Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I love it! It's our go to neighborhood restaurant. Perfect before going to the movies….Great food, really yummy, clean and tasty, wonderful cocktails and delicious desserts!"

  • "Good variety of food. Cool little jazz band playing in the corner. Tastey dinner & dessert. Would recommend for a date, or with a small group of friends."

  • "Food and service were great. A true Culver City find."

  • "Usually I enjoy eating at Akasha but my visit was disappointing. The service was really slow and my husband's burger was dry and the waitress forgot to add the cheese he requested. We had to ask her several times for service while she raced around serving other people. Every thing was slow to come out of the kitchen and even the dessert was off."

  • "I had requested cupcakes for 60th bday celebration. They were sold out earlier that day. Disappointing"

  • "The lunch menu wasn't impressive at all and seeing & tasting food was even worst! Drinks lacked taste & basic presentation. Service was completely unacceptable, except for waiter's help that almost saved it. Maybe the waiter lacked language skills in English and that's why he couldn't serve better, but all of it at our own expense. Our waiter even answered to one of us that the food was prepared with GMO products!  We told our friend the waiter must have not understood English or even what GMO stands for. The real experience made it 'unreal' (in the bad sense of the term) for all of us, easy-going 6 good eaters!  We won't eat at Akasha ever & discourage others to waste their time & money! Actually, this place needs supervision."

  • "Took clients to dinner here and my fault I didn't check exactly how the steak was prepared. My client took a bite of her steak and said "strange taste" , I had the same experience. Realized there was a pile of olive tapenade all over the steak which totally overwhelmed the flavor of the meat., even when I scraped the tapenade off. The lighting is dim so read the menu carefully and check with your your waiter."

  • "We were seated at a fairly quiet table, which I appreciated, - The food was wonderful. Our waiter, David was very helpful in recommendations. The portions were just right. We can't wait to come back again!"

  • "This place has a nice ambiance, but the food and drinks are subpar. The bar is one of those new-age ones that insists in using high fructose agave nectar in all it's drinks, including classics that require sugar (e.g. Mint Julio's, caipirinhas, monitos). The food was a bit hit and miss. The salads and pasta were fine, but the fish was way overlooked and the shrimp were not fresh. The service was pleasant but not efficient and the waiter didn't know the menu well."

  • "I loved the atmosphere & service, & I would definitely go again. Learn the menu & know what to order/what not to order. Veggie burger (patty made of quinoa and sunflower seeds) was delicious. Yummy mac & cheese and french toast. I was dissapointed with the chilaquiles. Not bad, but needed a bit more flavor. A good salsa would have been a big help. All they had was a hot sauce & something they called chile verde that was more like a pesto, so it didn't pair well with the chilaquiles. My daughter loves salmon, but all they had was a salmon salad not really geared towards kids. Hubby had flat iron steak, but again it was a salad w/too much arugula and not enough meat. Loved the ginger lemonade & other varieties of lemonade on the menu."

  • "Had the misfortune to be seated near a table of drunken loudmouths which was slightly offset by a great server doing his best to attend to our table of four."

  • "I started with a refreshing fruity cocktail, had a wedge Caesar salad, chicken breast over creamy corn polenta, and ended with blueberry skillet pie. It was delicious. The waitress was helpful and efficient. A good time was had by all."

  • "Second time we've dined here. First with group of friends, second time my husband and me. Both were pre-concert. Food was great both times, and service very good. If we could, we would give a rating of 4.5, reserving 5 for the ultimate dining spot. This place is VERY high up there. Has a vibe, but not too noisy to hear each other. Menu items are creative, portions good and flavors very interesting and satisfying. Husband had beef Tagliata and I a green salad with crackled quinoa and light citrus (?) dressing and a fig/proscuito flat bread pizza. Mine was great and my husband also cleaned his plate. Nice wine list with adequate by/glass options. Also convenient to Kirk Douglas theater. Dinner at Akasha was the start of a very nice evening!"

  • "I like this place. The atmosphere is actually the best thing. It is a big open place but it also has charming corners and tables that are perfect for intimate conversations. Also, it is great that the have a great cafe attached to the restaurant so that you can carry on a conversation without taking up table space. I mean why don't more restaurants do that."

  • "AKKASHA is a good option if you want to upgrade a little. Its not a swanky restaurant such as Lucques or The Ivy but a suitable for a good dinner at a reasonable price. Dislike their unconventional martini glasses!"

  • "We have been coming here for years with no issues, but this particular evening everything went wrong. Reservation was not honored and we had to sit in the bar, which I hated. We were told that "our table" had been given earlier to people who just kept drinking all afternoon into the evening, so they of course wanted to please them rather than us. It really sets the tone when you walk in and there is nothing but a terrible table offered. Might we suggest that if people overstay at a reserved table drinking that they be directed to the bar table in a future similar situation? Our guests both disliked their food ~said they would not be back. Service was slow, and server barely had a moment to take our order; he was plain overloaded."

  • "Convenient before a play at the Kirk Douglas. Open design, street side patio. Interesting decor, relaxed ambiance in the restaurant section, even when busy at the bar. Very good food and service. Apricot and gorgonzola salad was delicious, small plates menu nicely varied. Wine per glass list is limited, didn't look at the full list. "

  • "We loved this restaurant and enjoyed the food. The emphasis is on locally grown ingredients and the quality is exceptional. I would definately recommend."

  • "Great food and very creative, although a bit too loud for my taste. My friend and I both had the seafood risotto which was amazing! Risotto can be quite rich and heavy so this was just the right amount of food and the fish was fresh and cooked just right. We also had the kale caesar salad. While it was a bit garlicky we really enjoyed the freshness and innovative use of this ingredient. Also, our server was very accommodating and knowledgeable both with the food and the wine. We will be returning!!!"

  • "Took my bff here for her belated bday treat and was impressed. I was in the same neighborhood a week before and dined at Wallace. Interesting menu and okay service ( must be becuase it was Friday night that service people were very occupied)."

  • "The drinks were some of the best I've had in the area fresh and creative. The menu felt modern and new without feeling unapproachable. I loved the variety seafood risotto was fantastic and the goat cheese ice cream pie was a great interpretation on a classic cheese cake. Great neighborhood find!!!"

  • "really nice space located in downtown culver city. we like the notion of using organic/local grown foods. we love their coffee. we love their bar. nice ambiance. the food? a bit on the bland side. items not cooked CORRECTLY. a bit on the pricey side for what it is. the service? they are trying. they can't help that the kitchen is a bit slow. would we go back? i'd say akasha doesn't quite make the cut unless we are swayed by some fantastic yelp/open table reviews."

  • "I LOVE Akasha, but for some reason this evening was annoying. I was there to catch up with a dear friend I hadn't seen in quite some time, and there was someone at our table every three minutes after the food came asking if I was finished. No...I don't want to feel neglected...but no...I don't need to be checked on so often that I can't even finish any conversation topic. I was asked by four different people if I was done eating. I purposely kept my fork in my hand after the third person came, but every 2-3 minutes one of them came by. I was so annoyed that by the time I was interrupted a tenth time, I let them take it. Both my friend and I were frustrated. We ended up closing out and leaving just to be able to have a conversation. "

  • "Excellent avocado salad with especially good dressing and ample avocado. No problem for me to have two appetizers as my meal - the pea soup was creamy and not heavy. My friend's sea bass was perfectly done. Everyone ate every bite. And we could hear ourselves talk with no problem, which is a rarity in restaurants these days. Really enjoyed it."

  • "We had an early weekend lunch, so the restaurant was almost empty until 1 pm. It was lovely, quiet and good food, just what we wanted. Lovely ambiance. The beet salad was delicious, the Caesar kale salad forgettable--not very good or interesting. Great service--attentive, but not intrusive. Have also eaten here for dinner--food was delicious, good service, very busy, and great people watching. This is an upscale restaurant, which Culver City needed--there are enough fun bars, sports bars, loud, trendy restaurants. "

  • "It's all about the food, which is superb. I am a big meat eater but, as good as that was, the vegetable side dishes and salads were the taste sensations. They made me reconsider my anti-veggie bias! Prices are reasonable. Parking is a nightmare despite public parking garages. The noise level is high, and the tables are too deep for voices to be accurately heard across the table. Service as friendly and efficient. "

  • "We were celebrating a birthday. Some of us had the seafood risotto and the other half had the quinoa bowl with tofu. We also had the chocolate dessert from the main menu (not listed on the dessert menu). The overall rating would have been five stars if only the waitress didn't hit one of our chairs every time she passed by our table: very annoying!! Will definitely go back."
