Went into this restaurant with high hopes, it was very modern, clean and we thought it would cater to the younger crowd. When we entered it appeared we were wrong, we were the only people under 50 there..lol. Aside from that, the staff, service and good were all amazing!

I joined a friend here for lunch recently and we experienced one of the nicest lunches. We have dined out in the City Market to downtown to Brookside to Plaza area for the last 15 years and have sampled a wide-variety of restaurants. We both agreed this was the absolute best lunch we have ever eaten. We had the three-course lunch and from the salad to entree to dessert we could not stop raving about the food, the service and the ambiance of the restaurant. We will be back and encourage all to try it. It is a winner!

A great restaurant in Kansas City. The food is always so creative and is delicious. Ample choices. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the food and preparation. Highly organized restaurant making dining a pleasure every time we have visited. Katrin, the spouse of Martin the Chef, is such a delight to visit. She is always there assuring that the guests are well cared for and enjoy their visit. She is quite knowledgeable about wine throughout the world and has assembled a wonderful, yet very affordable, wine list. Excellent.

Sometimes food is for sustenance, sometimes food is for pleasure. This was a pleasurable meal. Everything here was for the joy of dining. The pretzel bread came in two varieties, with caraway seeds & with salt, both delicious. A delicious deviled egg dip was served with the bread and house pickles and butternut squash bits, both delicious. The side salad was delightful with a mild dressing. I had the Wiener Schnitzel (veal), along with a side of ButterSpatzele. The schnitzel was very thin, with a crispy breading that was extremely tasty. My wife had veal strips on spatzele with a mushroom cream sauce. My wife was born in Germany, and swears the spatzele was homemade. As we ate, all I could think was "This is a meal to be savored."

The food was great, as always, but the service was poor. It was slow (and the restaurant was not crowded for lunch), and we had to ask for drink refills, sweeetner, dessert menu, etc. We had to ask for things we should have not had to. Not sure what the problem was, otherwise I would have given this a 4 star rating.

Great food and drinks and great service. This isn't just your standard schnitzel, etc. This is a very modern take on German cuisine, and it is wonderful. But, if you're in the mood for for more traditional fare, they offer that too.

We arrived for an early evening anniversary dinner (5:30 reservation) and were seated promptly. Our server was attentive and helpful in explaining the menu. It was quiet, probably due to the hour and a weekday evening, which enhanced our romantic mood. The artwork displayed added to the ambiance and an enjoyable time. Our orders were taken without delay and delivered piping hot with wonderful presentation. We had time to enjoy a decadent dessert and still get to the theater. A most enjoyable experience.

We had one of the best meals we have every had last Saturday evening. The food was exceptional. We started with a great wine and ordered the Leipziger Alleriei for an appetizer. The vegetable, pretzel dumpling and crawfish dish was like nothing I had ever tasted. The flavor combination was incredible. I would highly recommend this appetizer. We then had Schnitzel and roast pork. Both were cooked to perfection. The wonderful thing about Affare is that the menu is for every taste. I am anxious to try some of the other entrees. Leave room for dessert. The service and attention to detail were beyond expectation. Your wait staff is to be commended. Thank you for a lovely evening. We will definitely return.

Affable, attentive servers. An extensive, Austrian/German themed menu ... with some surprisingly good specials each night. Inspired cocktails and killer homemade pastries and desserts. From a foodie perspective, it's everything you could ever want and more. Lunches used to be outrageously expensive, but now they have conveniently priced $10 lunch specials that can't be beat. Chef Martin knows how to create unique fine dining dishes that you won't find anywhere else. Great place to dazzle a date or a client, that's for sure.

This was our first time at Affare. The lemon risotto with seafood was spectacular! but the serving was rather small. My jagerschnitzel was very good and a hearty serving. The pretzel bread sticks with mustard spread and butternut squash pickles were a lovely touch and very tasty. The deconstructed German chocolate cake was not good, rather dry and definitely not a $14 dessert.

It is very hard finding a German restaurant anywhere in the states and I was so excited when we did in Kansas City! And it was excellent! The restaurant was very modern and had amazing artwork. The food was just as excellent! The veal dish with Spätzle and whiskey brown sauce was terrific! And the portions were just the right amount! One thing you MUST order is the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte! (The Black Forest cake!) It tasted authentic! And being from that part of Germany, I know what I'm talking about!! Enjoy!

I took a client to Affare for lunch. It was a little interesting making our way to the door as there is a lot of construction going on around the venue currently. But once we made it in, everyone commented on how nice the space was. Our waitress, while very friendly, did not explain anything on the menu. Since this is a German restaurant and the food is upscale, we had to wing it when ordering. But I'm glad we did. The lunch items were fabulous, and the pretzel dumpling is to die for. I will visit them again, and hope for a more engaged server.
