Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent Mexican Food - well prepared and served - Delicious Sangria. Very nice casual dining experience -"

  • "The food here is amazing. Not your typical Mexican fare. Service is great and a very nice outdoor patio!"

  • "Very good food. I had the seafood soup and my husband had the steak. Both were delicious. Service was so so. Started off odd it was like we had 2 or three servers or they couldn't decide whose table it was. once we got our food, the staff disappeared. I had to go up to the bar and get a waitress to give us the dessert menu/get a to go box. Very good food, but not the best service staff. Everyone more than happy to pitch in even if we were not their table."

  • "Was looking for some Mexican food prior to going to a concert at Shoreline. Our party didn't know anything about Agave, so it was a total shot in the dark. We were all very impressed. Food, drink, service, all very good. Not your traditional Mexican food, but more of an eclectic, fusion, contemporary flair. Had dinner right at opening time, so atmosphere was somewhat subdued. Would imagine it to be more energetic later in the evening. Restaurant located on Castro Street which has many good restaurants---this being one of them. "

  • "Made every member of a party of 10 happy. With apps, main and pitchers of margaritas it was $40-50 each, well worth it. Loved sitting outside under the heaters. Can't wait to go back. "

  • "The buffet was great, particularly the pork, which was incredible!! The staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The outdoor patio was lovely and I could have relaxed there all day (-:"

  • "We came here for Mother's Day Brunch, and I must say I was very pleased. Great selection, kid friendly and kind wait staff made it a wonderful morning"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "We were a group of 5. Each one of had a different dish and each one was great. Margaritas were delicious too. Waiter was a lot of fun and even the owner even stopped by to chat. A great night!"

  • "The entrees are reasonably priced, as I had the Salmon viva Mexico; my friend had the same, but vegetarian style with portobello mushroom. We each ordered a margarita, with different tequilas -- both with salt and on the rocks. Both were really nice. This place can get a little noisy as the crowd thickens."

  • "Very disappointing! We had confirmed reservations for a Sunday evening dinner for a group of 7, but the restaurant was closed! We enjoyed delicious Thai food from two doors down instead."

  • "This place has two sections (i.e. combined two shopping spaces for the restaurant). The section with the bar has better ambience: more light, bis TV screens on the walls, etc. This is a good place to watch sports as they have big TV's all over. The food is OK, nothing too great."

  • "...with my daughter-in-law, she chose the venue for her birthday lunch. It was wonderful choice."

  • "The maragaritas were very good. Not too sweet. The fish tacos were the best I have had for some time, White fish battered and fried with cole slaw, black beans and white rice. The carnitas were prepared a little different. The pork was slow roasted and then the portion to be severed was pan fired to add crunch and was served with a sauce that complimented the pork well. I highly recommend dining at this restaurant the next time you visit downtown Mountain View."

  • "Had a great time here with my girlfriends! The food was fabulous, the wait staff was attentive and the prices were reasonable. We'll definitely keep Agave on our 'good places to go' list."
    Dined on 12/11/2013
  • "A friend and I ate on the back patio. Food was delicious, especially the salsa. The margarita menu was intense. I ordered the waiter's recommendation and it was great. Tried a different 'rita for the second round...seriously, two page list of tequila."

  • "We had a good time. Margaritas were great. And the ceviche! Our server was fun and charismatic."

  • "Phenomenal selection of margaritas. Great food... Although I wish they had a Fajita option."

  • "agave is a good spot to check out for mexican cuisine. i've been there 3 times and always had a good experience."

  • "So strange to see such a cavernous place so empty, yet it offers great food right downtown in Mountain View. Flavors are good, spiciness at the right level, and menu offers good selection. Why aren't people flocking here for lunch?"
    Dined on 10/21/2013
  • "Lunch was inexpensive, I had juevos racheros and they were excellent. Two kinds of salsa for the chips. Good service. The coffee was excellent too. Everyone in my party was happy. Good place! The only downside was that the lunch menu was somewhat limited, but next time I will have to try dinner!"

  • "Had dinner on the patio. The service was great (although the bus boy seemed to be in a bad mood, but the waiter more than made up for him). Had the combination plate and everything was delicious. The patio is cute and festive and a great place to have a nice dinner. They brought us our own heat lamp right next to the table which was wonderful. The place was so good I went back for lunch the next day to watch the America's cup. Bartender was fabulous and friendly, food was again delicious. You need to try this place."

  • "A couple of friends and I decided to go to Agave because it had great reviews. The food was great and the their signature jalepeno and guava margareta was good too. What kills my image of this place was the poor service espcially from the hostess."
    Dined on 9/7/2013
  • "Stopped by on a Friday night for dinner. There was an extensive list of Margaritas, tequilas and sangria. A delicious basket of chips and two salsas were brought to the table. I ordered a Margarita, my companion ordered a sangria, both were tasty. I ordered the carne asada tacos with corn tortillas, they were delicious, but a bit light on the toppings, I would have liked to see some salsa, pico de gallo, cheese, perhaps I needed to upgrade to the next taco on the list. My companion got the chicken soup. It was beautiful and fresh tasting. Giant TV screens on the wall did not detract from the décor. I would definitely return."

  • "Handmade tortillas and great food - and soccer on the big screens inside which is a bit incongruous given how good the food is. A great place to eat."

  • "Met three friends there for dinner and drinks. We ordered drinks, waited 25 minutes, then walked up to the bar and asked the nice guy behind the bar where our drinks were. He apologized and immediately made our drinks and brought them to us. The fish tacos were very good, as was the calamari. Given the food is not cheap, the quality was high so made it worth it. But the service was terrible. We then ordered two more rounds of drinks from the barman, as our server had vanished. The barman was great and personally delivered our drinks. We were low key, undemanding customers who expected fair service. Cocktails were lovely and the atmosphere good. Would we go back? Unlikely -- Castro st has a lot of restaurants with great service."
    Dined on 8/13/2013
  • "The service was great. Wait staff knew how to ensure your meal was memorable. If only the food lived up to the service. Don't get me wrong the food was good, just not spectacular. Which meant the food cost seemed high for what you got. They should reduce the food quantities, and raise the quality."
    Dined on 8/10/2013
  • "High end Mexican food. Lots of seafood options. I was most impressed by their courteous and rapid service."
    Dined on 7/26/2013
  • "the service was OK, the drinks are great but the food was mediocre. I will go back to try some other stuff and most likely at dinner...stay tuned :-)"
    Dined on 6/28/2013
  • "It was a very quiet Monday night for Agave and the servers were very friendly and helpful. They gave (good!) advice and opinions when required but were otherwise unobtrusive. The food was above average; in particular the calamari appetizer was excellent."

  • "I went to this place twice last week. First trip was for a business lunch, which gave a great impresssion in regards to the service and food. Which led me to make a reservations for my son's 13th birthday party. I had a total of 11 people for the party. The food was good, no doubt, but you think for 13th birthday party, they would at least provide a small cake or dessert to acknowledge the birthday celebration. My son was really disappointed. I hinted to the server 3 seperate times....and wanted to charge me for a small desert...after spending over $400 dollars that evening. I wouldn't go back there for a special occasion, but maybe for a business lunch."
    Dined on 6/19/2013
  • "This was the first time for the two of us and we had invited two other couples. The guacamole is prepared ahead of time. Most good restaurants have their guacamole made as you order. The food is tasty but would not go back as the service is slow and the chef is not accomodative."
    Dined on 6/13/2013
  • "I dined with a group and we sat in comfy couch seating in the back outdoor patio. We loved the firepits on the tables. The food was excellent and we had a great time."
    Dined on 6/12/2013
  • "I've been going to Fiesta del Mar for ages, and have always enjoyed it. Fiesta del Mar has great food, great service, and great drinks. I hoped for a more upscale version of that at Agave, Fiesta del Mar's sister restaurant, and didn't get it. The food wasn't very good (the chicken was dry, the chorizo flavorless), the service was weird, and the drinks were inexpertly made. I'll stick with Fiesta del Mar."

  • "Went with a small group for a mid week meal. All our dishes were pleasant."
    Dined on 5/22/2013
  • "the food and service was amazing. brought my mom for mothers day brunch and she absolutely loved it. great outdoor patio with plenty of sunlight or they have multiple umbrellas to keep you in the shade. simple menu and very attentive staff. would mos def come back."
    Dined on 5/12/2013
  • "Very good food -- lives up to its tagline about being where Mexican meets CA cuisine -- regular meal-like servings (meat, sauce, vegetables, starch) with a mexican flavor. Far from Tex-Mex. Dining room is cheery and service was excellent the night we were there."
    Dined on 5/13/2013
  • "The brunch at Agave was terrific. They had a buffet that included traditional breakfast food (e.g. scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage) as well as some Mexican dishes (e.g. Cochinita Pibil, Pollo Asado, Carne Asada and Chiliquiles). There were also trays of black beans and rice. All superbly seasoned. Unfortunately, they offer the buffet brunch fo special occasions though they do serve items from the menu."

  • "We really liked the decor. Everything was clean, earth toned, and fit the mood. We'll come back."

  • "The beef churrasco was fantastic! My husband said the mole was superb. We all particularly enjoyed the coconut ice cream for dessert."

  • "Nice place to lunch and good bar - a little above average for lunch. Came here for dinner - it was ok; a little pricey for what was offered. Will recommend for lunch"
