Diner Reviews
  • "Brunch, lunch, or dinner, Agora is always a safe bet. Great staff, amazing food, and a convenient location."

  • "My group of six loved every bite of what we ordered for the $14.95 lunch special. The taster group of dips for the pita bread was so good I finally grabbed a spoon and finished it off. The entrees, whether meat, chicken or vegetarian, were outstanding. Salad tasty. We even each got a beautiful piece of baklava with the lunch. Agora is a choice we will make again--soon!"

  • "I've been here before for dinner, and the cost for UNLIMITED brunch for 3 people was equivalent to the cost of dinner for 2. Everything served was delicious - the service was incredibly quick for a busy, beautiful Sunday afternoon. Our server was extremely attentive, and made sure our mimosas were always topped off (how many glasses I drank, I will never know). Definite brunch spot, can't wait to come back."

  • "We dropped in after seeing "Hair" at the Keegan Theater on Church Street. Heading for the theater about 7 PM, we'd noticed Agora's outside seating was very crowded, but we were able to get a table for two outside when we arrived about 10:30 PM. We dawdled a bit, so had to be ushered inside to finish our after dinner drinks when midnight arrived. We each ordered a trio of dishes from various sections of the menu and liked everything we got. The small plates left room for very tasty desserts. I wish I'd noticed the retsina among the glasses of wine before I started with a zinfadel, since the turpentine-tasting Greek wine goes so well with homous. We will keep Agora in mind for future visits to the Keegan."

  • "Our table of 4 selected 13 different small plates. We were pleased with them all. And don't skip the Greek desserts and coffee. Their menu also includes an interesting variety of alcoholic mixes. Although we felt the figs did not hold their own against the tequila, we still enjoyed this refreshing mix."

  • "very tasty and varied turkish and greek small plates, every dish as interesting as the one before worth a visit interesting wine list with some different turkish and greek wines quiet enough to have a good conversation, which adds to pleasant atmosphere"

  • "The food was tasty however we had to wait a very long time to get the next dish and the server gave our last dish to someone else by mistake and didn't catch it. Very noisy, difficult to have conversation."

  • "I came here for a first date and fell in love...with the restaurant I mean. Best service I've had since I moved here. I love to hang out at the bar or get a table. Low key and very down to earth staff. Great wine list and the food is delicious. I love the scallops. Definitely a great spot for a girls night/date/happy hour. I always look forward to going to this place."

  • "Restaurant is on a lively street. We sat outdoors. The fried cheese (Hellim) and stuffed grape leaves (Dolmades) were amazing. We didn't love the tuna tartare as much. Overall, great spot, amazing service, and the food is THE BEST!"

  • "We have out of town friends who love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food and can't find it where they live. (His family is Lebanese and food at their house is always fantastic!) They were anxious to try Agora when they were in town and agreed with us it that was among the best they've every had."

  • "I made a reservation online for a group of 5 for bottomless brunch. We ordered small plates off the menu several time (included in the price) and enjoyed frequent refills of our champagne, mimosas or bloody mary's (your choice) Service was good and the atmosphere was boisterous with multiple other large groups enjoying endless alcohol. Great that you can make reservations here - I'll take big groups here agian."

  • "Love love love Agora! Great place for tapas that are authentic Mediterranean and incredibly tasty. Highly recommend!"

  • "The grilled half chicken was so good, even I ate it, and I don't even like chicken. Best Mediterranean I've had in a while. A real Gem of Dupont Circle! Scallops, apricot desert, ottoman rice, garlic sauce, even the pita was good, Yum! My only minus, the Taramasalata was a bit too fishy for me."

  • "Seems like it wants to be a bar more than a restaurant Our server kept interrupting us- to see if we wanted to order more Food was mediocre - both a chicken dish and a scallop dish were overwhelmed by mustard And then the server disappeared when we needed / wanted the check"

  • "I love in the neighborhood and love recommending this place for brunch. $32 for limitless tapas and bottomless drinks is a bargain! And the food never disappoints. The chef is on point with his dishes. He desserts are awesome too."

  • "This is another Richard Sandoval experience. A cuisine that isn't served that many places and a chance to sample as many items on the menu as you choose for a set price. We tried many of the items on the menu and enjoyed most of them. Almost every items was delivered in a timely fashion although a couple items had to be reordered. Tough job for the wait staff and food runners, but overall, they did a very good job. All items were well prepared and tasty. Glad we went."

  • "We were visiting DC for only a week and came here twice because of the great food and fantastic service. Each dish was beautifully prepared with a unique garnish and distinct taste. Of particular note were the octopus and babaganoush and believe it or not even the included bread. Meals are very reasonably priced with some days offering half price wine by the bottle as a further benefit. This place is a true gem."

  • "Agora has great Turkish small plates and a nice patio. Having been to Turkey recently, I was impressed with the authenticity of the food. They've even got Effes!"

  • "If you like Mediterranean cuisine than this is a great place to sample a cross section of delightful small plates of Turkish and Greek flavor. Service is efficient, the food is very well prepared. No tourist crowds, mostly locals. Decor is minimal with mostly bare brick walls but the place is small enough so that one does not mistake it for an old factory. It is in fact quite cozy."

  • "This was my fifth visit to Agora. Each time the food gets better. This time I was treating the daughter of an old friend and she loved it. She had been in the food business supporting herself while she was in college so she knows about good food and good service. This was outstanding. I recommended Agora to my best friend to celebrate his birthday next weekend but unfortunately, we will most likely be choosing another restaurant because of the corkage fee (it has to take place at 4:00 p.m.!) While he would have loved to have picked Agora, it just isn't feasible since he would have to pay over $70 for a corkage fee. He loved the menu and the website and will probably try it some other time in the future."

  • "When traffic made us late for our reservation, the maitre d' ( I think) went out of his way to elp us order and be able to dine before our event . the restaurant was full , but the service could not have been better. We truly appreciated the entire staff's help. and the food was excellent."

  • "I arrived early for my date and sat at the bar. Since I was planning to order a bottle of wine with dinner, which I did, I asked for a glass of water. The female bar tender's body language and facial expression conveyed she was upset I didn't order a drink while waiting to be seated at my table. I explained I had dinner reservations and was waiting for my date. She seemed to forget I asked for water and catered to the other bar patrons. The bar-back eventually gave me a glass of water. This was a disappointing first impression for Agora."

  • "The food was wonderful! The ambiance was spectacular as it seemed like a notable hotspot. However, they need to have a wider selection of wine by the glass. Might go back for restaurant week if they participate or during the World Cup festivities in Dupont Circle."

  • "My husband and I ordered an assortment of 7 hot and cold plates and rice pudding for dessert. Each plate was beautifully presented and uniquely delicious. The taste combinations were original and refreshing. The service was fine but the seating was a bit close. Great value. Highly recommended."

  • "This place does a bottomless brunch really well. The portions are smaller than usual, which is perfect if you want to try a little bit of everything on the menu. The group I went with ordered a few things from each section and we worked our way through the whole menu. They refill your drinks constantly without even asking, which is amazing. All you have to do is blink your eye and it's refilled. Great atmosphere - really cozy and warm. Looks like it would be a great lunch/dinner spot too. Definitely worth a try!"

  • "This is a brunch review only:) This has been a fave brunch spot of mine for the past year. The food is mediterranean served in tapas style portions - great for sharing/trying new things and also you don't feel bloated and stuffed after eating. $33 for unlimited mimosas, bloody's and mixed cocktails and unlimited food for 2 hours. Make reso's on Opentable because there is always a wait on the weekends. They also have outside seating! Turkish coffee isn't on the unlimited menu but is good pick me up. Great vibe, outdoor seating, great neigbourhood, food is tasty and drinks are free flowing - what more could you ask for in the perfect brunch?"

  • "Had an amazing time at AGORA this past weekend for a friend's birthday. We ordered a handful of dishes - the kale, hummus, enginar (filled artichoke bottoms), falafel, salu kofte (lamb and beef meatballs), and the scallops - and all were amazing. They have a lot of gluten and dairy-free meals, and options for vegans (which one of us is). The pita bread was delicious (and bottomless!) and the food came in perfectly-timed rounds. Wine was great, and the ambiance was wonderful. Great exposed brick, good table spacing, and very cozy - love this place."

  • "It was our first time at Agora. The waiter gave us great recommendations. The sizes made it easy to try a wide variety. Will definitely return."

  • "I went to Agora during January Restaurant Week with a group. We were dining in the upper level of the restaurant. The first table we were seated at was a bit drafty. It was right near the double doors to their outdoor patio and the doors weren't fully closed so it was too cold with all that January air. We moved to the other side of dining room against the brick wall. It was warmer but I found the upper level of restaurant in general was cold. My recommendation is to get a table on the first level during the winter months. The food was excellent! Every course was delicious and my fellow diners felt the same about their selections. The service was pretty good as well."

  • "I had decided to reserve a table at Agora for my party of six because several moths earlier, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the completed dining experience at this establishment. The food, service and ambiance combined to make for fun and satisfying evening. I was more than a little surprised when, on this visit, the hostess led us up a flight of stairs to an entirely different dining area which I can only describe as lackluster, devoid of any of the atmosphere that helped drive my decision to introduce my companions to Agora. When I expressed my disappointment to the hostess, her apology rang hollow and she made not the slightest attempt to seat us downstairs. If you decide to Agora, I suggest you confirm seating location in advance."

  • "Had a very good time at Agora, but the service wasn't great. Will definitely come back to give it another shot because the Mimosas were lovely! Decent food, wish there were more vegan options."

  • "This is one of our favorite brunch places for the bottomless food and drink, as well as the energetic atmosphere. Our waiters are always top-notch and the service is incredible with the bussers and many other waitstaff who clear the table, fill your glasses with mimosas or coffee, and serve the food. Love, love, love this place!"

  • "This is my second time at Agora and it did not disappoint. The service was great and my Mimosa glass was always full! Definitely cannot complain. I was a little sad that they no longer put pitchers on the table, but with how prompt the server was, it did not matter!"

  • "The food was amazing we even ordered multiples of some of the dishes bc they were so good. Will definetly be coming back"

  • "I like Agora, but service has gone down dramatically. My reservation was for 1:15, but I was not seated till 30 min later. Then it took them a whole 15 more minutes to even get us water and take our order...and then 10 more to get us our drinks. The brunch deal is amazing, yet the place is clearly understaffed. Then, when we told our server that we would appreciate an extra round of mimosas after 3 pm (end of brunch) because of the series of delays with my reservation, he started arguing back as if we were lying! I even showed him the Open Table email, at which point he went to his computer, only to then tell us we were seated at 1:25. Big lie. He did redeem itself by bringing us some more drinks and apologizing, but how disappointing..."

  • "Went for brunch with is all you can eat/drink for 2 hours. Overall we had a great time and the food was delicious. However, the hostesses left much to be desired. There were 4 of us and we were sat 20 minutes late for our 1 pm reservation. The hostesses also sat a party of 4 before us who arrived 10 minutes after us. The hostesses also came off as very rude and uninterested. Despite this initial negative contact, our server and meal were delicious. The server was very attentive and kept the beverages and food (which was quiet tasty and easily shareable) flowing, even letting us stay an extra half hour past the 2 hour time limit since no one was waiting. Definitely worth going back despite the initial rudeness we encountered."
