Diner Reviews
  • "My husband had been to Akasha for lunch and couldn't wait to take me back for dinner. We were seated on time; the cocktails were great, our salads were great. When I wanted to make sure that my medium rare steak would not come out bright red, our waitress told us that tonight's kitchen would do the best they could but we'd be better off just going with medium rare and sending it back if they couldn't get it right. I had a feeling she didn't have confidence in the kitchen. It was extremely noisy. Conversation was difficult. The steak actually came out just right but we had to ask for our french fries 3 times and by the time they showed up we'd finished the steak. The staff is very friendly. I think this was just an "off" night."

  • "We enjoy Akasha so much that we always go there to celebrate. The food is light and tasty. Drinks are very good."

  • "This Culver City eatery in a large, modern and lively room offers a creative American menu, interesting cocktails with fresh ingredients and a robust wine list. The food is of high quality and nicely presented. The waiter was well informed and made recommendations for wine choices and the wild caught salmon, both enjoyed by our party. The short ribs served on sweet potato puree were also a hit. But the service was extremely rushed. Same waiter asked for our dinner order before he brought our cocktails, and the main courses were delivered within seconds of the appetizer dishes being collected. There was never a check on the table to see about drink refills, just a perfunctory question about desserts before the bill was set down."

  • "The food here is fresh and flavorable. We arrived a little late and we lost our table in my preferred area so some of the ambiance was lacking but it may have been a blessing in surprise since our noise level was moderate. Back to the food, the menu here changes frequently because they obviously are working with what is available on the farms (all listed at bottom of menu), they buy from. I enjoyed a lean beef burger that was so fresh I thought I heard the cow moo. Chewing was a delight. My date ordered the seafood stir fry and seemed pleased. My vegetarian mom a dish I don't recall but she said it was delicious. Dessert was banana cream pie for my mom and my date while I tucked into a perfectly flaky, strawberry-rhubarb crumble."

  • "We were looking for a new place to celebrate our friends "milestone" birthday. Both my sister and sister-in-law recommended Akasha as a place with good food, great service and a great atmosphere for dinner out with the girls or a loved one. While the pictures on the internet made Akasha look more like a lunch destination, we're glad we listened to my sisters! It was a great dinner destination. We'll be making another reservation in the very near future!"

  • "One of my favorites. You can do small plates to share or standard dinner plates. We do both and share everything. The staff is friendly. If coffee is important to you they serve Intelligencia Coffee which is perfect. The food is delicious, I had the short ribs and every bite melted with flavor."

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday over dinner at Akasha and they set a beautiful table, including the special wine we brought in and arrangement of party favors. The server was attentive throughout and we enjoyed the wild mushroom and also the fig and prosciutto flatbreads to begin with. In terms of entrees, many small plates were enjoyed and all delicious. Dessert - with candle - included the gluten free carrot cake (you wouldn't know), banana cream pit and something very chocolatey. Overall, a great evening for all!"

  • "Found this little gem because we happened to be going to a show at the Kirk Douglas Theater up the street and it was recommended by a friend who had been a few weeks prior. Although traffic made us late for our reservation and they "no-showed" us, the staff was apologetic and seated us within 10 minutes. The service was outstanding -the waiter was on point with the specials & the wine recommendations. When we sat down we were not aware that it was "Wine Wednesday" and all bottles were 50% off so we both ordered cocktails. However, upon learning about WW from our waiter we ordered a bottle of amazing white wine to go with our Seafood Risotto. I was very pleased with the overall experience and completely impressed with our waiter, Rolando."

  • "Defs. for lunch meetings but great for a date / night out with your partner. Bonus factor: Akasha was Flynn's Arcade in Tron"

  • "The setting is upscale industrial and quite nice. I was somewhat disappointed in the food. The sweet potato fries were great. I had the shrimp salad as did one of my cousins. It was just OK because it was mostly lettuce, 4 smallish shrimp and a small slice of avocado and a little tomato. More shrimp and more veggies would have been good. The dressing was bland. My great aunt had the salmon salad which had a reasonable size piece of salmon. My niece had a rice bowl which she said was OK. I would go there again, very easy parking, very pleasant and helpful staff, but I thought the food would be better."

  • "Lively place with excellent and orignal foods. On-spot service. We were there St.Paddy's day and had a jazz trio which was really good but added to the "lively" sound level. A really good spot."

  • "Food and service really left a lot to be desired, we had a moody waiter who obviously was only there while waiting on a audition, food was either bland or over seasoned,"

  • "Always a favorite, Akasha never disappoints. Excellent food and service and nice wine list. Had a great dinner before seeing a show at the Kirk Douglas Theater with 10% off to boot- they are partners with the theater. Great dinner!"

  • "Went to play at Kirk Douglas theater and this great restaurant was an easy walk from there. Excellent food. Most people started coming in at 8, so a bit empty when we ate at 7:30."

  • "The food is good, service good and both reliable. It's a once a week stop. Wish they would change their napkins and fix the uneven tables. The napkins leave lint all over your pants/slacks and the tables are always rocking. But I do enjoy the Tandoori salad."

  • "Adequate experience, uninspiring, nothing special. There are other restaurants that have better food at this price point."

  • "Although our party was made up of carnivores, we very much enjoyed Akasha's Meatless Monday menu (their regular menu is also available), sharing orichette pasta with eggplant and a light tomato sauce, lemon-flavored broccolini, grilled asparagus, and the most wonderful in-house chocolate mint ice cream cake I've ever had, topped with a sugar-glazed mint leaf. 'Hoping they put in on the regular menu! Live music (soft enough so conversation is not impeded) is performed on Monday nights, making it even more of a special occasion."

  • "Scheduled to attend a performance at the Kurt Douglas Theatre in Culver City and we selected Akasha for its close location to the Theater. We were pleased with the cuisine which was supplied by local growers and the special for the evening was a trout dish which was terrific. The wine list had a wide diversity in type and location. I recommend this restaurant as a theater dining spot and great location in the mid-city location."

  • "The food and table service were good with a creative menu and good cocktails. The hostess was a disappointment in sevral regards. First there was no valet service and when we asked about OK parking locations, she was completely uninformed. The result was a $60 parking ticket even though we parked at a meter and paid. Second she refused to allow the two of us to sit at a 4 top table of our choice and forced to use a two top even though the restaurant was empty and remained so during our dinner."

  • "Akasha is a "nice" restaurant ...great menu, good service, but don't ask for much in terms of creativity in making changes to the listed entrees. In our case it was, "Limit the salt." The result was a precisely cooked (time-wise), relatively bland piece of fish on a bed of spinach. I wondered, Where are spices?" "Where's a sauce" I wanted to go back and explore the kitchen, put my arm around the chef and offer some suggestions or do it myself ...which decidedly would not have been appreciated. This is where fine dining WAS at. Today it's about responding to customer requests creatively. Akasha just isn't here yet. Ambience, wait-staff, wine list, creative entrees, sure, ...but don't expect an engaged mind behind the food preparation!"

  • "Second time we have been to Akasha. The food and service did not disappoint, however the noise level will make us think twice about going back."

  • "My Boyfriend and I had a great Valentine's Day Dinner at this restaurant. We had the small plate beets and onion rings to start, both were fabulous. For dinner we had the beef burger with gluten free bun, sweet fries and then the steak with truffle salt and asparagus paired with a glass of tempranillo. Again both were really fantastic! To end our meal, we had that peanut chocolate bar and the coconut lime tart. The tart was to die for! Wanted to take one to go as well. The ambience was nice and not overly casual or snooty. It was a happy medium, but a sophisticated menu. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "New to the neighborhood and wanted to check out this place. Was not disappointed. Had steak which was very good. My partner enjoyed his meal as well. The mushroom flat bread was great. We knocked it out in 5 minutes. If there was a downside to our experience it would have been our waiter. Its wasn't that he did anything bad. He just did not seemed engage at all. There are waiters and there are order takers. He was the latter. I would recommend Akasha and definitely will dine here again."

  • "Husband and I met with three of our adult children for a really good lunch. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Service was very slow, and I'm sure that is because the restaurant was very busy. Menu had something for everyone. Food was great. Appetizer held us over. and I would say it was a great lunch. Unfortunately all the kids had to go back to their parking spaces and feed their meters (parking is not easy to find unless you want a $10 lot). But a good time was had by all."

  • "We recently took a friend to Akasha for his birthday. It is one of our favorite restaurants but we hadn't been there for about a year. If anything, the food and service were even better than we remembered. Two of us are vegetarians, and we were thrilled with all the great choices we had. Everything was delicious, but I have to give a special shout out for the rhubarb crostata, which was spectacular."

  • "Was very excited to go and celebrate for my birthday the other night. When you reserve online it has a section left open to put down what the occasion is. I figured if I put it was my first time and that I was celebrating my birthday that the host would read that in the notes before seating us but she didn't. Even when I went up to her when we arrived, I even told her it was my first time and she just went on with seating us and ignored the comment. I really never complain about things like this but this occasion is once a year and just expected better service. Over all the food was great, and even the atmosphere was awesome."

  • "I think this restaurant is a bit overpriced for the food they offer. The burger and the drinks were awesome, but the fish and shrimp appetizer was not good. Not sure I would come back."

  • "Three friends and I met for a Birthday dinner. Due to poor planning on our part, our table for four suddenly doubled to eight. The staff at Akasha proved to be wonderfully patient and accommodating for our sudden increase in size. Thank you! The food and service was absolutely impeccable and the Birthday girl had a great time. Thank you!"
