Diner Reviews
  • "I went on a game night and it was very loud and very busy. It was happy hour so we ordered some tacos and guacamole. Both were pretty good and priced reasonably."

  • "Tacos were excellent and I'm not a taco person. Entrees were mediocre to good. I was excited to try short rib entree, which was disappointing to one person in our party with respect to tenderness level and I thought short ribs could have been a little more tender. Our waiter had no common sense customer service skills; fortunately, we consulted the manager who credited our drink tab due to slow service provided by waiter. Very loud dinner atmosphere."

  • "First time here. Food was very good. Tried lobster guacamole and 3 types of tacos. Service was attentive and items were delivered really quickly after ordering."

  • "Superb staff, food, and setting on the Anacostia. An excellent place for a group to share tasty and diverse small dishes"

  • "Was excited about going after seeing the it on a visit to the Yards park. I invited a friend who suggested another restaurant but I talked her into this one. I ordered the salmon, normally my fav. It came COVERED and Slathered with a dark pesto mixture that hid the beauty and color of the fish. I couldnt even tell it was salmon. The overpowering herbs in the pesto made it hard to enjoy the fish, it was buried under the pesto, onion stuff. it was served on a big tortilla which was nice to munch on. So after a few bites it just wasn't good. I had ordered one beef taco to see how the small tacos taste. Ok. you get no sides lettuce or anything, that's extra. took it home, washed off and seasoned. A little better. Sorry wasn't for me!"

  • "After waiting ten minutes for our server to appear, we asked the passing hostess who apologized and brought us water and chips. Ten minutes later and still no hostess. Finally, a busser took our order. Our food arrived around 20 minutes later, only after we physically stood up and walked to the kitchen to inquire about it. No one ever checked on us after we received our food. One of the two entrees was not even the correct item, despite the fact it was correct on the ticket I saw when I had to walk to the kitchen to ask about it. Refills were never offered or given, of either beverages or chips. Definitely a disappointing experience."

  • "I tried the baja fish tacos and pork belly tacos. They were super good. I will definitely be coming back for more, especially knowing that they are only $5 M-F during their happy hour."

  • "Nice location for a Nats pre-game dinner, but the crowd overwhelmed our server and the kitchen. All food choices were delicious and ingredients were fresh. If you want to sit outside, need to specify in reservation. Outside seating has some charm; inside seating was noisy and cavernous. Our waitress--clearly still learning her way around--took forever to bring drinks, forgot to place our order for guacamole which never arrived, and forgot to order sides, which another waiter was able to bring for our table after everything else had already been consumed. We all ordered tacos, but they had clearly been sitting a while waiting to be picked up, and the soft tacos were soaked all the way through by the juicy fillings. Will probably try again."

  • "Agua 301 is in a beautiful location and the food is equally beautiful! The pumpkin soup warrants a return trip all on its own. Four of us tried a variety of dishes and loved every one except the ceviche which tasted fishy, vinegary and full of black pepper. It was the first time in a long time that I have felt I got my money's worth for a meal. Agua 301 food tastes fresh, well prepared and nutritious in a good way. We arrived hot after a tour of the waterfront neighborhood and asked for water right away but our waiter was so busy chatting up female staff members that we waited 15 minutes for something to drink. We would have walked out had one of our party not been there before and insisted the food was worth it. She was right!"

  • "Great spot for dinner before a game. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was delicious (short rib molé and the shrimp w/ Chipotle cream sauce)."

  • "I picked the restaraunt for the neighborhood - I wanted the waterview. The food was great, reasonably priced for that type of restaraunt, it was a spectacular place to sit outdoors and see the water. My friends and I had a lovely time. Service was good."

  • "This was our second time dining at Agua 301. The first time the service was pretty bad, but this time the service was excellent. Maybe they just needed some time to work out the kinks after opening"

  • "Just great! Great food, great ambiance--nice outside, not too crazy down there in SE... YET! Plantains were great! They added some liquid sugar as a topper, FYI, but sweet and yummy. Very good salsa--so hard to find anymore. Amazing(!!) green salsa (ingredients?) served on the side of some entrees--like the chicken entree which was very good."

  • "This wannabe upscale Mexican restaurant offers a very short menu and seems most oriented to snacks to eat with drinks. I ordered the shrimp tortas at lunch and, after a long wait, was given an openfaced sandwich with a few lukewarm, chewy shrimp that tasted like they were getting old accompanied by drying out, tired greens. Save your money and enjoy your meal - head up to 8th Street and go to Las Placitas for much better and cheaper food."

  • "I want to like this place, but each of the three times we have been here (dinner, brunch, and dinner) it has been underwhelming. The food is just ok and it really should be better for the price point. I don't like paying $10 for guacamole that consists of barely mashed avocados and the chips used to be homemade, but I suspect they are now using bag chips. The corn taco shells were completely soggy. The marinade for the meet inside the tacos was delicious though so that's one thing going for them. The service is super slow and the waiters don't seem to know anything about the menu (we asked what drunken beans were and the waiter had no idea and didn't bother to ask...this happened with another item when we tried this place for brunch)."

  • "They were very accommodating for a group of 10 people. We wanted to sit outdoors on a beautiful day with a view of Yards Park and Waterfront. we ordered the guacamole which was pretty good but for $10 its not alot so we went ahead and ordered a second. I ordered the blood orange margherita, and it was just okay. It was a little on the sweet side for me. I ordered the barbacoa tacos. It was pretty good not the best I've ever had but it wasnt horrible. Service was excellent, our waitress was very nice about splitting checks. "

  • "My party sat outside for dinner over the weekend. The food was fantastic as always. The waiter provided helpful suggestions and descriptions. Will definitely return, especially for their happy hour specials!"

  • "I was told by someone that this was just another formulatic Mexican-American restaurant. It was nothing of the sort. The food was Mexican inspired but not the same old familiar fare. It is definitely nouveau mexican cuisine. The atmosphere was fantastic--beautiful spot for patio dining along the river front. It was a Nat's game evening and the distant occasional roar of the crowd added to the ambiance some how. Service was excellent and friendly. Also, it was nice to stroll around the river park after dinner...great for kids, too. "

  • "Service was horrible. It took about 10 minutes for the waiter to even take our drink orders...and the restaurant was far less than half full. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the milanesa. It was so covered with arugula....yes arugula....that I thought they brought me a salad. My friend asked for a side of guacamole. It took about 15 minutes to get to him. It is a Mexican restaurant...should have taken about 15 seconds. Go for a margarita....but DO NOT stay for the food."

  • "If you are willing to repeatedly flag down your waiter, ultimately order from the host, and wait for an hour for your food, you'll be treated to some pretty tasty cuisine."

  • "The service was basically non-existant. I had to go and find a manager to actually order food after 30 minutes. And then they forgot one of our items. They did at least comp the bill, which was appreciated, but we shouldn't have had to be there an hour with basically no service and no food. Food was decent but they really need to have sufficient, trained staff. "

  • "Was a bit scared to try this restaurant bc the Post review was pretty damning. I'm happy to say none of our food was as bad as the Post review suggested it would be. In fact, everything we had was pretty good. This place is probably not quite at the same level as Rosa Mexicano or El Centro, but it clearly is angling for the same space. But it is a lot more kid friendly (at least for Sunday brunch)--which makes it a great addition to the neighborhood--and the large outdoor seating really can't be beat. "

  • "I thought the ambiance and wait staff were great. When we first got there they put us at that table that no one wants to sit at. You know the one out in the open right by the kitchen, in the middle of the traffic. But when i asked the host to move us to a different table he was more than willing he said that we would have to wait 5 minutes for a table to be cleared. In the meantime we ordered drinks at the bar and decided to just eat at the bar. The bartender was seemed like she needed help. She was a little slow and had to be reminded a few times about drink orders and food. But, overall it was a good experience. The Baja Fish Tacos are great and the tequila selection was on point. "

  • "Agua 301 offers the best Mexican food I've had in Washington. It reminds one of the best contemporary restaurants featuring Mexican food in Mexico City. The dishes are surprisingly light combining traditional ingredients with cutting-edge approaches. The wine list is excellent and includes gems from Chile and Argentina. The view, the ambience, and the service are all excellent. A walk by the river after dinner wrapped up a lovely evening."

  • "The amount of different spirits they show stocking on its own menu is insane. Food was so so. Never been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't have queso before. Crab empanadas and fish tacos were nothing to be remembered. Best thing was free house made salsa. "

  • "Went here for a birthday dinner with my husband and some friends. The blood orange margarita is pretty tasty. The guac is good, nothing to write home about, but I certainly wouldn't complain about it. For the main entrees we all got tacos, but tried different kinds. They are all fantastic!!! The best two I would have to say are the carnitas and the beef with kimchi. Delicious! I would definitely get two orders because they're small, but then you can try multiple types. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing and fun. The bathrooms are unisex so just be aware, but they are clean and well-kept. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and I will absolutely be going again soon."

  • "When we arrived at 10:30 for our brunch reservation, the tables weren't set up yet. The restaurant opened at 10:30, but the staff was still scrambling to be ready for people. The salsa and the guacamole were both completely flavorless, and my friend was brought the wrong entree. I'm a big fan of Zest and really wanted to like Agua 301, but there was not much to like. Next time, I'll go next door to Osteria Morini instead."

  • "The food was great, although do not wait or expect the waitron or waitress to make a recommendation. The staff struggled to perform the most basic tasks. The view and area of the restaurant is gorgeous, especially at night. I will definelty return but, curb your enthusiasm on the service aspect."

  • "While there was nothing wrong with the restaurant, there was nothing especially good either. The service was very choppy. Dishes come out in reverse order. The waiter even remarked on it. Serving staff was in constant motion but not efficient. The kimchi was barely discernible in the kimchi taco. The seafood ceviche was relatively taste less. The second glass of wine came way after the food was finished. The pineapple ague drink was interesting as was the new neighborhood. "

  • "A jewel set in Yards Park -- outdoor dining without street noise and exhaust fumes. Very creative and tasty take on Mexican food. Service was friendly but slow -- shouldn't take almost as long to get drinks as it took to get the food. Others served more quickly, maybe our server was new. Decor and views great, but so noisy it was hard to hear others in our party of 4. "

  • "To start, it was a little difficult to find the restaurant/entrance as it sits tucked away on the opposite side of the street. Our group was welcomed by the wait staff and sat down upon arrival. The service was attentive and knowledgeable; food was just okay. "

  • "The service was excellent, although there were not many patrons, the food was flavorful, and the prices were reasonable for the type and level of restaurant. Also, I recommend trying the pork belly tacos and getting a selection of the sauces and salsas. "

  • "The site is close to Nationals Park. The food and view are better than anything you can get at the park. This will be a stop before games."

  • "I don't often go out in this area, so I wanted to see what the neighborhood had to offer. I thought the brunch here was great. Mixed drinks were nothing special but were solid. The huevos rancheros were delicious! I went on Easter Sunday, so it was probably quieter than normal as this is not an area people flock to, and a lot of people tend to travel out of town. I had a great experience overall and I would definitely come back. I think an outdoor space is in the works, and right by the water, it will be a beautiful addition! Lastly, service was great!"

  • "I'm enjoying this new area of the city and it has a lot of potential. The service was great. drinks were good. the view was amazing of the river. We had the guacamole which was very good but it better be at an upscale Mexican restaurant. had the tacos. two ordes (4 tacos total) was a good amount for dinner. Chicken was so-so. a bit dry. the Pork belly were amazing. interesting desert list. Place was fairly empty but once the outdoor seating opens ups this will be a great spot for cocktails/diner after a game. "

  • "The restaurant is new but already revamping their menu. Several of the options listed were not available. Unfortunately, our waiter didn't make that known until after we'd spent a long time reviewing the options and made our choice. It is such a lovely space and great neighborhood but the food just did not hit the mark. I hope it won't rely on getting business simply because of location and lack of choices. There is potential to be good but much needs to improve.I don't think we'll be back. Once was more than enough."

  • "Before going to Agua 301, I reviewed the menu online to have an idea of what I wanted to get. When I got to the restaurant, most of the menu items were not available; including the one I wanted to order. Overall, the food and drinks were good and did not take a long time to come out. The blood orange margarita was very tasty. I would probably go again during lunch time."
