Diner Reviews
  • "Ambiance and service were great. Most of the food was good, but saddle of lamb ordered medium rare was barely warmed through and was quite tough."

  • "Food and atmosphere was very good and provided a comfortable setting and atmosphere. Staff was excellent and well informed about items on menu. Good wine list as well. Recommend highly."

  • "Beautiful spot, quiet, exceptional service. Went for brunch: Food was very good, but did not live up to expectation. Portion was VERY small and buffet was disappointing. I imagine it to be very good for late night dining"

  • "The quality and taste of the food was fantastic. Great menu and wine list. The service was top notch. Location on 5th Avenue near he Empire State Building was an ideal spot. Our main problem with this restaurant were the portion sizes. I've been to many fine restaurants including just having come back from Paris and these were some of the smallest. When considering how much we spent for the meal ($$$$), we expected more. I left the restaurant hungry."

  • "I'm a big fan of this restaurant; it is my go to restaurant whenever someone special comes to town. Reservations are usually not difficult to get on short notice. The food and service are top quality. The restaurant is elegant and modern. I typically order the prix fixe menu which is relatively good value and provides for the opportunity to try several dishes on the menu. The pasta dishes are superb and are available a la carte in larger portion size. The only caveat is that if the front rooms are filled and you are put in the back, the experience is not the same."

  • "Great meal from start to finish. Rack of lamb en crepinette was simply genius, cooked to perfection. The lamb meat wrapped in the fatty sausage trapped all the flavor and moisture inside and made the meat so juicy and tasty. The olive-oil poached swordfish was also perfectly done, almost like eating a piece of meat. Appetizers and dessert were all excellent. We'll definitely be back next time in the city."

  • "lovely surroundings, very elegant, staff extraordinarily accommodating, relaxing environment, excellent food, wonderful to be able to hear tablemates. A very happy find."

  • "Went for a business dinner. The food is excellent -- very creative combinations and tasty. The service was a bit slow at first, but became more attentive later on. I had the cioppino, and my only complaint is that the portion size was not remotely appropriate for an entree. While it tasted fabulous, it contained literally one scallop, one small langostino tail (about the size of a medium shrimp) and one 1" cube of white fish. Other than that, three tiny pieces of potato and broth. Given the price, this is not an entree. Everyone else's entrees seemed normal size (pasta, steak, pork), and everyone enjoyed their food."

  • "Four course tasting menu is the best with many excellent options. Lobster is very good as is the lamb. Service is inconsistent as they seem to rotate the servers around and the wine list is very pricey. Had to wait to find someone to settle our final bill."

  • "The food is excellent and the prix fixe lunch menu is reasonable. The restaurant is quiet and very much oriented towards business people. I often bring clients here."

  • "I have never thought there is a nice quiet restaurant on Fifth Ave & Upper 30's St. We enjoyed Pre-fix 4 course dinner very much. And the service was excellent. Definitely we will be back."

  • "Treated like royalty! Michelangelo & the staff at Ai Fiori gave us a truly marvelous evening out - replete with splendid food, scrumptious cocktails & seamless, unobtrusive service with a smile. Cannot rave enough!"

  • "Awesome food awesome head waiters but all the waiters have a fleet of servers and they actually were ones to explain dishes this should never be the waiter should explain the complicated dish and preps and servers just serve and take care of patron I left 20% but next time I will leave half of that It was food quality is Eric's at Le B but service of the now closed Stage Deli ( except for our main waiter who was great)"

  • "One of the best Italian restaurants in the city. The service was impeccable, the food superb and they have one of the better wine lists in terms of variety compared with comparable restaurants. All the pastas and risottos were excellent. Will go back in a NY minute."

  • "Was a great place- elegant but not stuffy. Superb service with a passion for their food and wine. Great appetizers- the torchon and octopus. Loved the Branzino and Lamb. Great cappuccino and desserts. Can have a great conversation- not loud yet not quiet- just right. Airy and lovely with high ceilings. They helped us pick the most amazing wine and the sommelier knew all about how the grapes are placed in racks and fans are used and why it is so smooth and deep red etc. Basically, lovely all the way around for a group of 5"

  • "Dinner at Ai Fiori was a true experience of fine dining at its best. We were greeted warmly at reception feeling right at home. The service was impeccable. You are flooded with attention by staff who answer questions with great knowledge of the menu. The food was a decadent delight! We had the four course meal starting with the lobster soup and it was the best we have ever had. The pastas were homemade and delicious. Our entrees were exquisite. I recommend the rack of lamb. We are looking forward to going back with friends!"

  • "The food was awesome! The wines were great, the service was superb as well. It started a little slow but the waiter (The Captain) I had made up for the slow start. I highly recommend it."

  • "My wife and I went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were looking for a nice romantic dinner with great food. The food was excellent (we did the tasting menu). We were both surprised that there were many families with kids at the restaurant! They didn't disturb us. The kids were not running around or any louder than the other people. It just seemed like a weird place to have a family dinner. The service was very attentive. We probably won't go back since there are plenty of other, more romantic places to eat. Clientele is mostly a mix of tourists and business."

  • "My fiance and I came on a Sunday for the brunch buffet and entree prix fix. At first, I wondered how and why they would serve a buffet at such a nice restaurant, but they nailed it! The buffet options were miniature in size but huge in flavor - everything was fresh and flavorful. Our entrees were also delicious. Our only complaint was the service. There's a difference between unobtrusive and virtually nonexistent. We had to flag our server down each time we wanted something (she didn't offer us the coffee included with brunch, for example) and not once did she ask whether we enjoyed our meal. My fiance said the service was great when he came for a business lunch, so perhaps the server thought we weren't worth the effort as a young couple."

  • "Wonderfully comfortable seating in a smart, quietly elegant space with attentive, friendly service. Excellent, interesting food preparation. The fact that we could hear ourselves talk to one another in our party of four was greatly appreciated."

  • "We were staying at the Andaz Hotel at 5th Avenue & 41st and wanted to find a good, close restaurant and found an absolute gem with Al Fiori. The food was great and the entire dining experience. Wonderful."

  • "Every member of the renoun Altamareagroup is superb, and Ai Fiori is at the top of it's game. Like Marea and Morini, the food is incomparable, the service spectacular, and the ambience elegant. Ai Fiori focuses on food from the Cinque Terre region in Italy, and it is a MUST DINE hot spot!"

  • "Special occasion lunch here was all I had anticipated. I appreciated the layout of the prison fixe menu where all entrees were available al the same price. We had the asparagus soup and beet salad as starters. For entrees we had lamb and Halibut. Dessert was a chocolate tart that was as velvety as any chocolate dessert I have tasted. All dishes were beautifully presented and richly complex in flavor. Service was appropriately attentive and the environment was upscale without feeling stuffy. Expensive and worth it."

  • "We went to Ai Fiori because we wanted to have a special moment with our parents visiting in NYC. What a perfect place for that! Everything from food to service was excellent, way above my expectations which doesn't happen often in NYC. We had a variety of antipasti, pasta, fish and meat dishes, which were all excellent. The service was excellent and people very friendly. We had a wonderful experience. I couldn't encourage more people to visit this fantastic restaurant for any occasion!"

  • "The restaurant is on the second floor of Langham Place, so you have a view of 5th ave if you are at the windows. The decor is amazing from the paintings to the seating. The food was good a lot of different tastes in each dish we got. It was pricey for the amount of food you get but its 5th Ave in NYC. We will be going there again when we are in the city again. "

  • "This was my 6th meal here including Xmas dinner. I brought my parents, who are polite and easygoing but not as sophisticated as the typical clientele. We ordered champagne, a bottle of wine, and 4 course tasting menu...almost $800 bill. Despite telling the waiter that my parents needed to leave in 1.75 hrs, the dessert did not arrive on time and they left before it was served. I needed to ask for the bottle of wine I had already ordered when our glasses of champagne had long run out. No one described the main courses when they were served. I have eaten at over 75% of ny restaurants with Michelin stars and was disappointed that this was the one I chose to show off to my parents. I guess the waiter figured we wouldn't know any better."

  • "once again, superlatives come easily in describing the atmosphere and food of this restaurant. The agnolotti were to die for, and the poached swordfish succulent perfection."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Ai Fiori, from the extensive wine list to the wide variety of entree choices. This sophisticated take on Italian food is rather pricy, the but quality of the food and the service makes it well worth it. "

  • "Bacon, eggs, toast...$30something and just ok - just great. View is nice. Orange juice was good. Coffee good when you can get someone to fill it. Eggs Benedict was nothing special. In short with a tip, our meal was nearly $100 and maybe was worth $50. If you yearn for a fancy name and ok view of 5th ave while eating mediocre food - this is your place. I hate writing reviews like this, but wanted the next person to be aware as I was not. "
