturday and it seems the food gets better every time. There always seems to be something new, this time they started us off with marinated shrimp and fennel water in their little jars, very simple yet so interesting and delicious! As an app, i had the tuna carpaccio with shaved white asparagus and my bf had their special, a duo of prosciutto. Next up, we split the Saffron Risotto with ossobucco and bone marrow. As our next course, i had the 16 oz dry aged Rib eye steak and the bf had the Halibut. We split a scoop of cocoa sorbet to end the meal, it was like taking a bite of the best chocolate in sorbet form. Simple yet delicious food has definitely made this our spot from now on!"

  • "My husband and I came by for dinner and just by chance when I checked into FourSquare we received a free glass of Prosecco! Nice way to start off a romantic meal. We then were informed about the specials and after some thought decided to go with the seafood special appetizer (prawns and Cuttlefish with pesto) and the Scallops. Luckily we ordered two apps because we licked the bowls clean!!! We had a wonderful Barolo wine with our main courses (I had the Lamb and it was amazing!). Then for dessert we finished with a nice espresso and gelato. Cannot express how great the food is here - once people start catching on what an amazing dinner can be had here there will not be a free seat in the house!"

  • "It was my first time at Al Bacio, to start we had a beautiful chardonnay alongside a small bite in a little jar. ( very cute ) As an appetizer i had the scallops and my boyfriend a caprese salad, both seasoned perfectly. After i had a risotto with white asparagus and he had their home made whole wheat tagliatelle with lamb ragu.Loved it! For dessert we shared the Tiramisu, unlike most which are incredibly sweet and heavy, this was so light and creamy, best we've had in years! Their wine selection looked great but i optioned to try one of their 32 Opale Beers, best italian beer ive ever had. I'm glad we've finally found a nice quiet place with fantastic food."

  • "A friend had recommended this restaurant to me. I had heard nothing about it so on a whim made a reservation. Our waiter, Fakih, was outstanding helping navigate us through the wine list and menu. The food was delicious, particularly the veal ragu pasta dish. Overall the service and experience made for a great evening. They weren't super busy but I have a feeling that will change soon. In fact I inquired about making a valentine's day reservation and was told they were practically booked full, so plan now!"

  • "The food was delicious. There were complimentary small bites before and after the meal which the chef came to our table and described. The chef is from Venice, Italy. He spoke with us about the preparations of the items, which are from traditional family recipes. The restaurant is small, quiet and tranquil. It is a little too quiet and we think he needs to establish some method to let diners know the restaurant is there. We were staying at the London Hotel and found it by searching for dining within a quick walk. It was our luck that it is on Open Table. I hope he establishes a relationship with the local diners and with other local businesses who can recommend it. You can tell that he is passionate about the food--just needs more diners!"

We really liked Osteria Drago, which occupied this spot until recently, so were initially disappointed to find out that the restaurant had changed ownership. However, after our first visit to Al Bacio -- we were huge fans of this incredible chef, Christian Simionato. His food is exquisitely prepared, with subtle but interesting flavors, the wine list has a large selection of reasonably priced, delicious wine and the service is wonderful. We went there several times over the holidays and had delicious, memorable meals every time. Two thumbs up!"

Place seemed geared towards an older crowd, as we were the youngest people there by 15-20 years. Service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back."
