I was very pleased with my dining experience at AKA, went there for the six-month anniversary with my girlfriend and had an excellent meal. The pork tenderloin was cooked nearly perfectly, quite moist and very tender. My girlfriend's meal was also well done. Definitely recommend this place!

AKA bistro has combined two cuisines. I suppose there is both a French and a Japanese chef; or at least someone has studied each. You can, as we did, select a Japanese appetizer and a French main course. The combination works extremely well. The desserts are vey good. I am a chocoholic and the mousse was delicious.

Fare was quite fine, although the East vs French thing is a bit quirky... Don't quite get the concept. Our waitress tried to be helpful with our questions, although she was a bit brusque and also lost vision of us for awhile. (Other staff were more gracious, welcoming.) That being said, we would return because the overall quality of the food is quite high.

When the noise level in a restaurant is so high that I have trouble hearing the person sitting across the table from me, it's hard for me to focus on other parts of the experience. I go to restaurants not only to enjoy good food but to see and converse with friends. Good food does not trump friends. . I went retro and had a hamburger (big enough for a crowd) with cheese, bacon, onions, and red wine sauce, served with perfect french fries. The bread is a cut above, but I didn't have anything else on the menu. It is a pricey restaurant--$16 for the hamburger. But none of that counts much when you can carry on a conversation easily.

I've been here a few times mainly because there isn't much else in this general area. The menu is odd - half is Japanese, half is French bistro - but the food is good. The ambience is only a little better than a storefront. Service is usually ok, but this night was off -- the waiter brought us dessert menus while we were still waiting for our dinner.

I love the quirky Japanese-French menu. I love the homemade breads, the friendly staff and cheerful owner. I love the presentation of the food, like little art works. I love no TV screens. A birthday party here with friends was fabulous, with an appetizer with their compliments, and "happy birthday" written in chocolate on a dessert plate… Lunch and brunch are better priced for my budget, and I wish dinner didn't need to be a special occasion destination for me. Maybe a few more moderately priced items, so we could come more often?

White wine was served cold - as expected. Delicious. Appetizer of Kobe Dumplings was outstanding. Creme Brulee was very very good. However, I don't think the entree of Baby Octopus and Squid worked well. It tasted like a beef stew that happened to have squid and baby octopus in it instead of beef. Savory, sure, but if there were subtle nuances to the dish, well, I guess I totally missed them.

I visited AKA with my girlfriend and another friend to celebrate my birthday. We asked about the dim sum specials, but we ended up having to wait to hear them because the chef had not arrived for the shift yet. We ordered quite a bit of food...four appetizers, two dim sum specials, a pastry basket, and two entrees. Most of the food was great..., except perhaps the har gow. It was $14 and quite frankly, didn't taste all that different from the har gow you get for $2 at a dim sum restaurant in Boston. The service was somewhere between leisurely and slow. The waitress could have checked in on us more often. We would have appreciated more coffee and she forgot the pastry basket.

We've dined at AKA many times over past years - they have "shrunk" the menu and the offerings are not as interesting as in the past. Combinations are a bit odd; portions vary greatly in size and worst of all, the Japanese offerings have virtually disappeared along with escargot; foie gras, and there was no duck available the night we dined there. It used to have a dazzling array of both sushi and French bistrot menu items - as recently as Restaurant Week in August, I enjoyed a wonderful Asian flavored cevice of octopus and squid. It feels as though they have lost their "Mojo." The lobster spring rolls were oddly flavored but my companion's spring greens salad was perfect as was the chocolat mousse. Our entrees were odd.

The menu is limiting and the food choices are a bit odd, but that isn't bad as just different. The service was horrible. 35 minutes to get a lunch (salad and seared trout). The food was okay, but needed a bit more seasoning. The portions were okay, but something was missing like a veggie. This places closed once and it will again. If you don't take care of your customers, someone else will!

Local food, with an eclectic twist of French cuisine and Japanese sashimi. The combo is like being on a world tour where the tastes leave one appreciating the subtleties of your own bodies ability to experience so many different textures, flavors and scents. The beer list has hard-to-find French beers (Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc and the Corsican Pietra just to start). I had a burger (head-swimmingly tasty), and my wife had a sashimi plate that had a wide span of terroir. I don't want to overstate how much I enjoyed it, but it was such a nice experience, and the wait staff was so informed about local food, it was nice to find kindred philosophy in a staff of people who all understand that food is medicine, and medicine is food.

Ordered the foie gras with seared tuna, the charcuterie board and the frisee salad with poached egg for appetizers. All were very, very good; the house-cured duck on the charcuterie board was particularly tasty. Roasted chicken, steak frites and mussels for mains. Again, all were delicious. The frites, in particular, which accompanied the steak and the mussels, were outstandingly crispy and just so good. We did not order dessert. Service was very attentive and server explained in detail all the items placed on the charcuterie board. While our son decided to order from the regular menu, I have always been very impressed with the varying children's menu here; it offers interesting and flavorful options far from the usual dreck (nuggets, etc.)

I had an pleasant meal out on the porch a month or so ago and went back hoping to support a suburban gem. It was a Thurs. and not busy...uhoh for them. I recalled the drink menu reading well, but not loving the house martini so I branched out and my guests did too. We were all content with our drinks, not begging for another, but fulfilled. It was the food that left us all empty. Somehow the flavor value on everything was turned down to silent. Again, things read well, but had no range of palette. The waitstaff tried to make good and the manager went out of his way to graciously tempt us back with a card, but I can't promise I will.

Staff was great and the appetizers were fantastic...heirloom carrots were beautiful to look at, plentiful and tasty. The heirloom tomatoes were very good as well. The main dishes were mixed. The lamb curry was all rice, potatoes, carrots and pastry dough. There were two tiny pieces of chewy lamb. Frankly, it should have been sent back to the kitchen. The sushi donburi was good and a reasonable amount of food.

The menu listing on-line was what hooked me - poke in Lincoln! We used to live on Oahu and poke was a frequent delight, available at the local grocery store. Chef Chung has captured the authentic flavor, in spite of the tiny bites, perhaps to woo adventurous New England diners. The lomi lomi salmon was a disappointment however - pineapple, really? The French part of the menu was the other attraction. I enjoyed the pan seared trout immensely but was not ravie at a taste of my companion's red-wine braised baby octopus and squid. Our waitress praised the peach tatin with homemade ice cream but I found it far too sweet and heavy for my taste, with very little peach. My companion's choice of the more quotidian mousse au chocolat was lovely.
