Diner Reviews
  • "Adobo cafe is a place for Mexican food well above tacoria quality, yet fairly priced. We had beef pork and shrimp among the three of us and all three were excellent tasting, well prepared and perfectly served. But don't miss the guacamole prepared table side. It's superb. And like all the places in the daVinci group, the service is higher quality than the price indicates."

  • "Must try pineapple margaritas! Table side guacamole was wonderful. Loved our waiter."

  • "Yummy food, good location, nice ambiance. It's a great place to go before Second City. Fave thing on the menu was definitely the margaritas."

  • "Although my wife and I don't do Mexican too often, when we do we almost always go to Adobo in Old Town. No one beats their great guacamole, and prices are very reasonable. We took our son and daughter in law there for her birthday and we all really liked what we ordered. I had the skirt steak and it was great, while my wife had the duck breast, which she said was very tasty. Adobo is great and you can't go wrong."

  • "Excellent service. The staff made us feel welcome! Interior has a beautiful bar, wood floors, and lots of seating. Authentic Mexican cuisine. Outdoor seating is for people watching. Delicious breakfast menu and great drinks."

  • "You will not go wrong choosing this restaurant. The quality of food and service is always top drawer. And the best margaritas... You must have one!"

  • "I have been here in the past and expected a crowd. Came in for dinner before a Second City show. Miguel took care of us well and did a great job of being there when we needed him and being gone when we didn't. The food was delicious and the Margaritas were excellent!"

  • "This was once a great spot but has not aged well the staff is not as good as it use to be"

  • "Sat at the bar when we first arrived but had a really great bartender so stayed at the bar to eat! Was right next to Second City which was great for our next stop."

  • "While the menu goes well beyond the ordinary in Mexican food they also do the classics with a flair. As others have noted, the guacamole is amazing. The service was attentive and quick so is perfect for a pre Second City dinner. "

  • "Love the food here! Adobo Grill never disappoints!"

  • "It was a first date and we dined here before the early show at Second City. We sat outside and had the guacamole (medium...so good!) fish tacos, tilapia entree, margaritas and wine. Our server was friendly and answered all our questions patiently. (One of our diners has dietary restrictions.) Everything was great. It was the last Friday of the month, so Critical Mass http://chicagocriticalmass.org/ rode past us. The energy of everyone on their bikes shouting "Happy Friday!" added to the enjoyment of the evening. "

  • "Food want very good. The guacamole was the exception. Only one option for margaritas and it was lackluster at best. Skip this place and move on. The staff was very good."

  • "Right next door to Second City. Great place for a pre-show meal. Fast attentive service, flavorful food, strong margaritas. Loud. Fun vibe."

  • "I recently went to adobo grill for mother's day and it was great. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. There was 6 adults and 2 children in my group and the staff was very accomodating to our needs. All of us had a very good time and ate some amazing food. "

  • "I've been to Adobo Grill many times. I always enjoy it, whether I'm with one other person, or a few, or a larger group. The Margaritas are fabulous. The guacamole they make by your table, letting you choose the level of spiciness is really great. And personally I recommend the carne asada."

  • "We went here for dinner on cinco de mayo. The atmosphere and food was great! We were entertained by a marachi band too. The service was slow but it was a very busy day so that was to be expected. The staff was very courteous. I would definitely come back!"

  • "Enjoyed the meal experience (flank steak, fish tacos) in the Mariachi music setting. Special menu was available. Guacamole was outstanding. First Margarita round was very good (but not the second round). Service was attentive (but seemed overworked). Would return. "

  • "This place has good ambiance overall. I went on Cinco De Mayo and the place was PACKED. They were quite accommodating when I asked to change my reservation by 15 minutes. However, for being such a small place, it was probably not the best choice to bring in a live mariachi band to perform in the middle of the restaurant. Granted there wasn't anywhere else for them to stand/perform, but it was extremely hard for not only my waiter to hear me (which of course resulted him in bringing me an entree I didn't ask for), but it was also just as difficult for me to hold a conversation with my company. The trumpet was blaring! Food-The guacamole is really good, but other than that, nothing all that special about the food."

  • "Loved the food and the table side made to order guacamole is a must. Nice menu options. too. My date and I shared the quesidillas and carne asada since we were dining before the theatre and did not want to deal with leftovers. The staff was attentive but not overly present. Definitely a new favorite."

  • "Omg the table side guacamole was better than any restaurant I have been to. The steak was perfectly done med rare and lets not get started on the TEQUILA. It is must try for everyone in Chicago. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. My group and I will definitely return."

  • "This was my fourth or fifth visit to Adobo Grill. Obviously, I like the food - great guacamole and an acceptable chile en nogada - but the always acoustically loud ambiance got to me this time to the point that I cannot say that I enjoyed the meal. The restaurant can't be held responsible for the loud, annoying couple at the table next to us, but it's hard surfaces everywhere to the point that one can only conclude that outrageous loud is what the designer was going for. That said, it is impossible to totally ignore really loud people in the Adobo space and I don't wish to have my evening subject to the luck of the draw on neighbors. I doubt that I will go back, great food and service notwithstanding. Other better options are nearby."

  • "Guacamole and margaritas are amazing and the reason I go back. Service is always good and food is ok, but the guacamole and margaritas are awesome."

  • "We dined at Adobo for Easter with 10 family members and it couldn't have been better. Our table was great, food delicious and atmosphere very fun. I would heartily recommend Adobo for a special occasion, or just a fun night out."

  • "Adobo's brunch was delightful. The buffet alone would have been enough for a meal and contained a wide variety of food - excellent freshly made guacamole. The main courses were also good and unique - I would have been happy simply getting the buffet :-) --too much food for me. My husband got the French toast and it was out of the world!!! "

  • "The Easter brunch we went to had great entrees that just about everyone loved. The only complaint was from one person in our group who said their carne asada was way too rare. The eggs benedict I had on sopes were really good. The appetizer buffet was excellent but the desserts were a little too dry for most of us. I highly recommend Adobo if you're in the mood for excellent TexMex/Southwestern cuisine. "

  • "Compared to other Mexican restaurants like Los Nopales, Mixteco, La Maya, etc ... Adobo provided ok food, tolerable but unfriendly service, and expensive and not so great margaritas."

  • "As always, great food and great service! Food is plentiful and I always order too much. The desserts are great!"

  • "What a great place! The ade at your table guacamole was out of this world! The Sangria pitcher was very cool and so tasty! Kyle out server was fabulous!"

  • "We often take out-of-town guest to 2nd City as a Chicago experience and my wife and I took a colleague who was in from London to Adobo and 2nd City on a Sunday night. The valet parking is very convenient and cost's less than the garage attached to the building, although there was only one valet working. With a 7 PM show, we had a 5:30 PM reservation and were promptly seated. We all enjoyed our food 9quacamole, streak, salmon, and enchiladas) was very good, and as noted by other reviewers, the service was good but a bit rushed. Since we were going to the show, we didn't mind the quick service."

  • "Very hectic dining experience. While enjoying our margarita and guacamole and chips (maybe 10 minutes) the bus boy came over to remove our plates and food. We explained that we were still eating and he said our food was coming so he removed the plates anyway. We insisted he leave the chips and guacamole. The food did not arrive for at least another 10 or 15 minutes. We felt very rushed from the moment we arrived until we left. The busboy was always checking our table to see if he could remove our plates while we were still eating. We are not slow eaters!"

  • "We were seated immediately, the food came at just the right time and was delicious, and our service was impeccable. We took our 5 year old and 10 year old and they had a great time, too."

  • "I'm not appear vegetarian, but I'm trying to listen. I'm dobros vegetarian enchiladas were absolutely fantastic. The maid at your table guacamole was also outstanding."

  • "Adobo Grill never disappoints! We came in on a Thursday evening and although the restaurant was relatively full, we were still able to be seated 15 minutes early. Our server was intuitive and knowledgable and every dish we ordered was made to perfection."
