Diner Reviews
  • "I booked this restaurant because we were looking for some afghani food in the upper east side. We would frequent the location in Astoria, but when we moved to the city the commute was too much. We loved the food there. And thought we would expect the same for the location in the city. Here are a few issues we had with the place. 1. The prices listed on the open table menu are not the same as when you go and dine in the restaurant. You would expect it to be more expensive since you are in the city, but the these are a little ridiculous. 2. The beef is very dry and bland but the lamb is a good choice. However, for the money, the portions are extremely small."

  • "The Afghan owner was friendly and very welcoming. They made great home made sauces. The food was good and the ambience was pleasant. "

  • "We enjoyed the vegetarian dishes and the fact that the restaurant is a short distance from where we live, makes it a convenient place to enjoy a meal."

  • "The restaurant ambiance is nice but small. Now here is my honest opinion of the food. I tried Afghani food before and I can definitely say that this was no way closer to what the authentic Afghani food is. However, it was good to satisfy the hungry buds. My partner and I both agreed that the meat was very tough to chew and didn't seem it was freshly made. The service was ok. The waiting staff didn't even bother to check with us, not even once, if there was something we needed or to hear our opinion. Hence, a bad service! Many people have exaggerated the reviews for this restaurant or maybe we went here on a wrong time."

  • "This is absolutely my favorite resturant and we have been coming here for years (since I was a child). It's an intimate resturant that I have recommended to so many people of all nationalites and they have loved it every time. You come once you will surely return. The owner is a great man, friendly, accommodating and just an all around hard worker. Our favorites on the menu are sambosa, pumpkin turnovers, and the meat dumplings. Entree favorites is the chicken breast kebab or combo kebab. Don't forget to ask for the extra secret white sauce. Portions are great, FLAVORS are packed in every bite and save room for their Firni dessert. I assure you anyone trying for the first time will love this place!"

  • "Family run restaurant for locals, but not for foodies. Rice was well prepared but the vegetarian items we chose were variable. Cannot comment on the meat dishes. We did not have any of the appetizers or dessert as the restaurant requires each diner to order an entree because it is small. The entrees were enough for us. The service was excellent and the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and was good for conversation though not all the tables were occupied while we were there. Price is certainly reasonable."

  • "Have been eating here for 25 years and always want to come back. Samosas and Bolanee potato or pumpkin are great to start. Chicken kebab is my fave, though lamb kebab, lamb shank and pumpkin entrees are good as well. Love their salad dressing. BYOB is nice as well."

  • "We had a wonderful expereince here. The food was delicious and the service (by the owner) was attentive but not too much so. We ordered three different lamb dishes and had a hard time choosing a favorite! Remember to bring your own wine. We found that a Gewurztraminer paired very well with most of the dishes."

  • "Love to order takeout from here or bring a bottle of wine to share with my wife. This time a friend joined us and the food was delicious as always."

  • "Staff extremely nice, food delicious, and ambience great. It did take a long time to get our food, so bring an extra bottle of wine to open while waiting. Overall, it was great!"

  • "Great food and great service. BYOB aspect is certainly nice. Very quiet spot. Nothing trendy and I wouldn't necessarily go for the atmosphere, but very clean, and the food really is fantastic!"

  • "Perfect for over twenty years. Real food perfectly prepared. BYOB if you want to imbibe, otherwise no worries at this dependable Eastsider, where charcoal still rules in the grilling dept."

  • "I had paid with a prepaid rebate credit card. Next day, I found out that they automatically included 20% gratuity without me knowing or signing for it. The rebate credit card company said it happens. So I ended up paying 35% gratuity, of which 20% of it they did not tell me about when I was signing the bill!!!!"
