A word from AG Kitchen
"Hi there, it's chef Alex Garcia. In my kitchen there are no borders just fun delicious food made from the best ingredients I can get my oven mits on! As a native Cuban I grew-up appreciating the simple joys of food and conviviality centered around the family table, so here at AG Kitchen you'll find the food I enjoy cooking and eating with my friends and family. It's my take on American and Latin classic comfort food. There's my signature ceviches, and other starters and salads, a collection of burgers done my way, a delicious take on Roasted Chicken served Brazilian style, plus a paella style dish for 1 or more and mix and match surf and turf. It's always a dinner party at A.G. Kitchen.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We visited AG Kitchen for the first time on a Saturday night and were very pleased with the restaurant. I scanned the plates that were being delivered to nearby tables before we ordered, and everything looked (and smelled) great. After visiting with our waiter about favorite dishes, I ordered the Manhattan Latin burger, and my husband ordered fish tacos. Both of us were very pleased with our selections. I chose the Manhattan Latin because it had guacamole on it, and our waiter said they were famous for it. I wasn't disappointed! Had a glass of white sangria to go with my meal, which was very good also. We will definitely be back soon to try some of the other dishes."

  • "I took three teenage girls here before a concert at the Beacon. I at really delicious food while they got burgers and milkshakes. The guacamole was amazing -- very fresh. The girls raved about the shakes and burgers. I had the take 2 with grilled lobster and shrimp and chimichurri. All delicious. The girls had dessert. They went crazy for the Banana Mania. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Great place for a burger and a drink. Service was a little slow but only occasionally, burgers and drinks were great. Overall a very solid 4 out of 5."

  • "We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Wait staff was very friendly, and accommodated our request for quick kitchen turn-around, due to concert tickets. Food was very good, and served in an attractive manner. Would definitely go back again, when the opportunity presents itself."

  • "They have a fun and tasty brunch lunch menu. It is a local place so there are older people and some strollers. The tables can be a bit close, but overall it was a fun dining experience."

  • "I like AG Kitchen. It's close, kinda hip w/decent food. However, food is just ok. Egg white omelet watery and tepid. Quac was exceptional though. Good service. Food just needs an overall lift! We weren't feeling burned by this place, but just so so."

  • "But NOT for dinner. Do not fail to make reservations for brunch or you'll be waiting a long time. Also ask for the patio -- it's much quieter."

  • "First time visit. Great food and service. Will visit again."

  • "Second visit was not too bad but I guess it depends on your server and who is mixing the drinks. I had Moscow Mule which was too limey. It tasted mainly of lime. But like I said, it depends on who is serving you on that day. First time definitely better. Will see what happens on my third visit."

  • "a nice addition to the neighborhood although the menu is rather small and limiting. a good place to have a real conversation at lunchtime is a treat."

  • "We had this place recommended from a blog and as we we're staying in the neighbourhood we decided to give it a try. It was great the service was excellent and the food as well. We tried their guacamole trio, which was perfect for 5 people, extra nachos was brought whwn the first lot was finished. The burgers was the best, juicy and oerfectly cooked. Will definately go here again next time we are in the city."

  • "It's a perfect place to have a burger, etc. before heading to the theater. The staff was friendly and cooperated with our request to get us out in time for our show. Requests for minor substitutions were pleasantly honored. The wait staff was efficient, the food very tasty, and the atmosphere warm and cozy. Will definitely return and try for lunch/brunch."

  • "Have eaten dinner here several times. Food, service hit it out of the park on the first time, and the second time both were uneven, including a waiter who clearly was disinterested and didn't want to be there. Recently went again for brunch. They were wonderful in accommodating a large group with several dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, heart concerns, low carb). The food is flavorful - not out of this world, but the breakfast burrito was delish."

  • "Nice, clean, quiet dining experience! Great service and perfectly located on the Upper West Side. Easily accessible to bus and train. Serves any time of the day until close so diners can have breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour. You have a choice. If you dont want to do one, you can do the other. Lounge is not too large but comfortable; and not overcrowded since patrons also have the option of enjoying their happy hour at the bar. Or for a full meal, dine in the reasonably spaced dining area."

  • "We have been here several times and the food is consistently good. The menu is varied and there are a number of choices for vegetarians, though not many. Service was a bit slow this particular time."

  • "Came for a late lunch with a group of friends and was very pleased with the overall feel of it. Contemporary casual atmosphere where a group can be relaxed and comfortable while enjoying fun but thoughtful food. What a relief to be in a place where the noise level isn't so ridiculous, too! Perfect for catching up with old friends. Mahi mahi, pork tacos, and paella were highlights of the table. Would probably skip the vegetarian burger next time, but the fries were quite tasty. Super nice servers and staff."

  • "I had never been to AG Kitchen before and it had been recommended by several people. I made the reservation (not needed at opening time!) We were the first in and seated. My clients and I sat for 2&1/2 hours and were able to talk and catch up and plan a future project together. Our waiter was nice but stopped checking on us altogether. That was both good and bad, we didn't want to leave, it was very cold out, but.......he really should've just touched base one more time. My food was not hot enough but very good anyway. I would definitely go back"

  • "Guacamole, burgers, paella were delicious. Good drink selection! Went early on a Sat night with friends and our 16 month old - good place to bring kids early, but also nice later without kids!"

  • "In NYC for a few days had nice dinner with friends, started off with amazing guacamole and awful red sangria. Ceviche also outstanding but tacos fair at best. Chicken, paella, and hotdog all delicious. I could eat the chicken daily, it was that good. Also, excellent hot chocolate. Perfect on a cold, snowy night. I will go back."

  • "Treated a group of six to brunch including two youngsters. The service was so friendly, the atmosphere cheery, and the menu just perfect with delightful presentations. Had been here once before early on in their location and didn't particularly care for it but this time it was just right. Will be back for brunch again. And they had crayons and drawing paper and a children's menu, added bonuses for this gathering."

  • "We went here for a New Year's Day Brunch. It was delicious and nicely priced. Two of us had burgers and the other had a breakfast wrap. All delicious. I recommend a reservation - we were seated right at the time of our reservation, ahead of the lines. Great decor, energetic, and real foodie treat for the taste buds. Will be going back to try more dishes!"

  • "I was looking for brunch on New Years Day for a friend and me. There were only a few places recommended on the Upper West Side but AG was one of them. It was excellent. We each had one of their signature milk shakes and loved them. I had the burger with eggs, which was great. The service was very attentive but not overbearing. We did not feel rushed even though it was busy that day. I love Cuban food so it was great to find such a good Cuban restaurant in the neighborhood."

  • "We loved the food...especially the freshly made guacamole! The service was great and who could say no to milkshakes with alcohol?! The Aztec was delicious!"

  • "A good place to go after attending a film at AMC Lincoln Square on W. 68th. Food is good (great burgers, chicken, paella) at reasonable prices. It can be VERY LOUD, however, so can be hard to carry on a conversation especially in the main dining room. And service was unbelievably slow. Took us over an hour to get a turkey burger and chicken after ordering, and side dish ordered by my friend was not delivered. But server was certainly fast about bringing the check!"

  • "My friend and I enjoyed our dinner at AG Kitchen. The waiter was very attentive. The guacamole was excellent. We had burgers and they were very good. The atmosphere is nice. Next time I will try the cuban dishes and special drinks."

  • "I came here with a gift certificate from work. The service was great. The waiter was nice, the manager on duty stopped by our table twice to see if we needed anything. It took a while for our food to arrive, the waiter was apologetic. But the good was great. And the serving size was large! The music was a mix of old and new top 40 songs. The restaurant was cute and clean. From where I was sitting I could see the lounge and basketball game at the bar. Overall good. I will go back!"

  • "My family was in NYC for the Macy's Day Parade. This was the first time * ever * that we had not entertained our families during Thanksgiving. When we were visiting the balloons being inflated on the Upper West Side, we came across AG Kitchen. We decided, on a whim, it would be the place we eat our non-traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. We were all exceptionally pleased with the food (we each ordered something different), the staff (Jennifer was an absolutely wonderful server), and the ambiance. My wife is Cuban, and she told our server that the Cuban sandwich, made on media-noche (sp?) bread was even better than those Cubans she had her entire life, made on Cuban bread, in Tampa, FL. We strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

  • "I had a late lunch with my friend last Saturday at AG. The host was friendly, the space was good, warm atmosphere. There is a restaurant as well as a lounge . The waitress was friendly and accommodating. The food portions were large and the food was good! It felt a little bit like an upscale dinner - but that could have been because it was an odd hour of the day and the place was only at 25% occupancy. I would def go back, just not for a special occasion."
    Dined on 11/23/2013
  • "Great location and pretty good food (nothing special) but the service was so strange. Our waitress was just bizarre and, quite frankly, made us a little uncomfortable because she seemed so uncomfortable. Wasn't always there when we need her and too in our faces when we didn't. Very strange."
