This is one of my favorite places in KC. Excellent food with perfect portion size. My husband gets the sausage sampler then we bring the leftovers home and have the with eggs for breakfast. Everything is fresh tasting I always find a new seasonal gem on the menu. I can eat vegetarian if I want to as well. The service can be uneven.

We love this restaurant. Have eaten here numerous times and the food is always beyond outstanding. Makes me wish it was polite to lick the plate... However, during our last visit the wait time for our cocktails, first course and especially our entree was too long. We asked if the kitchen was shorthanded, because the dining room wasn't that full. Our server said said something lame like some customers like to linger over dinner for three hours. We are the lingering type, for sure, but not for that long. I think they could step it up a bit. But as stated in the title of my review, your patience will reward you because the food is truly outstanding. Try the duck with fois gras. Sublime.

Real German food...which sounds scary b/c i used to think German food was gross...but everything i've tried on the menu is amazing. Be bold and try something you never would normally order and you'll be impressed. the mushroom soup is awesome! great atmosphere...knowledgeable servers (Katie is really good), quick service. enough words...go here and try it

This is billed as a German restaurant, but many of the offerings are not German -- so you can go either way. The sausage (pork and turkey cranberry) was so good, we ordered more to take home. Good service and lively place without being noisy. Entrees were delicious and masterfully prepared. One of the better restaurants in downtown KC right now.

First time dining at Affare after hearing from friends that the food was really great. The service was very good and our waiter was well versed on the menu items and able to tell us specifics about every dish. He also made good suggestions based on information from our table about what we hoped to have for our entrees. The service was prompt and non-intrusive. We chose from the more traditional menu as we were looking for German food. Each of us was very happy with our entrees and the autumnal salads we chose. The bratwurst appetizer was fantastic! House made and delicious! The menu was interesting and our party looks forward to dining there again to make other selections and try other parts of the menu.

This was our second visit to Affare and it was even better than the last time. The elk dish was very good as was the ravioli and scallops. The salads were all very good. Affare is definitely one of KC's best restaurants. The atmosphere is usually very energetic, however this time it was relatively quiet due to the Royal's world series game.

Thursday (10-23-14) was my first time in for lunch. We had been in for dinner, brunch, and happy hour many times. Affäre is one of my favorite restaurants in KC. Lunch was not disappointing in the least. I enjoyed the three course prix fixe lunch at $19. It was still rather generous portions, that not over-filling; it was a perfect lunch. Food was delicious, and I always appreciate how each component of a dish is constructed with a flavor profile to bring the whole concept together. I ALWAYS recommend Affäre for a great dinner, now I'll do so for lunch.

We have dined here several times and have never been disappointed. We had lunch, my wife had the whole sauteed trout with roasted potatoes and sauteed argula for $16 a smaller portion was available for $10 and I had the weinerschnizle with Austrian cabbage and dumplings, the curried soup and mine also came with a dessert and I had the chocolate torte with ice cream all for $19, we shared a bottle of a dry Rose wine for $32, I usually don't drink Rose as I always thought it was a sweet wine but this was not and quite good and our server recommended it, good choice

Affaere is a great restaurant. The streetcar construction is causing a lot of disruption, but will ultimately benefit the location. In the meantime, we are making it a point to go there and support the excellent service and food. It's a great place. The management is very cooperative in hosting pre-consert and pre-theater dinners at a very reasonable cost. The homemade bratwurst are by far the best, and in my opinion, the only authentic bratwurst in the city.

Thumbs up on the food and atmosphere at Affare. My strip steak was cooked to perfection. All the entrees were not as hot as they should have been. Service was SLOW on the food and beverages. I will try it again for 2 - 4 people. But our party of 11 seemed to overwhelm them.

Affâre is one of the best restaurants in Kansas City. The trout was delicious and paired with a crisp rosé Rjoha was brilliant. The wait staff is charming and the restaurant just has a nice quiet vibe that even on a decidedly unbusy night it was a perfect place to be. Being in the trendy Crossroads district makes it a great place for lunch (incredibly reasonable 3 course lunch menu - just the right amounts) and for dinner it is very easy to park in the lot out back off Grand.

Sat in the courtyard and had wonderful brunch--try the french toast. also the omelet was done perfectly---the asparagus was done to perfection, you really could enjoy the fresh taste. They did not have decaf iced tea so our waitress made me some from hot tea bag and it was delicious. We usually go for lunch or dinner, but will definitely add brunch. Not your typical German restaurant--very gourmet food.

I joined a friend here for lunch recently and we experienced one of the nicest lunches. We have dined out in the City Market to downtown to Brookside to Plaza area for the last 15 years and have sampled a wide-variety of restaurants. We both agreed this was the absolute best lunch we have ever eaten. We had the three-course lunch and from the salad to entree to dessert we could not stop raving about the food, the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. We will be back and encourage all to try it. It is a winner!

Sometimes food is for sustenance, sometimes food is for pleasure. This was a pleasurable meal. Everything here was for the joy of dining. The pretzel bread came in two varieties, with caraway seeds & with salt, both delicious. A delicious deviled egg dip was served with the bread and house pickles and butternut squash bits, both delicious. The side salad was delightful with a mild dressing. I had the Wiener Schnitzel (veal), along with a side of ButterSpatzele. The schnitzel was very thin, with a crispy breading that was extremely tasty. My wife had veal strips on spatzele with a mushroom cream sauce. My wife was born in Germany, and swears the spatzele was homemade. As we ate, all I could think was "This is a meal to be savored."

The food was great, as always, but the service was poor. It was slow (and the restaurant was not crowded for lunch), and we had to ask for drink refills, sweeetner, dessert menu, etc. We had to ask for things we should have not had to. Not sure what the problem was, otherwise I would have given this a 4 star rating.
