  • "The restaurant is new but already revamping their menu. Several of the options listed were not available. Unfortunately, our waiter didn't make that known until after we'd spent a long time reviewing the options and made our choice. It is such a lovely space and great neighborhood but the food just did not hit the mark. I hope it won't rely on getting business simply because of location and lack of choices. There is potential to be good but much needs to improve.I don't think we'll be back. Once was more than enough."

  • "Before going to Agua 301, I reviewed the menu online to have an idea of what I wanted to get. When I got to the restaurant, most of the menu items were not available; including the one I wanted to order. Overall, the food and drinks were good and did not take a long time to come out. The blood orange margarita was very tasty. I would probably go again during lunch time."

  • "We've been three times now and have been so impressed with everything. The food is unbelievable. The only problem is there is so much stuff on the menu I haven't tried yet! The tacos are amazing, as well as the ceviche. The staff is great as well. They have always been more than accommodating with our baby too. And you seriously can't beat the view. One of the best new spots in DC! A hidden gem!"

  • "Agua's bar is really catching on with the young professional crowd, which is a good thing; just be prepared for a loud bar area whose noise spills over to the general dining room. It's not so loud you can't sit and have a conversation or enjoy dinner just an evolution from where they were a few months ago. They have a new chef who is changing the menu. We will see how that works out. I would have rated the service better but we had to wait on drinks a little longer than I wanted to but overall it was pretty good. We will happily go back."

  • "The location and view is spectacular. It's an attractive space, but our experience was so so. I will give some accommodation for the fact that we were there after 7pm on a Sunday after a 1pm Nats game. So, the restaurant was not very crowded and was winding down. But the service was not very attentive. The guacamole was like grocery store guacamole, and the chips were soggy. That being said 3 out of the 4 tacos our group ordered were good, particularly the fish tacos. However, the barbacoa was too greasy. It was not too salty as in the Post's review, in fact I would say the guacamole was undersalted. I hope they will find their way"

  • "I came for some great Guacamole.....this was acceptable. Very disappointed in the Fish Tacos....only fried! Sangria & Chips were very good."

  • "For the most part I enjoyed my meal here. Unfortunately our waiter was a bit soft spoken and shy. Didn't always get our order right-forgot our gaucamole, brought out the wrong crab dish, messed up our drink order. The manager did take off the gauc order, which was very nice. Everything I had was delicious. Maybe they're still working out some kinks."

  • "Agua 301 has a lot of potential, but it is still finding its way. Great location in Navy Yard with river views and modern decor. They've just switched chefs, and it shows. Some menu items no longer available, a bunch of new ones being added. The presentation of the food was great, but the taste was average for a Mexican restaurant at this price point. The real test will be when we go back in a month or two after the new chef has settled into the job."

  • "There is finally great Mexican food in Navy Yard! I was pleasantly surprised about my entire evening at Aqua 301. The food was delicious, the prices were reasonable compared to similar fancy Mexican restaurants, the service was attentive and helpful, and they have a great drink menu. I will definitely be back, especially for their happy hour specials!"

  • "I had been wanting to try this place out for a while, because I know the owners also own Zest. It was one of my roommates' birthday so I made a reservation for 10 on a Tuesday night. The place was kind of empty - but granted it was super cold outside. But this was also good for us because we could be loud without having to worry about bothering other tables. Get the margaritas. Anyone will do. They are good. I think everyone at the table was more than satisfied with an order of tacos and a small app. Pork belly is the bomb. I also took a bite of a beef taco with some super spicy sauce. All good. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can go back and sit outside and enjoy the food."

  • "I was a little doubtful about Agua 301 based on some of the previous reviews on Open Table and Yelp. A common thread in those reviews were problems common to new establishments, particularly around spotty service. It appears they've taken those comments to heart and delivered a very nice experience, even on a busy Friday night."

  • "I put Agua 301 up to a daunting challenge: 10 adults and 8 children (mostly infants) needed a place to do dinner on a Saturday night. After booking on OpenTable, I called the restaurant 3 times-- once to change the time of my reservation, and twice to add more people to my party. They were accomodating in every way. They put our group (which swelled to 21 people by the time we dined there) in a private room with doors that closed, which was perfect for our loud and crazy group. Everything went way more smoothly than I could have ever imagined. The food was good too-- I personally had the guac, the ceviche, and carnitas tacos. It was all really good. Scenic, too-- right on the water, cool fountains, altogether great experience!"

  • "I went for brunch and found the atmosphere perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon: bloody Mary, attentive staff, and beautiful view of the waterfront. It wasn't quite warm enough to be outside, but it was sunny enough to want to bask in the light streaming through the windows. Agua 301 got the job done. Drinks and shots by Nahu the bartender were delicious and fun. I found that the staff were able to suggest appropriate food and drink options based on my likes/dislikes, and were quite personable. I got the migas, and later, guacamole for chips. So good! I wasn't surprised to see that toward the end of the afternoon happy hour brings in a solid crowd. This will be a hot spot for years to come with the Nats stadium only a few blocks away."

  • "This is a new restaurant near the Nationals stadium. It is very nice, the staff is friendly and accommodating and it has a nice Mexican menu that is not the run of the mill."

  • "Love this new restaurant in SE on the waterfront. The food was good although the menu is not huge, it has a good range of options. The service was friendly."

  • "I had looked forward to trying Aqua 301. The setting is nice, and will be around Nats games as it is close by. I would say it is promising, but certainly didn't wow me. I certainly wouldn't consider it a value, but neither is it outrageous. Worth a try, and hoping the food picks up a bit."

  • "While the food was eatable, the table service was ill attentive at best. Although our table understood this restaurant newly opened, it was unexcusable to be waiting for 10+ minutes for chips to go with our ordered guacamole that had already arrived. In fact, the waitress had even "forgotten." Perhaps that wait would be more excusable if the restaurant was busy, but it wasn't. And speaking of which, even though we reserved a table for 5, we were stuck at a table for 4 for 15+ minutes into our original reservation. It's too bad we chose this location to celebrate someone's birthday."

  • "Food was very good but nothing out of this world. I wouldn't have minded paying those prices if I had been blown away by the food. Recommend they either lower their prices or make their food better to match the cost."

  • "We were very disappointed. The food combinations were not good. The tacos we ordered were pure fat, the meat was deep fried, and the tortillas were cold. I have never been to any Mexican restaurant were everything I ordered was deep fried! The tuna tostadas were just awful, a tortilla chip topped with pickled vegetables and a shaving of previously frozen tuna. The margaritas descriptions were heavenly, but unfortunately, they were not good ether. How about the tequila pours? I could not justify paying what we paid for the tequila vs the amount that we got. They have such great location and awesome scenic view,I hope that they take advantage of it and make some quick changes!"

  • "This was our second time having lunch at Agua301. Obviously the word is out because the place was busy! Their guacamole is the best this side of Texas and the fish tacos are the stuff of dreams. This jewel-box of a restaurant is such a welcome addition to the neighborhood."

  • "The food was great but if a reputation is to be maintained the level of service must be improved. Your servers will make or brake you as a destination - people in DC , even in the Yards Park neighborhood - have too many choices for where to go for dinner to go back to a place with crappy service regardless of how good the menu !"

  • "This was my second time dining at Agua 301 and it was just as good as my first time. I would highly recommend the Agua Margarita which is excellent. Additionally we had the queso and added in the chorizo which was just decadent. For the main course I had the pork belly tacos which were very rich and the carne asado con kimchi and this was also delcious, but be ready for a little heat in these! As far as dessert goes the apple empanadas were my favorite while the churros were good, but a little bit gooier than I prefer. I can't wait to dine there again when the weather gets nicer!"

  • "Once the new waterfront is done, Agua 301 will be prime real estate. It is a great new addition to SE DC. A rare view of a DC riverfront that is beautiful enough to gaze out the window at. Blood orange margarita is a delight -- a rare DC margarita in which you can taste the tequila and citrus and not sugar syrup. Asada tacos (for me the test of any "taco" place) were spectacular, and served with the required limes, and the guajillo salsa was actually fiery hot. Friendly service, good space, very solid food, and not fussy or overdone. I'll be sad when this place becomes crowded and popular, but it is inevitable!"

  • "I liked everything I had for a Saturday brunch. My friend liked everything except his pork main dish, which he found too tough to enjoy."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The building was still under construction and the location was difficult to find for some people in my party. The view is great from certain seats, but not from others. I went for brunch on a Saturday - there was 1 waiter for the entire restaurant and no one at the hostess podium upon entering so the service was very lacking but that 1 waiter was good so it averaged out to being ok. The food was too salty - both the starter chips and my migas. The drinks were tasty. If I lived within walking distance, I'd probably go back but even though I live close, it wasn't good enough for me to go back."

  • "Went there on a very cold day, and the food was a good warm-me-up. It was lunch, and the weather was not great, so the place was very quiet, but it was a good experience."

  • "I'll definitely go back to see if the restaurant gets better after opening week. It was definitely good by itself. I really like the options of price range (a variety of $7/pair tacos or $18-25 Mexican Nouveau). Flavors were good; food came out warm not hot. Service was meh, not good not bad. One thing I didn't care for is the fact that they didn't automatically bring a kids menu when we showed up with 1- and 3- year old boys."

  • "While the food and ambiance were enjoyable, Agua 301 definitely still has some room for growth: - We waited about 40 minutes for our table (although the hostess was apologetic and appetizers were compensated, it seemed as though the restaurant hasn't yet learned how to properly plan for guests, nor how to use its space efficiently as plenty of tables for two were scattered throughout the somewhat spacious dining room) - We ordered a bottle of wine and waited 10 minutes until a manager eventually came over to tell us that it was sold out and struggled to suggest a comparable bottle I love supporting new restaurants, but will definitely wait a while before attempting to return."

  • "Agua 301 is another great new addition to the neighborhood! The food is great and the service was amazing! Our waitress was incredibly nice and even offered to do separate checks for 9 people. On top of that, she split our shared guacamole appetizers 9 ways for each check! The guacamoles were great and the pork belly tacos were amazing! We weren't so enthused with the street corn casserole side, but the yucca fries were awesome! Lots to choose from on the menu, we will definitely be going back soon to try more dishes."

  • "The location, ambiance, food and beverages are all home runs. We chose to dine in the bar - loved the view and vibe. My wife loves good tequila, so Agua 301's endless assortment of high end choices really fit the bill. She love the tequila she sipped on and I really enjoyed the cucumber margarita the bar tender recommended. I had a pair of really yummy fish tacos and my wife tore through a steak salad. The sides were fresh and also delcious. We'll be back soon - I'm bringing a bunch of coworkers."

  • "The color scheme, decor and water views create a lovely, calming atmosphere. The service was attentive and unhurried. The food was fresh, flavorful, perfectly seasoned and arrived piping hot. The presentation was simple yet presented beautifully on the plate. Best Guacamole we have ever eaten. Churros were crisp on the outside and light as a cloud inside; every drop of the chocolate sauce was eaten. Highly recommend the blood orange Margaritas! An excellent place for brunch and definitely will be back for dinner."

  • "The food and service were mediocre at best. The restaurant has an amazing view and will be great for outdoor happy hours once the weather changes. The restaurant has only been open three weeks I hope that the food and the service catch up."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Agua 301's food, like the menu at its other location, Zest, aims no higher than mediocrity. Apparently the owners are content with providing a bland dining experience where the standard of quality and atmosphere are just a notch above fast food. This business strategy is the norm on the waterfront. Apart from the extraordinary Osteria Morini, Agua 301 falls in with restaurant/bars in that area which appear to believe their menu does not have to provide anything special. Hard to imagine given the exceptional character and quality of restaurants like Red Hen and others which have raised the bar to address the needs of a more discerning & sophisticated audience."
