  • "One of the best high tea places in town, great choices and tasty food. Tea selection is awesome too. Some places you won't visit again as the food variety is the same every time, but Urban Tea Murchant changes their menu often. What I like the most is their savory selections so it is a good choice for family celebration with elders too."

  • "My friend and I had the Sakura High Tea, a meal centered around the spring cherry blossom season. It was absolutely beautiful! Service was very attentive and polite. Ambiance was peaceful and beautiful (sun at last!). We went here for an early birthday dinner and our server had a cute little fruit dish arrange for me with the words "happy birthday" scribbled in chocolate. Such a memorable experience!"

  • "I took my mom for Afternoon Tea at The Urban Tea Merchant Downtown for a surprise 60th birthday. Despite the rain, the setting was perfect; corner table, cherry blossom trees in full bloom, quiet people watching... an excellent impression. Our tea selection included Constantine and Napoleon. Lovely. We had a Signature Service and a Sakura Service, both boasted plenty of food in a number of selections. I have a nut allergy and the hostess was gracious enough to verify and alter our meals with the kitchen to ensure a nut-free serving. Nothing on the plate was too over-the-top as far as flavour or texture were concerned which allowed us to really taste each piece. We really enjoyed ourselves and will recommend this spot to others!"

  • "Our waitress was amazing! My cousin and I went in for the Petite Tea Service while vacationing in Vancouver. We love taking pictures of everything. Our waitress noticed and thoughtfully brought us the tin of tea that we selected for picture taking and smelling. She carefully described all of the food and tea served. When we finished, we went into the store area where the gentleman showed us the tea selections. He also helped us get the better deal for our money for the teas we wanted since we live on a student budget. He also continued to help us in suggesting other places to shop in Vancouver since we just wanted to shop. We can't wait for our next trip back here so we can have tea at this splendid spot yet again."

  • "Although it is a lovely tea place I think it's way over priced. Didn't feel that the sandwiches were fresh but rather on the stale side and really no taste. I would not recommend nor go again."

  • "I met with two lady friends for tea service which was at noon so it was really like a lunch. The server was very accommodating with our many questions, in particular my request for dairy-free vegetarian options. Because it is tucked behind the retail shop with tall windows looking into the courtyard off Melville, it didn't feel like we were in the financial district. You pay for the quality tea service and the ambiance which is feminine and classic."

  • "Our greeter became our server and she was very helpful when it came time to select a pot of tea. She was friendly and unassuming, listened to our descriptions of tea we were seeking, and delivered! This place is a hidden oasis in a busy surround."

  • "Even though the price were little bit high, but the food was outstanding. They have more than 200 tea selection. Second pot was free as well. I recommended this place to all my girlfriends."

  • "I expected some mini cakes and pastries on the top tray with February special high tea but we found just fruits and jelly which we were disappointed about. We saw "sweets" on the menu and we were celebrating someone's birthday so we thought it would come with some baked goods. If you could specify what kind of sweets,we could have chosen other one. I'm sure people would come for this place expecting to have at least one baked sweets."

  • "We went to the Urban Tea Merchant on Tuesday for an early lunch. It was a very rainy day and the perfect cup of tea hit the spot. The staff was very friendly and helped with selecting the perfect tea (I particularly enjoyed the Orient Express). The lunch special for this month was perfect. It really hit the spot. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great afternoon tea."

  • "From the moment you enter Urban Tea Merchant to the moment you leave, this place has it all. Entering Urban Tea Merchant is like entering another world. Surrounded by vintage tins of TWG tea, along with a subtle aroma of herbs and leaves, the journey begins. The service is absolutely wonderful, with the waitresses always smiling and ensuring that you understand what the restaurant offers, including their specials. They also have a wide variety of knowledge on each types of tea, which makes your selection a little bit easier. I highly recommend their Earl Grey and Breakfast selections. A sip of it makes you feel like your in Europe. Their High Tea selection is amazing, especially their Lapsang Suchong cone. It's absolutely delicious."

  • "We had the petite and west coast afternoon tea. Love all the food, but the items in the west coast set surpassed my expectation. Everything is nicely plated. They have good varieties of tea for your selection. This place is a must try in Vancouver."

  • "This adorable cafe/tearoom/shop is a pleasant melange of traditional East & West influences as well as funky metropolitan style. The tea selection is first rate and the food is certainly good. Also, the staff was effortlessly friendly or wholly too chipper for a Sunday morning, depending on who you ask :-) Decor is good, music plays at a nice volume but (on my visit) was something quite alien-sounding. It was music that could only be described as Franco-phonic acid jazz. I would definitely be a regular here if I lived in Vancouver--if only because I want to find out what strange, unprecedented music they're playing. I recommend it--have fun!"

  • "Went for my sister's birthday. Lovely room and gracious service - selecting tea is a lengthy process and our server was patient and informative. Food beautifully presented. We found that as a lunch, there were too many sweet and not enough savoury items. Lunar and West coast menus were creative and unique, with some items being wonderful and others a bit odd. My 9 year old nephew, who has a broad palate, liked almost nothing from his petite tea service, which was a shame considering the price. An outing suitable for adults with a sweet tooth and a desire for a special experience. I will not return any time soon."

  • "Service was ok, until it came time to get the bill. We waited for a very long time before eventually having to ask to have our bill brought out. Server didn't return with credit card machine, instead took it to a table of 8, all paying seperte, who arrived and received their bill after the two of us. Food was good. Very small servings and quite expensive. Not somwehere to go if you are very hungry. I should mention that we had the "dine out" meal, so their normal high tea may be different. Servers were knowledgeable about their tea selection, and very willing to bring out any we wanted to smell. It was unfortunate that they didnt have my top two picks. Overall decent experience. Probably won't be back any time soon, however."

  • "Myself and a friend came for the Petit Afternoon Tea Service. There was a great selection of savoury and sweet choices and as I am gluten intolerant, I was very pleased with the choices provided as well. The sandwiches especially the curried chicken and ham pepinade were exceptional. Inviting dining area, attentive service, beautiful presentation, I will definitely be returning to the Urban Tea Merchant."

  • "Came in with my mother for a lunch on weekday. Everything was good, tea, food and service.....up until the plates were cleared. Right after server leaves the bill on the table. Mom kept it near her tea...as we kept talking. Then the server automatically brings the terminal over and opens the check folder standing there. My mom and I were so surprised! Shocked really! Mom scrambles to get her credit card as the server waits. It's obvious we weren't ready to pay. I looked around the whole room...there's lots of empty table so I don't know why she's rushing us out. So we paid and left. It really put a bad taste in our mouth.. Very sad when everything else was good up until the end. I should have said something as I recognize one of the owners."

  • "Urban Tea Merchant is my fav locale for a high tea afternoon with special friends year-round. The Lunar Tea menu is so flavourful with the special occasion savouries. My palate wanted more of the chicken liver paté on a thin crèpe. So creamy, melt in your mouth deliciousness!!!"

  • "1) reserved seating for noon and the sun is directed on your head. They have blinds but only come down to half way which didn't help at all. And the waitress and manager just basically said there's nothing they can do around this time of day and walked away! No apology for the situation at all! 2) not kid-friendly. Booked with special note saying 2 adults + 1 high chair with my contact number. Usually other restaurants we've been to that don't provide high chair or booster would notified us when confirming the table reservation. Here, we have a surprise but they managed to give us two extra cushions for my daughter. 3) no offer on refilled with hot water! For the entire two hours seating out tea pot never got a refill of hot water!"

  • "It had been a while since I last visited the Urban Tea Merchant. No reason other than not enough time to stop by. Being back reminded me that one needs to get one's priorities in order. It was a delight to be back and enjoy a leisurely lunch accompanied with one of their delicious teas. Good food for the soul."

  • "Great food and awesome service. We had the Holiday afternoon tea service. One look at the tier of food we thought that it wasnt enough. It was more then enough, we were so full when we got to the top tier of deserts. we had to take some home. Our server explained the teas and the types of food we were eating. Will be back again!"

  • "It was very pleasant, but a little loud due to a boisterous group at the table next to us. We came for afternoon tea, which is usually a quiet event, UTM can't be blamed for that though."

  • "The service was very friendly, and the food came quickly. I did not like all of the food served but that is because I am a picky eater, but you can tell they only use quality ingredients. The place is like an Asian flare on a traditional British afternoon tea time. Champagne and other alcoholic drinks are also served. There is an endless amount of tea varieties but they are sectioned in the menu to make ti easier to select. I asked for a bold, strong Early Grey and tried the Gentlemen's Ealr Grey, very rich! It was also an excellent place to take my Grandma as the noise level was minimal with just some soft instrumentals playing. Cheers!"

  • "I have been looking forward to visiting the Urban Tea Merchant for over a year, and it did not disappoint. The petite tea portions were satisfying and flavorful, the Lapsang Souchong chicken cone was my favourite, followed by the warm buttery scone with Red Jelly. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable of the TWG brand. It would be nice if the shop offered recipe cards or booklets with purchase to inspire patrons to recreate their experience at home, I am glad that the Urban Tea Merchant has an online presence to tide me over until I can visit again."

  • "Brought my hubby to have his first ever "hightea" experience! He was impressed by how delicious and fresh the food were! Service was great except one little downside that we had about 4 different people coming over to check on us in the span of 10 minutes. We felt that was a bit too much. Either way, we had a great time and we will come back!"

  • "service was slow considering that it wasn't really busy at the time of our visit. the server apologized for this and was very accommodating and helpful. we really love their teas and tried a cocktail infused with tea. it was awesome. we also had a sweet share platter. the server advised that it was a small plate. it had about 6 types of desserts. this was fine with us since we just wanted to sample them. would come back to try other macaron flavours and tea-infused cocktails. and of course, the various TWG teas you can buy which was beautifully displayed at the entrance."
