Diner Reviews
  • "We have eaten here a few times we just walk in and ask the waiter to order for us were gluten free and that's not an issue, they always do an amazing job"

  • "Highly recommend this place! I could eat the Paella three days a week. The service was outstanding and the music on the outside patio was a nice touch! I will most definitely be going back."

  • "Overall a good experience. We had a combination of tapas and main courses each which were excellent. My only negative is the waiter required that we order the main course before the tapas and wine. We thought this was because it took a long time to prepare but then the main course were delivered at the same time as the tapas. We felt rushed. We were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour for dinner. Great Spanish guitar player."

  • "I was just in the mood for Aioli, and so glad we came all the way to Sacramento to enjoy your small dishes and paella for two. I sure do miss you in Davis!! This was our first time to the Sacramento location, and I have to say, I was very impressed. The garden was lovely, nicely shaded and the splashing, colorful fountain added just the right touch. As usual, the food was a treat for the senses. We had seared tuna, figs and chick peas (sensational!), and the mushroom paella, all beautifully presented and devoured with delight. For dessert we shared the flan, which is always fabulous, and did not disappoint. Service was a bit slow. It took a long time for me to get my sparkling water (the tap is meh). Everything else, though, was great!"

  • "We have been going here for the last 5 years and at least 6-8 times a year. They never let us down. Joseph is a terrific server! The ambience is very comfortable. Not stuffy. Fun and livelily. The Betabel salad with arugula is always terrific. All the plates are good and consistently good. Highly recommend this place! It's one of our favorites."

  • "I know that tapas are small plates, but the portions of olives & mushrooms are a bit skimpy. The gravlox is delicious! The paella is very filling, & a generous portion. The chocolate mouse is rich & delicious. The waiter recommended the perfect wines They could work on their pacing... we would've enjoyed a slower, better paced meal w/ a break between courses."

  • "I have never had a bad meal there. I like the duck and the lamb sausage the best but the stuffed tomato is the bomb! "

  • "The food and wine menu are both extensive and interesting. Great variety of small plates as well as entrees. We shared a few small plates as appetizers and also selected an entrée. The swordfish special was flavorful and very tender. We had more than enough to eat - a few shared small plates would make an ample meal. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the noise level was reasonable. We loved being seated by the window to enjoy the street scene. We would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We had a group of 8 and the food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. Everyone enjoyed the variety of food and all said that they wanted to return. Also, they served us quickly such that it was a great place for a business lunch. Also had great vegan choices."

  • "We love this place and went there for mothers day. The salads were fresh with great dressings that were not overpowering. I had a rabbit which was excellent, even though it was a little overcooked. "

  • "This was my first visit (took my daughter and 9 year old g-daughter) to celebrate mother's day. My daughter and I were pleasantly surprised. Indoor dining was romantic and outdoors where we sat; it was notably charming, pretty and quiet. An array of food items to choose from, good presentation and ALL were delicious. I will return with my husband and am sure he will love it too! My only change is since they don't have a kids menu is to have been given a few suggestions the youngest member of our party. "

  • "This restaurant continues to deliver. Great and unique service, creative and inspired menu, everything's fresh and the room comfortable. Respect for tradition and their own history but not stuck in it. Go and enjoy. "

  • "We had a tapa, salad and main course. The main courses were both a bit overcooked; the salad and tapa was excellent. I think that this is best for tapas but perhaps the cooking staff were not on their game. The live guitarist was a great touch. Will come again."

  • "The food and the service at Aioli was outstanding. Our waiter was charming and made spot-on suggestions for our meal. All food came as described and was memorable. We came for a business discussion and found the restaurant patio to have the perfect ambience and low level of noise that we had hoped for. We can't wait to return!"

  • "Food was unbelievable and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for tapas. Mussels were amazing, the tomato sauce they were in had us sopping up the remains With our bread."

  • "My 3rd time to Aioli and had a wonderful time with friends. Our table was ready right on time, and our server was attentive and very helpful. Ordered tapas and the veggie paella, and for a vegetarian it was delicious! Great wine and sangria. Loud but fun atmosphere, and central to strolling around midtown to work off you meal! Their outdoor dining area is perfect in summer."

  • "This oldie but goodie is still going strong despite all the new competition ( many of which have already come & gone). The seafood entrees are particularly excellennt. The fish and shell fish all very fresh with a piquant tomato sauce. it is so hard to decide between the entrees and a bunch of tapas so we do split an entree and still order a bunch of tapas. The potatoes with spicy tomato sauce are one of my favorites. The night we were there we had an aparagus special and a shrimp special which were also excellent. We were there on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Sorry, I didn't ask our server's name but he has been around for a awhile and gives great attentive service and you can always trust his recommendations."

  • "I loved the tapas and the different selection. Perfect size to share and try out multiple different dishes. Their bread and dip is my favorite. I also enjoyed the privacy. Our server paid attention to us, but did not interrupt our conversation, which I appreciated very much! Very considerate. I will definitely return and recommend to anyone."

  • "Go to Aioli's with friends who are willing to try new flavors and willing to share. Together you can compose an excellent meal that is a combination of smaller portioned cold and hot dishes that can be pickled, grilled or sautéed . Add a glass a wine and after talking about how good the food is, you'll be talking about all the other good things in life. Salud!"

  • "I took my wife, her friend, and her friend's sister here for a fancy dinner that they could dress up for. We were seated right away and the service was outstanding all night long. the menu was very diverse. My wife had muscles, her friend had braised duck, the sister had ravioli (at a spanish restaurant?) and i had braised rabbit. all of the food was excellent. The waiter paired a wine for my rabbit and made my wife and her friend some crazy fruity wine tat they absolutely loved. We all had different deserts too which were also incredible. Easily one of the top five restaurants and dinning experience of my life."

  • "This is the fifth time we've been to Aioli in the past several months, and it definitely was not the charm. First, we were told that we didn''t have a reservation, but they would seat us "anyway" - obviously not true or we wouldn't have gotten this request for a review. After we were seated, getting service was sluggish, to be kind. When we were finally able to order, everything seemed OK, until the waiter re-appeared about 10 minutes later and told us the kitchen was "too busy" to prepare Paella (their SIGNATURE specialty!). Soooo, we ordered a mixed seafood grille, which we were assured would be "no problem" and quick - until 45 minutes later, when we canceled the order, paid up and left."

  • "Upon arriving we were immediately whisked to a window seat for two in a quiet part of the restaurant (though near the end of our meal a party of eleven was seated next to us, making the atmosphere louder than we like.) Our courses included a white bean soup that was bursting with spices and flavor. The calamari Gitano, the short ribs and the vegetable platter were all top notch too. Four items was enough and our waiter didn't push us to overbuy. He recommended a Spanish wine which was priced OK (by restaurant standards), and which went perfectly with our selections. The service was just right: not to obtrusive, but we weren't ignored."

  • "The overall experience was very good and I would dine there again if I am in the area. It's a cute little neighborhood. The food was good but my short rib had a considerable amount of fat. That's the only negative. The ambiance was nice and it seems like it would be a great place for a date. I was there having dinner with a friend."

  • "Aioli Bodega Española may be a difficult name to learn but it is an eating experience that you will not forget. Dining in the patio, on a nice February evening, was romantic and fun. Sitting by the fountain, it felt like we were in Sevilla. The service was top flight, the wine list is worthy of many repeated visits and the food was original and healthy."

  • "I love this place. The food, ambiance, and company remind me of our vacation to Andalusia and Sevilla in particular. The only thing missing is the scent of the orange blossoms from the orchard in La Giralda."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants...a great atmosphere. We went on valentines and it was very busy...they did their best to get us seated and served despite the crowd. The food was amazing. Try the ravioli tapas...the best taste ever. I'll certainly be back!"

  • "This is the second time for my husband and me, and we were even more impressed than before. We had previously had paella, which was very good, but not quite what I was used to in Spain. We decided on something different this time. I had the Zarzuela and my husband had the braised lamb shank. Both were incredibly flavorful. The roasted vegetable, and the hot calamari appetizers were awesome. Needless to say, we had way too much to eat. The waiter (I think it was the owner), would not let hubby choose a glass of wine to go with dinner. Instead, he chose one for him, which was fantastic! Service was slow in the beginning (we waited awhile, and weren't quite sure who our waiter was at first), but the food and subsequent service made up for it."

  • "Note - it is highly recommended to use OpenTable to snag a table here Friday and Saturday nights during prime time (6-9PM). It gets busy, but the service and doesn't suffer. Food cooked perfectly (excellent Ribeye, medium rare with even dark pink evenly cooked throughout, and great wines (most of the red European listings need about 15 minutes to breathe, but good selections and pricing for reserve wines from Spain and Italy)."

  • "We've been to Aioli Bodega Espanola three times now, and every one has been amazing. The small setting is very intimate, the colors and lighting are calm and romantic, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the food is top notch, and they usually have live spanish guitar music (at least on the weekends when we've gone). Our go to spot for special occasions or just craving some great food!"
