Appetizing "slaw" of green apple and papaya/green mangoe? Assorted specialty rolls with fun ingredients (spicy tuna, tobiko, sesame seeds)-again, I only wish for labels so I know what I am eating. Lovely Genmaicha green tea with roasted rice - served in a gorgeous, heavy, stylish pot. Food was fresh, tasty, and bountiful -- but, not really a "sushi" buffet, really more a "specialty roll" buffet - no nigiri or sashimi -- but a wide array of speciality rolls, very tasty, but, as I said, you don't know what you are eating.
Terrific miso soup, salads both vegetable and fruit offered, too - super healthy and great flavors! The play of flavors and textures of the food from Aji were tantalizing, the presentation was beautiful, and the service was just that right mix of attentive but not intrusive. All of the food, not just the sushi, was well-prepared and caringly presented -- overall a seriously good night for food-lovers, ambiance-hounds, and those who can appreciate the fact that a restaurant of this quality is right on Main Street Hopkins! Even though the restaurant was packed, we had attentive and friendly server, sat by the fireplace, enjoyed many types of nigiri (all fresh), a few interesting specialty rolls (good combinations of flavors and textures), the super-yummy squid and seaweed salads, and a bottle of smooth sake - what could be better? The speciality rolls were beautifully presented, and had appealing flavors and textures. We were seated next to the corner fireplace-lovely on a very cold evening. Sake selections are great, reflecting the range of flavors/textures. Our only disappointment: the size of the speciality rolls seems to be getting smaller and smaller as the months go by- which is fine to a point because they were originally enormous, but now have become a bit too small? Tonight our server Alexis was wonderful - patient at explaining unknowns to us, good at recommending new things for us to try, and being just the right level of attentive. Other staff on their toes kept our water filled and table cleared efficiently. The Sunday night buffet was great - terrific range of choices - yum: squid salad, seaweed salad, lots of nigiri sushi choices, and inventive specialty rolls. Yum!Hopkins is fortunate to have this neighborhood gem--incredible all you can eat sushi lunch buffet of high quality food--beyond the sushi rolls you get terrific miso or onion soup & inventive, tasty/healthy salads, and fresh fruit. A good value, in a visually pleasing setting. Honestly, the only reason overall rating and service ratings were't 5-stars is that we arrived at 12:50 and a number of the salads were already empty and were never re-stocked, which was very sad as the buffet supposedly goes until 2pm. Anyone eating at 1pm or later missed out on the wonderful squid salad and the bright, crunchy green apple and papaya salad. Not to mention that the seaweed/cucumber salad had hardly any seaweed left!
