True elegance is achieved at the St. Julien's Afternoon Tea. You are seated at a white covered table, a pot of tea, and a 3-tier stand full of decadent treats. You are surrounded by a million rich details, a fireplace overlooking a fountain and an unobstructed view of the flatirons. We were also entertained by a 6 time Grammy Award Winning pianist. He played absolutely beautifully. The food was to die for. Our only complaints were that the water was not hot enough to properly brew the tea so we chose to stick with our ice water and our food tower didn't have the traditional cucumber sandwiches. Other than that, we absolutely loved it. Also, you are given the bonus of free parking under the hotel on the weekends.

We attended tea on Sunday, a day when little girls join Moms, Grandmothers and Aunties for tea, they were great. Each individual staff member was nice, attentive (as much as possible), but rushed off their feet. Tea is meant to be a relaxing interlude; the poor staff, was frankly --understaffed, it changed the atmosphere. I was very disappointed that the scones were made the day before, the sandwiches not cut to tea size and the puff pastry was old as well. Again, it seems a staffing issue - a full kitchen staff should have been making the baked goods specific for the day. The items were well thought out, had reasonably good flavor, just exceptionally stale. We won't be attending tea at the St. Julian Hotel again.

The food was just okay. I suggest less preformed pie shells, and add a little fruit. The sandwiches could have included a cucumber and cream cheese. We all could have had less food too. The overall experience was very nice and I will try it again. Thanks,

It's been a tradition of my daughter and I to do an afternoon tea before the hustle and bustle of the school year began. We even continued this as she transitioned into college. However, since graduating college and now married, it seems we haven't kept true to our tradition. Until, of course, we were on a girl's weekend in Boulder, CO and found that the outstanding hotel of the St. Julien offered an afternoon tea. We jumped at the chance! It was impeccable!! From the beautiful mountain view, to the delicious sampling of finger sandwiches and petite fours, as well as wonderful selection of teas - only to be topped off by outstanding service. It was a fabulous must-do activity that we will definitely take advantage again!

Tea had a good flavor, although the waitress never offered to bring us an additional bag of tea or more hot water, so I guess one small pot is all you get. The petit fours were OK, but nothing to write home about. The presentation was mediocre, and some garnishment a were not edible which was odd. The cheesecakes were mushy and had an off-color. I did like the scones. They had a good flavor and were baked just right - not too dry or too moist. Service was OK as well, but not spectacular.

My daughter and I spent our 3rd year celebrating Mother's Day at the St. Julien tea event. It is always lovely; the view, the ambiance, service, piano music, and "tea fare" are all well done. It's a great way for the two of us to catch up and enjoy the day. I just wish they would offer it on the actual Sunday, Mother's Day and target tea that day for the occasion. There was a bridal shower going on when we went, which limited available tables for tea. Currently, they only offer tea on Satuday afternoons so we go the day before Mother's Day.

I took my Grandmother, Mom, and Aunt to the tea to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. It was exquisite! The tea sandwiches, scones and desserts were outstanding. The service exceptional, and the live music (drum, bass, and piano) made the tea very special. My Grandmother kept commenting "this is something I will remember for the rest of my life" We all had a great time. The tea itself was also outstanding!

  • St. Julien Afternoon Tea Review*.

St. Julien Afternoon Tea Review*. Afternoon Tea is one of my favorite things to experience, so I thought why not go with a few of my girlfriends for my birthday! The expectations that I have when going to afternoon tea are quite high (I use to live in LA). I want a high-end kind of feel and experience with a very nice and classy environment. Not an old lady, old house, doily feel. I love going to the Brown Palace for tea, but they are always booked, especially during the holiday season when my birthday happens to be. I searched high and low for a high-end afternoon tea experience and was really disappointed with the selection here in Colorado,-a lot of the old house, doily kinds; sorry just not MY cup of tea -those kinds of places. ;)...

It was a lovely tea and we had a great time. A few critiques: the tea that is served (and I've had it there other times) is really not very good. A tea upgrade is definitely in order (it has little to no taste, regardless of what kind you choose. There are better teas out there beyond Tea Forte). The service was ok -- extremely long lapses in between "check ins" and when we needed things, we had to wait a very long time (and I mean for things like a napkin, to even ask for more hot water, etc.). Our server was very nice, but it would have been nice to see her a little more often....even just milling around the room so we could have gotten her attention. The food was very good (and better than it was my last tea time) and my daughter had fun

The St. Julien has always been a favorite spot. I love the ambiance, the live music, the creative cocktails, the attentive service and the delicious food. This year I decided to have tea in honor of my birthday. What a delicious treat! The annual "Gingerbread Tea" not only benefits a very worthy cause it was also a very festive and delicious way to kick off the holiday season. I felt as though I was treated like a queen in honor of my birthday and the friend dining with me who has many dietary restrictions also had her needs honored in a most delicious and beautiful way. I'll be back again. Maybe a new birthday tradition?

I took my mother to St. Julien's afternoon tea last year and we enjoyed it so much, it was the only thing she requested we do again during her visit this year. We were first to be seated and promptly received our palate cleanser and ordered, but after this it seems we were forgotten for some time. Others were seated, ordered and started receiving their food. We sat there. Finally we received more palate cleanser (I guess they thought we'd just arrived). We did finally get our food and spent the rest of the time waving down waitresses for more water, tea and finally the check. Though not the St. Julien's fault, the two running and screaming children did not enhance our experience. We won't return.

A friend and I attended the special Gingerbread Tea during the Christmas/New Year's holiday season. I had heard that the St. Julien was a lovely hotel and wanted to try the restaurant. But the overrideing factor was that Ralph Sharon and his trio would be providing live music . The restaurant is lovely, the service was very gracious, the music was magical. The food, although tasty and presented beautifully, was a bit disappointing. I understand it was a TEA service but the ratio of sweet to savory was too heavily weighted towards the sweet. And an egg salad on white bread sandwich just didn't cut it. A table set up for children to decorate their own gingerbread cookies was a big hit and deservedly so.

Afternoon Tea at The St. Julien is always a delight. Attending Gingerbread Tea between Thanksgiving and Christmas has become a tradition with my girlfriends, and we always look forward to it. Previously loved this experience but was disappointed. Brought in an out of town guest and had to wait 30 minutes to be served more than water. All the other tables around us had almost completely finished eating by the time we were served. Had requested vegetarian items and was given 1 replacement for the chicken salad but none for the salmon or egg. I would still do it again but it may be a while until I bring a special guest in with me.

I was disappointed with the service. To be fair, at the time of my tea reservation, there was a huge baby shower table and also a birthday party group. However, we sat at an empty table after placing our orders for a long time before water was even poured. We also asked for a substitution (vegetarian option) for one of the sandwiches to be made and instead of substituting it, they just didn't include it (so basically we were two sandwiches short). I've attended tea time before and usually they come around and ask if you want more hot water for more tea, this time they did that as we were paying our check!!! Overall, I come to the St Julien's tea for the elegance and sophistication, this time I was left disappointed.

My daughter and I have wanted to do a 'proper tea' for quite a while now and were finally able to enjoy at the St Julien. We were not disappointed! It's such a special treat that I'd recommend for all girls (and special guys who'd appreciate it). The sandwiches weren't anything extra special but the desserts were awesome. This was certainly an instance where it was about far more than the food and that's where they really got it right.

Afternoon tea at the St. Julien is a nice experience. Our server was great. She was very attentive. The tea we attended may not be typical since it was a "fashion show" event that day. However, I did not feel that there were as many little sandwhiches, etc as I normally get with high teas other places. I would have liked for the staff to have explained the different teas, history, etc about the tea you serve (I'm still not sure what it was). My pot was not refilled often enough with water; the jasmine tea was not as good as other jasmines I have had. As for the show...I've never seen such a short show. Only 6 outfits? And no little girls? There were many Moms and daughters at the tea and not one little girl outfit in the show? I think someone missed the mark there. "Tea" is thought of as a 'girly' experience-'art' gift not appropriate.

Tea at the St. Julien is lovely, but don't go for the food. The room is beautiful, the piano player adds a really nice touch and the service was great. But the tea itself was not very exciting and the food was kinda eh. The sandwiches were all on dry bread an the fillings were lackluster. The scones were like heavy hockey pucks. And the sweets were lacking in imagination and were incredibly sweet. All of them. The sparkling wine was nice and set the mood for our table. However, if you want a great tea for the food, go to the Dushanbe Tea House. But for the ambiance, and a nice afternoon out enjoying the more elegant side of Boulder, Tea at the St. Julien is a great choice.
