Diner Reviews
  • "We were looking for a lively sushi place in Hell's Kitchen and when a friend recommended Ageha we decided to give it a try. It was a big success! Our group of 6 ordered about 10 different things and passed them around the table. The food was innovative and delicious. The décor is beautiful too. We'll definitely be going back soon."

  • "The specialty rolls were outstanding. Ate there during the week for lunch. Very hot and air condition wasn't on right away. Things got better later and maybe dinner would be better choice."

  • "The sushi seemed reasonably fresh, although the pieces were too large. (I know that seems an odd thing to criticize, but the size threw off the balance of the sushi pieces and made them difficult to eat.) Overall, the food was tasty, so I will probably be back."

  • "The service was reasonably good and my husband enjoyed his sushi. Neither of us liked the Roasted Oysters because the panko crust was too heavy and there was also an off taste to the oysters. I don't mean the oysters were not fresh. It had to do with the preparation. I had a Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. I expect tempura to be a lightly battered and quickly cooked dish, but the panko crust was way too heavy and thick. Not our kind of place."

  • "This is a fabulous neighborhood find particularly if you are interested in pre theatre sushi that is creative, fresh and well priced (good sushi is not inexpensive.) and within a short walk to the major Broadway theaters. One member of our group was not a sushi/sashimi eater and ordered the sesame chicken which was very nicely presented and delicious as well. The sushi and sashimi was great, beautifully presented and the portions were very generously sized. The service was excellent and extremely efficient in making sure we did not feel rushed but still cognizant of the fact that we were headed to a show."

  • "We went in for pre- theater dinner about 645 on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. Food was delicious. Fresh, nicely presented. Generous portions. Service could have been better but it was not horrible.... Will go back."

  • "Reasonable delicious sushi. Friendly staff. When we got there they made a comment that they don't really acknowledge open table reservations but would honor ours... Weird .. But we got our table aok. I would highly recommend confirming your appointment."

  • "I set up a reservation via OpenTable and got right in. The service was quick but a little pushy to get us out on a Friday night. However, the food was very good. I shared the spider roll, vegetable roll and chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice was excellent. I would definitely go back here again."

  • "It was quiet, quick and delicious! We thought we made a mistake booking here since there were only a few other people eating, but we were pleasantly surprised by how yummy the rolls were. My favorite of the night: the happy mango. So yummy, and everything was tied together with their green tea. I work at the world wide plaza so I'll definitely be back!"

  • "Needed to plan a group dinner for a friend's birthday. Fit the bill as it was good for groups, within the budget, took reservations and had a spot open when I needed it. Drinks relatively cheap. We were seated right a way. Waitress was attentive, food was as expected, and we were not rushed. If i needed to book a group reservation for sushi, I would def go again. No negative suprises"

  • "We were looking for sushi close to Pier 94 on New Years Eve to have a quick bite and head out for the festivities. Ageha was the perfect spot. Food was very good and fresh, came quickly, good selection. The place is SMALL but fit us without issue even with a very big party already seated. This was exactly what we were looking for for a pre New Years meal with friends."

  • "Ageha is a small place, so it can get a bit noisy. But the sushi is reliably good and reasonably priced. My server was efficient and friendly, but didn't bug or up-sell me on anything. The fish tasted fresh and they had no difficulty getting my order right. I'll go back when I'm next in New York."

  • "Good sushi is hard to find, and this restuarant makes the cut. The food is of high quality, staff friendly and attentive. The restaurant is not loud, and time seems to stand still."

  • "Dinner here was unexpectedly nice. Going here was pretty impulsive and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food and drinks. Service was a little slow, but it wasn't anything that was off-putting. The noise was a little much and we had to lean closely to talk with each other."

  • "Basically an average place that is well-priced & well-situated for theaters. Nothing wrong with it & nothing memorable."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by Ageha. The food, service and ambience were excellent. Three of us chose a Bento Box and there was enough food and the quality was very good. The Miso soup was extremely tasty. I had the Shrimp Tempura and it was nicely prepared, along with the dumplings, and an interesting salad. The server was attentive, but not in the way. The décor was interesting. Even though we live in Staten Island, we're thinking about making this a regular spot. Definitely, when we're in for a show."

  • "Could shift some effort from presentation to fish quality. The sushi and sashimi for two showed up in a very fancy presentation, with a glowing LED light ice sculpture thing, but while some of the fish like the salmon was very good, others like the tuna seemed like they had been stored too cold. While it definitely hadn't "gone bad" and the fish wasn't as mushy as if it had been frozen solid, the texture was still not as firm as I like, so I think it may have been stored too cold. The dessert on the other hand was better than average for a sushi place. We're hoping it was just a bad night for the fish quality and will try it again, because the service, ambience, and desserts are all better than the little sushi place near us."

  • "The restaurant had a lot of variety on the menu - Japanese, Chinese and Korean food. The quality of the food was average. The sushi was not very fresh. The staff was friendly. We told our server we were in a hurry and the food came out very quickly."

  • "pretty good prices for the quality of sushi. waitress was too pushy and asked us, after we had already ordered and gotten our food, if we wanted anything else -- 5 times within half an hour. the restaurant was pretty empty (80% of the place was unfilled), and it seemed like she was pushing us to leave if we didn't order more. not friendly."
