Diner Reviews
  • "Great service and awesome food. Definitely recommend the lobster and octopus!"

  • "This is a great spot for a romantic dinner out to celebrate a special occasion. The service was impeccable from the moment we walked in the door. The wine list was extensive. The waiter helped pick out a lovely Portuguese red wine that paired perfectly with the seafood. The special lobster and shrimp with spinach risotto was delicious. The ambience and warm decor make it easy to feel whisked away and enjoy quality time with your spouse."

  • "For those of you who haven't experienced Adega, don't hesitate to give it a try. From the warm welcome at the door to the moment you've finished this experience, you will enjoy every part of your culinary experience. The menu contains great variety with a special emphasis on seafood. Definately at the top of culinary experiences in Toronto at an affordable price point."

  • "Setting was fine and nice but food wise the best part was the bread, oil and olives"

  • "Won't go much into detail but we really had a great experience with the restaurant. Environment and atmosphere are just perfect. Probably the first restaurant where tables are distant enough and you don't get to hear the next table's conversation. Food, for me at least, was great. Only thing I wasn't really impressed was the bread. Seemed generic. One piece of advice: seafood is the right choice for that place! Service was attentive and on the level. Can't say anything bad about it. Maybe food took a little longer to get prepared, but we weren't in a rush, and didn't bother me at all. For desert you might wanna try creme caramel."

  • "Food and service was very good. The restaurant is close to the Mirvish theatre. This is the second time this I have eaten since Christmas both times they were sold out of the special, the last time was at 6 PM on a Friday! Why tell us if you only have one left? In fairness the suggested alternative was very good. I will still go back."

  • "The menu offers a very good selection of entrees at an affordable price. The wait staff are attentive to service and offer knowledgeable choices of wine to accompany the meal. The pre dinner olives and breads is welcomed while deciding on what to order and while awaiting the meal."

  • "We were warmly greeted and our coats were taken. Though our table was quite close to the two others that flanked ours, we still found the seating cozy and comfortable. The food was fantastic; we both opted for the specials; the lobster--1/2 whole lobster--and prawn risotto ($37.50) and the duck breast ($26.50)---portions are generous and prices are a good value for the quality. The complementary bread and olive basket was replenished even before we had completely finished it and our water glasses were never more than half empty before a waiter would refill them; plus the chef provided each diner with a cod fritter amuse bouch. Service is exceptional but not pretentious. We are looking forward to dining as Adega again."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at Adega. It was our first visit, and overall, a great experience. The servers were very attentive. The owner came to our table after dinner and brought us 2 complimentary glasses of port, wishing us a Happy Anniversary. The food was first class and the prices reasonable. We would certainly return"

  • "Had great Portuguese style boullaibaisse, others fine lobster and octopus. Very friendly service, easy to talk"

  • "Good food. They can use a little more spice to jazz up what is good quality food, just a little bland. The Cataplana was full of different seafood and fish, nicely cooked, just the broth was a touch bland. Regardless, this is a great spot for a decent meal with quality food and fair prices. It also is as an excellent choice for a pre-theatre dinner if you are attending a show at the Ed Mirvish Theatre."

  • "Knowledgeable waiter guided our choices for a special birthday dinner. Octopus starter was fabulous, as was cataplana (fish stew), and the poached pear for dessert. We will go back."

  • "We are so glad to have found Adega! It is a perfect restaurant for our before-theatre dining when going to the Mirvish. The service is superb, as is the food! We will definitely return, and have recommended Adega to several friends. All our guests have said how wonderful Adega is."

  • "We thought it might be difficult for us to enjoy our return visit as much as our first perfect meal here. Once again, the services, ambiance and delicious food, were sublime. Asking our server for his, recommendations produced some excellent food and wine choices."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our first weekend away from home without our daughter, and we're so happy we found Adega. The service was impeccable, and the food was excellent. I was tempted to give the food only four stars because my wife's risotto was under seasoned, but since everything else was fantastic (that chorizo...YUM), I'll chalk that up to a simple mistake (we all make them). And considering the quality of the restaurant, the pricing was extremely reasonable. Highly recommended!"

  • "Honest restaurant, that earns your business. Seafood Bisque, and Fish Stew were great. Service was excellent. No problem with recommending this to others."

  • "... and that is something I rarely say about Toronto restaurants. The quality of the food is fabulous. The menu is exhaustive and I am always amazed at the number of additional 'specials' (seasonal, creative, tempting). The portion sizes are very generous and the corn bread is the best in town. The service is understated and elegant from the moment you arrive and throughout the table service. I have been to Adega many times over the past 3 or so years and I am always impressed with the food and service. My friends and family all agree. It is my go-to restaurant for birthday and holiday celebrations, but it is great any time. I will probably never make it through the entire menu, but I'm going to have a great time trying!"

  • "Great, cozy place that feels like home. The waiters are attentive but not cloying and make the dining experience even more enjoyable. The booths are comfy and private and are a great place for a romantic meal. The menu has a nice selection of Portuguese dishes, though I sometimes wish it was more extensive. Having said that, I've enjoyed every meal I've had there."

  • "My seafood risotto was a little bland; it needed a bit more seasoning. Lots and lots of seafood in the dish, however, so that was excellent, and the squid was very tender (far too often it's rubbery). Staff hit just the right note of attentiveness and the wine list included lots of interesting Portugese wines."

  • "My wife and I had a very special dinner with friends to celebrate the holiday season. Through Open Table I had asked for a quiet table or booth that would allow us to enjoy the food and conversation. Adega did not disappoint. Our friends were very impressed with the menu and the chefs choices for the evening. Our waiter and wait staff were very attentive and helpful. When asked to suggest a quality wine in a specific price range our waiter came up with a bottle that was not on the wine list that exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our special dinner and will definitely go back!"

  • "We were in Toronto again and found ourselves staying across the street from Adega. We first found this delightful Portuguese restaurant on OpenTable in 2012, and couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit again while in Toronto. Their wine list offers many options from Portugal and Spain as accompaniments for the cuisine. We both chose seafood dishes from the specialty menu - the grouper, and a seafood risotto - and were happy with both. We enjoyed the biscotti with coffee after dinner, and left very happy. Service is very attentive, as our table was seemingly visited by everyone working the front of the house throughout our stay. If you're near Elm Street in Toronto, definitely make Adega one of your stops."

  • "It's been 25 years since our first meal at Adega. We've eaten at most of the top restaurants in Toronto and feel this restaurant ranks in our top 3 experiences. Service is outstanding and the food is always great."

  • "I found this "gem" through Open Table recommendations. It did not disappoint! The wait staff were friendly & attentive throughout the meal. Ther was just the right amount of time between courses to relax and anticipate the next dish. The food was cooked perfectly - my husband had the grilled calamari & I had the Piri Piri jumbo shrimp - which had just the right amount of heat. The only criticism we have is that the decor is a little dated - but we barely noticed because of the wonderful food & service! We will definitely come back again & again!"

  • "These folks provide a friendly, unpretentious knowledge of their menu and wine list. Their specials, particularly the shellfish dishes, are delicious and consistently so. their inventory of Portuguese red wines can be held in the same regards as any celebrated old world vintages."
