A word from Afternoon Tea at the Brown Palace
For decades, afternoon tea has been a tradition at The Brown Palace. Set amid the historic grandeur of the newly restored atrium lobby with its serenade of the melodic harp and piano accompaniment, guests revel in the splendor as they escape from the city's bustle. Enjoy such signature items as a pot of properly brewed English tea accompanied by scones served with Devonshire cream and preserves, savory tea sandwiches and a delightful array of classic tea pastries.Continued

  • "We ordered the Darjeeling tea, which was the best black tea I have ever tasted! Tea comes in individual tea pots, and hot water is added as needed. The china is beautiful and the setting is perfect for quiet conversation. An assortment of petite desserts, such as macaroons and cookies are on the top of a three-tiered server. Middle part offers finger sandwiches; delicious scones are on the bottom platter. The scones were a bit crunchy on the outside and had a great bite on the inside. They were buttery and delicious! I didn't care too much for the sandwiches. One had a thin layer of turkey and the bread was on the dry side. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I recommend it highly for anyone who needs a calming, elegant break."

  • "I took my daughter and two daughter-in-laws to afternoon tea and it was delicious. The tiered plates were scones, finger sandwiches and small bite desserts....so definitely lopsided on the sweet and not a substitute for lunch. That said, they offer you another plate of finger sandwiches free of charge if you want to "lay-off" the sweets. Each person gets 3 finger sandwiches. In addition to the tasty treats, The Brown Palace is a beautiful and historic setting to enjoy a lovely hour or two of pampered indulgence."

  • "A great place to gather with out of town friends. Based on others' comments, we asked for a table away from the piano and it was perfect for those of us with over 50 yrs hearing! Food trays were delightful and tasty, teas (of course) were great and surprising, hostesses were present, punctual, gracious and informative."

  • "I've been having afternoon tea at BP since childhood. It's always a lovely experience. My only qualm is that they could use a larger wait staff in order for the servers to be more available and attentive. It can be difficult to find your server when you need something."

  • "This is one of my favorite places to be. It's my summer treat to myself. The tranquil ambience reduces my stress within minutes of being there. I'm treated like royalty, but not in an over the top fussy way. More like this is a special place and now (even briefly) you're part of the magic which is the Brown Palace."

  • "Elegant setting and gracious service for afternoon tea. The food was delicious and appopriate in portion size. I will admit, I am english and a bit of a tea snob. The tea was good, but they kept refilling the pot with hot water. I don't know if this is an American thing or not, but the result is very weak tea so I requested more tea leaves. I requested twice before I got them. It took a little time to get the check as well. However, the overall experience for me, my english mother and my Coloradan friends was great. We would do it again!"

  • "I have been to tea at the Brown Palace Hotel twice now and have not been disappointed. They have a wide variety of teas to choose from, so everyone can find something they enjoy. The scones in particular are delicious! It is a little loud, but you are eating in the elegant lobby of a hotel so every little noise echoes around. It is not so loud that you cannot hear your party. This is perfect for a group of ladies or just two friends getting together."

  • "We were seated immediately for Afternoon Tea. After waiting for about 15 minutes for service, we finally waved a waitress over. I realize they were very busy. I would return because it's such a treat to be downtown at the Brown Palace. We used the Valet parking which is a nice perk, but didn't realize it was $15 besides the tip we gave to the person who parked the car. That's on us - we should have checked on that before we came. I like the idea of reserving Online also. Thank you for asking for this input."

  • "Three different teas of your choice are served with scones, small sandwiches and delicate little desserts. The table is set with white linen and elegant china. A pianist plays while you sip your tea in this historical hotel. Women and girls find this a special treat."

  • "We were seated right next to the piano. MY five year old granddaughter was a bit shy sitting that close, so she changed seats with her mother. The music was lovely, but we could not converse with each other. The gentleman played, Let it Go, from the movie, Frozen, for my granddaughter, which was sweet. She loves the song and can sing it perfectly, on key. Next time we go, I shall ask to be seated as far away from the piano as possible. For an afternoon tea, the music should be soft and in the background, not so loud we can't converse with those at our table."

  • "While the tea and food were outstanding, the service at the Brown Palace was very lack luster. We had a reservation for 3:00 and were not seated until 3:20. Our server was so slow, we did not receive any tea until 3:40. For parties over 5, they only let you choose 3 teas for the table which seems unfair when you have a group of 8. It doesn't make sense that if we had a party of 4 we could each choose our own tea. Also, they were "not able" to do separate checks (which our server didn't tell us about until it was time to pay) nor can they run more than 3 credit cards. Not only was she slow, she failed to mention all of this at the beginning of the tea service which would have avoided the hassle when it was time to pay."

  • "I wanted a special place to take my mom for her birthday. She drove in from out of town with her sister, and my sister. The four of us had a great time at tea. The food was nice, the tea was tasty, the piano player played "Happy Birthday," and the server was wonderful. We enjoyed strolling around the historic Brown Palace after tea."

  • "I took my daughter to tea at the Brown Palace for her fourth birthday. She had the time of her life! Aside from the delicious tea, lovely setting, and professional and attentive service, my daughter was made to feel SO special. I am so happy with our outing to tea, and I feel we will make this at least an annual tradition."

  • "This was my second time at the Brown Palace for Afternoon Tea. Both were great experiences. My girlfriends and I each ordered a different tea so we could all sample each other's. The scones were delicious, buttermilk and sun-dried tomato. The sandwiches were good and our server offered us a second round. The desserts are always my favorite part. It's nice there because we never feel rushed to leave, and the wait staff was attentive with refilling our water glasses and tea pots. This is a great place to take your girlfriends and I would love to take my mom there the next time she comes to town. The only downside was that some of the seats are couches, and that strained my back a little."

  • "I love having afternoon tea at the Brown Place! It is such a wonderful treat. From the soft piano music playing in the background, to the beautifully set tables for tea, to the magnificent ambiance of the Brown Place. No detail was missed. My great grandmother loved tea parties. She would have loved to have tea at the Brown Palace. Every time I go I feel just a little more closer to her. Hopefully she is there with me and enjoying herself just as much as I am. "

  • "Mom really needed an appreciation day so after we hit our favorite spa for a massage, I took her to the Brown Palace for Afternoon Tea. This was something she'd wanted to do for years and I surprised her when we pulled up to the valet out front. First off, I couldn't find a place to park and the concierge texted me when I was a few minutes late to make sure everything was ok. When I told them about my parking dilemma, they said to pull right up to the front and they'd hold our table for us. From the valet, to the wait staff, everyone was so nice. The food was nice and "fancy", but the atmosphere was relaxed. We spend 2 1/2 hours talking and sipping tea while nibbling small, savory and sweet bites. Perfect for a slow, chatty afternoon."

  • "We have a party of five including 2 children. The tea selection is great and includes caffeeine free tea. The pastries include scones, small sandwiches, and dessert. When we were done with all the sandwiches, the server took care to ask if we want a second round on the sandwiches which comes free!"

  • "I took my 12 yr old daughter and her friend to the Brown Palace for a birthday tea. our table wasn't ready but the hostess comp'd our kir royales (both adult and kiddie) which made up for the 30 minute wait. The scones were amazing, the clotted cream delicious, the girls had a great time and I definitely plan on coming back. Even the husband enjoyed himself, though he did fortify his visit with a manhattan from the bar. "

  • "My girls and I have been going to Tea at the Brown Palace for 12 years now, always at least once a year and sometimes more, some times we invite friends. The lobby is lovely, there is always a piano or harp playing in the background. The wait staff is superior. We went the first time when my girls were 8, they loved it so much we have returned every year and we all enjoy it as much now as then. We love 'High Tea', we have been to many places around the country (and Canada) that serve this, the Brown Palace is still our favorite."

  • "The ambiance, the piano playing, the setting and the tea & food were all wonderful but it wouldn't have been so special had it not been for our gracious hostess. She treated us like we were royalty. We so appreciate all who contributed to a great celebration for my niece's high school graduation. We came from California, Ohio and New York to be with her in Denver and The Brown Palace High Tea was elegant and deserving of very high praise on such an important, once in a life time event."
