Diner Reviews
  • "The gaucamole alone is a reason to eat here. They make it right at your table fresh. They give you an option of mild, medium or hot. Great food, drinks and atmosphere. We will be back."

  • "This place was fabulous! Great food...especially the tableside guacamole. The food was excellant and the staff was very friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "For our most recent nice shirt date we wanted something that was downtown, nice but not too pricey. Abuelo met all the criteria. We had the Tableside Guacamole which was deliciously amazing! (we ordered it spicy). The Vegetales Tacos which were also delicious - the combination of the vegetables and the goat cheese worked well together. If I were creating this dish at home, I would have added mushrooms. The side order of black beans was bland but edible. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Tamal. The presentation of the cake in the corn husk was well executed. The ice cream and cherries served with it were great but they did not offset the bitterness of the cake. It could have used a milk chocolate center or some type of fruit filling."

  • "Highly dissatisfied. Food was nothing special. Salsa night lacked salsa music. Waiters were rude. Ambiance and crowd sketchy."

  • "We had a fun girls' night out here for our party of eight. Very accommodating when we were running a bit late for our reservations. Wonderful food & service! "

  • "Had a great time. The tableside guacamole was very good. Had the best Chicken Enchiladas... ever."

  • "My wife and I were extremely disappointed with our experience at the Adobo Grill. To start with, our waiter appeared bored and presented an air of allofness. It took forever for him to just take our drink order. The margerita was extremely weak and rather expensive. However, the sangria was excellent; one of the best I ever tasted. With respect tot he food, it was nothing special and extremely overpriced for what you get. One of our meals (pork pibil) was very good, but the tacos and everything else was only average at best. It seems that the Adobo Grill put most of the money, time and effort in the appearance of the restaurant, with little attention to the quality of the food and service."

  • "Ive been here several times and this was the least impressive. Margarita came with salt even though i ordered NO salt. The guacamole was excellent. The Meat dishes were a bit tough and the fish was a really small portion for the price. Id go back for a drink and apps but that's it. "

  • "The guacamole made at your table was wonderful, and available spicy (you can choose-we like it hot and other restaurants don't have it). Also, the best chile relleno in the city since Cafe Sante Fe closed (sob). "

  • "I usually order seafood at restaurants. In the past Adobo's was fresh enough, but last Sunday the trout was borderline in the Trucha al Vapor. "

  • "About once a year my wife and I make the trek downtown to get some of the best guacamole and margaritas in town. Food is great, and service is wonderful. I would not endorse as a good family place but a great restaurant for a date night or group of friends."

  • "I love to go here on a regular basis for lunch. Their table-side prepared guacamole is soooo good and I love the "fish tacos"! "

  • "We made reservations for 5 to celebrate 3 birthdays. We were seated in a private alcove. It was fantastic! Our friends from out of town loved it!"

  • "We have eaten here many times and tried many menu items. The food is fairly priced and excellent. The waitstaff is well organized and efficient. The guacamole is the best in town and delicious. Plus it is close to great entertainment so is handy for pre- and post-show dining."

  • "We went to Adobo Grill for Cinco de Mayo. We had a reservation for 6. We were put in a room upstairs that could not see any of the activities (mariachi band). It took 45 minutes just to get our drinks. The food was mediocre at best and the service was abysmal. Not worth the time or money. "

  • "We decided at the last minute to go out for Cinco de Mayo. Was pleasantly surprised that we could get into Adobo. They had live music that night and a full crowd. Some nice (albeit pricey) specials that included scallops in a huitlacoche sauce. Very tasty and not a commonly found dish in Indianapolis. All-in-all, a great dinner."

  • "The food was very good. My wife is a vegetarian and she had the roasted butternut squash enchilada, and she loved it! We also had the pumpkin crepe with plantains, which was delicious. The prices were reasonable, and the service and ambiance were good as well. A great find in downtown Indy."

  • "We were in a small alcove which was perfect for our large group. Our waiter was super attentive and helpful with the menu. The guacamole was to die for! The food was hot and very authentic and loved by all. The margaritas were delicious and all made naturally with no artificial mixes. All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return. "

  • "Food was terrible -- service was worst I've had in years anywhere. I don't recommend this to anyone. "

  • "I visited this restaurant with a group of friends before the pacers playoff game. Our food was delicious and the atmosphere was quiet against the outside busy streets. I have gluten and corn allergies. This is a challenge for most Mexican style restauranta. The waiter here was understanding and even offered alternatives to wheat or corn chips. I was amazed at the service and appreciated the freedom to eat without worry. "

  • "Adobo Grill better increase the quality of their food and drink offerings while lowering their pricing or they will soon be out of business. $10.00 margaritas that are about 3 ounces will not bring Customers back too soon. Four of us went and ordered 3 entrees, 2 appetizers, and a couple rounds of drinks (2 beers, 2 wines, 5 margaritas) and our bill was $172.00 before tip. That is a bit pricey in any market, especially Indy. We likely won't be back."

  • "South of the border cuisine and a flair for satisfying the big city experience. Many food items you just will not find anywhere else. Preparation at the table of salsa and guacamole is quite different and tasty. If you are looking for the best Tequila selection found east of the Mississippi, this place is a must destination."

  • "We had a superb dining experience at Adobos in downtown Indy. Very attentive staff, tasty food from beginning to desserts! Will definitely return. This is #1 on my list of downtown restaurants and #1 on my list for Mexican cuisine."

  • "Authentic Mexican, priced well, good Margaritas, great tableside guacamole. I'd highly recommend."

  • "This was our second visit to the restaurant. Service was attentive and pleasant. We had a good view of a large screen TV (it being March Madness season, this was a criterion--there are several TVs and almost every table has a view). We ordered guacamole and two appetizers, which was plenty for the two of us for dinner, with drinks. The food was good, and definitely not "ordinary" Mexican-American items. But the real highlight was the table-made guacamole, which was heavenly. I'm sure we'll return."

  • "I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant since we moved downtown one year ago. When the Living Social deal came through on it I thought it would be the perfect reason to try. We sat at our table without drinks or ordering for appoximately 10 minutes before finally, the hostess asked us what we wanted because no one else had. The waiters and waitresses all seemed annoyed and none of them had a smile on their face. The food was average. There are better mexican restaurants in the area. I will not be returning."

  • "The food was delicious here and overall my group enjoyed our experience a lot. However, a member of my group is extremely hard of hearing and when I made the reservation I asked for booth or quiet seating and was told that would be possible. When we arrived, we were seated in the middle of the busiest part of the main room. When we asked to move, we were told all the other seats were taken. I understand the restaurant is busy and good for them, but I would have gone elsewhere if they hadn't told me specifically I could have quieter seating. The member of our group wasn't able to participate in the conversations and since it was a special occasion, this was very disappointing. However, the food and service were really wonderful."

  • "First time at Adobe. Took server 10 min to show up after being sat to get drink order. This is a wed night so not busy at all. Order app which arrives but still no drinks. App Luke warm-flavor ok. Chips were very stale and salsa has almost no flavor. Server came up to take dinner order to which I replied "could we have our drinks first please" he seemed confused by this but eventually we got them. The food arrived again like warm. We both had enchiladas -mine beef, wife had seafood. Both were pretty good but being like warm took away from the overall flavor. Just not a good first impression at Adobe at all. Doubt we'd ever go back honestly."

  • "Love this place. I've been here about 5 times now and have yet to leave and not have had an awesome time. The ambience is great for a weekend dinner with a group or on a date. So upbeat and lively. The staff is great as well. The food is not the typical mainstream Mexican menu, but it is delicious! Very fresh take on upscale Mexican. Ps- their "Hotlips" cocktail is one of the best drinks in town."

  • "Made reservation for 8:15 through Open Table. Arrived 10 minutes early. Hostess indicated it would be a few minutes. Hostess was giving out pagers to people for tables. Was seated around 8:55. Made reservation with Open Table based on availability. If a restaurant is going to give out reservations, than they should honor those reservations in a reasonable time. This restaurant was giving out pagers to guests and seating guests with pagers prior to honoring their reservations. I feel this restaurant should be restricted from using Open Table as they cannot and do not honor their reservations in a timely manner. This was a very bad experience, and would not recommend this restaurant based on their poor reservation policies."

  • "This is our favorite place for great service and fun food choices. The guacamole made at table side is wonderful and the handmade Margarita starts it off well. I can offer no suggestions to improve. Truly a unique place!"

  • "My family and I made reservation at Adobo Grill about 5-6 days in advances, but it made NO difference once we got there. I did receive a call from them confirming my reservation about two days before the actual date, which I thought was very professional, but how things were handled on site, was not done well. With that being said, this was our ONLY issue with this restaurant. Food and service (once seated) was good!"

  • "I like this restaurant; I've been here many times. But this visit failed to impress. Yes, the margaritas and guacamole were great. They're always great. But this visit (a Tuesday night) seemed less together. Service was OK (though the people filling water and clearing plates were on the ball) and food was OK. Our biggest gripe: The cevichazo (3-ceviche appetizer, $18.99) was small. We ordered the ahi tuna, classic, and salmon, expecting we'd get three individual dishes as typically served. They came on a plate with 4 3" indentations, the fourth for crackers, tortilla chips, and banana chips. The salmon with chipotle mayo and pineapple pico came with 2 small slices of salmon; the rest of the indentation was filled with 3 slices of jicama."

  • "I am 57 years old, and to date, this is the best Mexican restaurant that I've ever visited. What makes Adobo the best is this. They do everything well. From the décor, the ambiance, the food and drink, service, etc., etc., etc.. The food was very tasty, however, the guacamole wins "hands down". I never had better. It was a very nice experience for us, and when finished with our meal, we lingered for another 30 minutes. We didn't have any dessert, but we didn't have any room either. The entrees' were not large, but after the guac., chips & salsa, very sufficient. The prices are in line for the overall quality. I frequent the Broad Ripple area, but will certainly make the effort to return to Adobo. A Groupon doesn't hurt."
